- My personal unboxing, setup, review of the Kobalt Air Compressor.
The compressor is sold seperately from all the other items.
Check out this product at Lowes as well as all the accessories.
Just bought this compressor. So far very quiet, no leaks, and starts every time. I did buy a 12 gauge 25 foot extension from Harbor Freight. Long 16 gauge extensions could be a problem with starts. The compressor amp draw is around 13 amps. You will pop breakers if you run this with other tools on the same 15 amp circuit...ask me how I know.
Haha once I upped my gauge wire I never had problems with no start conditions. Great unit and still use it once in a while
Great video but I hope a lot of people don't try to put their lugs back on their car like you did😲. Very easy to cross thread one really quick. I hope the viewers at least start them by hand first. Was searching for reviews on this compressor and your video was a big help thanks
James B no problem I just threw it right back on to show it would work. Glad it helped though.
Gave me anxiety 🙃😫😬lol
@@TheSqually84 Made me cringe too.
I would recommend using rubber air line as the vinyl hose is a pain
Ill keep that in mind. I have been using my vinyl line for a while with no issues so far especially like to today running it for 8 hours. I might try to find a rubber hose to give it a try. Thank you for advice.
I bought this compressor, in preparation for painting my Goldwing.
There is something not secured on plumbing that causes air to leak out of the box. Still can't find it.
It was able to last long enough to spray all the 37 parts on my bike over 2 days.
Compressor was constantly running, trying to keep up to demand.
In general, it did "O.K." but, I did notice some pressure drop-off.
It is noticeably quieter than my old Craftsman which died just as I was getting ready to paint.
It served my purpose.
I never had a leak out of the box on mine. It could be that you got a dud. But glad it worked the whole time for you. It is gonna run a lot as paint takes a little more demand than it can handle but I mean if it works then it was worth it.
How about removing wheel bearing nut?
It removed it off our 63 c10 which had been on for years.
I was trying to get this Compressor to turn on after the first filling but it didn't work.
It seems like the air pressure doesn't let motor start, if drain all the air it start again.
What I noticed once I got a thicker gauge wire it worked everytime.
Thank you for the tip, i will try that 👍
@@miguelangelcuayahuitl4886 I hope it works for you!
My experience using impact wrenches, it is always better to hand start lug nuts or other nuts and bolts. Then spin them on and tighten with the impact. It is to easy to cross thread a fastener with the impact and then you have more problems. That Kobalt compressor seems very quiet. It would be comfortable to work around unlike my old stationary one. Thanks for the review.
I only ripped them on for the video like that to show the gun off but I appreciate the comment. I usually hand start it then do it. Especially gotta watch out doing that with the F150 lugs cause they are trash. Haha. And it is pretty quiet in comparison to some other ones.
Several people reviewed this model and noted that the stock regulator has a large drop on the regulated gauge when in use and ended up putting in a different regulator, bypassing the stock one completely. Have you noticed a large, instantaneous (regulated) pressure drop when triggering a tool? Others have suggested also swapping out the connectors to hgh flow connectors to help alleviate the pressure drop.
I have not seen that at all.
I'm late to the party! Around 7:08 when using grandpas gun you can hear it. Listen to the RPM's fall over a few seconds. That is MAJOR pressure drop. Look at your regulator reading and compare it to the tanks. Most those (nearly all) of those factory regulators drop around 40psi around 90psi tank pressure. My Earthquake XT impact took my 29 gallon McGraw down to 50psi post regulator!!! PATHETIC.
Maybe that's a way too keep tool runtime up, it's throttled for air. Anyways, went back to HF and bought a $50 3/8 regulator. Same situation and now with only 4-5psi drop no matter the demand.
TLDR: Stock regulators suck and I can hear how bad in this video. It's a cheap and easy fix!
Also, please god use a torque wrench to finish the lugs. Even the cheapest torque wrench is better than none.
If unboxed could i fit in a sedan back seat or trunk ;)
I think you could especially if you put the back seat down.
This was the exact review I needed to see. Thank you!
No problem and good luck with it. I bought a 10 gauge extension cord for it too which helps performance
Man I'm telling you finally bought and used it today and this thing rips! Easy to use and it looks really good chillin! 😁
SAVAGE WARRIORZZ awesome man. Well worth it. Easy to use. Helps a lot on projects and love the fact that it is portable
Man im not a hater but there a few things wrong here. First you dont use a cord, some will work and some not but bottom line is you do not use a cord with any air compressor, and about the break in? No break in?
No worries but I don’t have the ability to plug into a socket since my current garage does not have power to it so I have to run a cord. I did upgrade my cord to a better gauge. And I did screw up with no break in and I admit that.
Thank you and I appreciate the comment.
How do you break it in?
Watched your video and went out and bought one. Love it. Great video.
