@@mamadebbeauty4118sigma has really nice smaller brushes. Not affordable exactly at full price, but they have great sales often. Also I've heard Jen Phelps & Emily Noel say profusion has really nice smaller eye brushes.
I find Washing brushes kinda soothing and satisfying,like a self care step.

After collecting for about eight years, I finally decluttered this past summer and donated almost 100 brushes (and a box full of gently-used makeup) to my kids’ high school’s drama department. It felt soooo good to clear out clutter and still put it to good use.
Wow - I think this just shows how easy it is for a beauty content creator to get overwhelmed and just collect things because they come in PR.
What a fantastic declutter Sam! It'll be much easier to see and use what you love now - and clean them because you don't have ten back-ups!
Samantha, as a makeup content creator, keeping only 72 brushes is amazing!! Incredible job. I don’t know if I could have done it. I am one person, not a content creator, and I know I have 50 brushes, easily. 😮
Every time a Rephr brush was decluttered my heart hurt lol. I’ve always wanted to try those but I totally understand why you want to downsize your collection! Great job! Hope your move isn’t too difficult. So sorry you had to move.
For me, it was Sonia G. If she would have decluttered a Wayne Goss brush, that would have pushed me over the edge. 😂

I like brush declutters! The only thing is that it's more helpful when you group them by function and then declutter based on that, e.g. keep only 3 angled blush brushes, flat kabuki, etc. That way we can track preferences easier and you can also $$ link your top favs easier.
Is it stressful for anyone else (not real stress, just being funny) to see someone declutter your face brushes? I’m like “bruh that one is so goooood!”
Yes. Seeing E25's and E40's being tossed had me like nooo... its such a loss they're sooo good.

Wow, so many brushes. I think I would have separated by brand and then kept my favorite two sets and any individual brushes that were unique in some way. I don't have many face brushes.

I’m so happy you did the brush declutter! If you ever do it again in the future I feel like you could organize them by category because it’s not as overwhelming as this one 😂 you did an amazing job!
I love brushes and enjoy brush declutters. You are correct in dwindling down the collection so that you are forced to clean them. I have a “regular rotation” that should be cleaned every week (I’m okay at it) but I also have a back up set if everything is dirty or drying. I also prefer to travel with my back ups
I have literally less than 15 brushes but you've inspired me to clean them and maybe declutter a few

A smaller brush collection has really helped me keep up on cleaning them. That and I discovered that not resuing dirty makeup brushes is more sanitary and helps your makeup last longer before it expires. And, really it's better for your skin because its... more sanitary.

Kelly Gooch did a brush declutter not too long ago-I love them! I think brushes was the aspect of makeup that I spent the most time being confused about-I love seeing what people’s opinions are with their favorites and why.
This is the declutter I've been waiting for! I love makeup brushes and it's fun seeing how many and what kind you have. I didn't see any Hourglass brushes. They are one of my favorites!
You need the Sephora brand daily brush cleaner STAT! Patty Alonzo turned me onto it a couple of years ago and it’s so easy to use as you’re finished with each brush. Then you only need to wash your brushes with water and cleanser once a month (or longer if it’s a brush that you don’t use frequently and is only used with powder products).
I love brush declutters because it helps me see where I should invest vs save with my brush collection!
for the future I think if u organized them by the category whether that’s face and eye brushes or more in depth like blush brushes, bronzer, cream product brushes, eye brushes, etc which can be harder since a lot of face brushes can be used for multiple things but even going by brands that way u aren’t just digging through a big pile and can just make smaller piles of brushes
From a one brush addict to another... this is extremely satisfying 😊

I have e.l.f, Real Technique, ULTA, Morphe & Japoneque brush sets - that's it! I rotate them monthly. Who's buying new instead of just cleaning what they already have?! 😮
I am slowly decluttering brushes, too. I was in the stage of collecting all these brushes from various brands. What I like about Real Techniques is that they are sold at places like Walmart and Target. They really hold up through the years, too.
I have had some of my RT brushes for YEARS. Like when I first got into beauty UA-cam which was like 2017- and they’re still going strong. Which is a blessing and a curse because obviously quality and $$ effective BUTTT now that I’m more selective with my collection (sort of lol better than the start) I’d love to begin investing in a few luxury and prestige brushes I’ve seen raved about forever but I can’t justify it! I could go for 2-3 to try and discover new shapes except what I have works perfectly I don’t need a single new brush. Arggggg…😂😂
I’m always decluttering and giving to my nieces but brushes are to let go of! Lol. I cut mine in half but I do end up using the same brushes all the time!

I’m currently saving up for new brushes after many years of the same few brushes because i don't like how some of them feel during application anymore or how some apply products anymore, so its good to see the ones thatreorth keeping for you 😀
All the bdellium tools brushes are still available, some of my faves, rephr are my no1 but my collection is not yet complete so I was crying when you were decluttering so many. But good for you, it will make your life so so much simpler. I haven't decluttered mine in 2 or 3 years so I'm kinda due 😊 although, I do have half my collection that I use daily, the other half isn't just emergency backup 😅. Again, you were much stronger than I would be. I hope you get settled in your new home quickly. 😘💖😘💖😘💖😘💖😘💖
I’m so jealous of your brush collection!! I love brushes but I’ve found that the less I have the easier it is to force myself to clean them weekly. But I’m always on the lookout for the perfect blush and bronzer brush!!

3 and 10 is kind of the magic number for me. I have 3 of almost every brush but my flat liner brushes. I have about 10 of those. I keep about 3 of each of my face brushes though.
When you’re stuck organizing & decluttering, just stick to one system! Biggest to smallest, or left to right, or go by color, whatever seems easiest to you!
I wound up just deciding what brushes I needed and buying them all from one brand (Luxie-via Poshmark lol) so they are a cohesive set, and honestly I haven’t missed any of my others!

I love makeup brushes and find this very interesting. I see a lot that I have and some that I want to get, as well as some that are discontinued that I wish I had gotten. An easy way to clean them is just swishing in a bar of soap. Cheap and easy.
I pick a full set and use it for 2 weeks😬 when I switch them out I put all the dirties in a basket. Once the basket is full (typically 4 rotations or 2 months) I wash….takes 2-3 hrs. It’s wild!!!

To me, watching this type of video is informative. It helps me understand what you like in terms of brushes and why and it helps me see what recommendations might work for me and not. I love to see how different we can all be. The difference in what we enjoy and how we use our tools si so interesting. I saw you decluttering things and I was like: NOOOOOOO KEEP IT! But you know... Based on how I do my makeup, which is dumb because you don't experience it in the same way 🤪 Also, with the amount of brushes you collected, no wonder one of your emojis is a brush 😄
Those brushes that “paint on foundation” are awesome for painting on face mask products!

Before watching: 😍😍😍 Yesssss, my preciousssss! 🤣 I put in my guess as 500+. I personally just have a few black Elfs, a few Rephrs, and like one random. And of course ABH with the palettes.
Hope you are ok after parting with so many brushes, I love brushes, I do pass them on to my 6 granddaughters who love them. I love to clean brushes so I do them for my daughter-in-law as well 😂😂😂😂 I find it relaxing ( it’s finding time that’s the problem) xxx

I can’t even guess how many. I’m someone that has to fight having too many brushes. I have really nice brushes that will last forever, but I’m always tempted by new sets and shapes.
P.S. I loved this declutter. First brush declutter I’ve seen. You did great! You have to keep multiples of favorites so you don’t have to clean them as often.
I did a giant declutter, I've tried so many times to get rid of some for so long. This was my method, first I sorted by brand, then by type & duplicate brushes in brand, then