Hey thanks I appreciate it. I love mine. I suggest the 10 Gauge wire. It got rid of the fail to start up when the tank got low on occasion
After a year how is it holding up . Im looking at a Husky 20 gallon or the Kobalt 26 gallon . I have a 20 year old 15 gallon 5 cfm 3hp Craftsman I did turn it down from 150 psi to 125 a week after I got it . my air tools run on 90 to 100 psi or 30 psi I see no reason to have a 150 or 200 psi tank it is extra wear tear on the motor and piston. I work on cars trucks tractors & motorcycles . Use my air about 2 times a week or more . I see Both fittings run off the Regulator on the Kobalt 26 gallon Im sure the Husky is the same way .
It still works awesome. I’ve had no issues so far. My parents have the same one and use it too and had no issues. I recommend the thicker power extension cord and that’s it.
@@RESTORATIONRESCUE I have a 10 ga cord I use on my 15 gallon when I take it to jobs or use my gen to run it . are both are outlets on the regulator ? or is it just the left on it .
@@JCcanU I have my plugged it all the time but off. And those should work great. And I have them out a normal outlet too.
The restart issue you are having is due to the size of your extension cord for sure hooked mine to a 10 gauge extension cord and solved all problems.
I will definitely look into getting one. I Have to run power to my garage as well so I can get more power towards the garage. Thank you bud.
William Bruch thanks again, just got a 10 gauge extension cord and immediately worked with recharging it went low. I appreciate it.
So many people by the 16 gauge cords for shop tools and really feel they should stop making them as too many people grab them and over load them.
They are very nice I have one use it every day
Melissa Parker I love it and have had no issues at all still.
You know, UA-cam should really do away with the thumbs down button. I really appreciate you taking the time out to do this video. I need a compressor and that looks like it would fit nicely in my garage. 👍
I appreciate it. And if someone wants to dislike it, it just gives me motivation to do better.
I’m not paid to review anything I’ve reviewed or given items so you actually get an honest review.
I love messager mine
Great video! Question, the connection on the compressor is 1/4" right? But the hose you used is 3/8". Did you use an adapter? Sorry complete noob here.
To be honest I never looked. I just had what was given to me.
@@RESTORATIONRESCUE oh ok thanks for the quick reply. Just got the same compressor and trying to get it setup.
@@BDB0307 I recommend the 10 gauge wire other people did. It really helps.
Does your tank stay at 150? Mine stops at 145 then drops and settles on 140. Is this normal?
Mine I keep around 140 just so I got over pressurize it. But I would look at the fitting on the bottom and see if it’s leaking.
@@RESTORATIONRESCUE thank you so much for responding! Two questions, we can control how much psi the tank can pump to? And so 140 is fine you say?
@@jettguerrero1737 the center thing can say how much you want I think. I actually haven’t gotten into my garage in a while. But 140 is fine
When air is compressed it is heated and pressure rises, as it cools after the compressor shuts off the pressure will drop. This is normal.
Great video, good review, "loved it" the only thing I gotta say is most compressor companies don't recomend using an extension cord. I understand that is guy is using one cause he doesn't have power in his shop.
Ronald Poret yeah I wish I had the power to a garage but I just got a bigger gauge one so it works a lot better. Appreciate it bud.
Yeo, I have this compressor and when he turned it on I noticed the engine struggle on startup. The compressor should not only be plugged directly into the wall outlet, but also on it's own dedicated circut. Using the extention cord also would cause the motor to overheat causing his restart issue.
I just got one, suuper quite. More quiet than my pancake Porter Cable compressor
Definitely loving mine. Especially since a lot of my work is done in the middle of the night.
I work 7pm to 7am usually so it’s sometimes hard to be in the garage during the day on days off. Makes this really convenient so my neighbors don’t hate me.
I bought 1 for my birthday!!! I was going to make a video about this aswell hahaha
Check me out on Focused Hands
6:40 does that impact wrench have a ft pounds setting? how do you set the correct ft pounds using that?
John Miller there is a dial on the wrench on the back where the selector switch is for forward and reverse.
Did you do the 30 minute break in ?
Thomas Griffin No I didn’t.
Chris Keane why not ?
Thomas Griffin didn’t think of it. Still runs well anyway. I mean I let it fill a few times and barely used at first.
I bought one yesterday. Does not say in the Manuel to do so . All other ones I ever owned told you to do so . I did run my Kobalt for 30 minutes anyway.
Always hand thread before you use power tools on a nut
Jon E appreciate it. I will keep that in mind in the future. Thank you.
Sounds like you need to adjust the regulator. Your tools are running out of pressure pretty fast.
To adjust run the air tool wide open then adjust the regulator pressure to 90psi. Done!
AircraftMechanic I will give that a try. Thank you.
have you tried it with a blasting cabinet? does it work well?
Larry I have not. I need to get one and try it out.
That is a sad, sad, sounding air gun. Not sure what your pressure is regulated to or if you have issues with low flow fittings but something isn't right. That air gun should scream
I think my issue was the cord. It sounds better.
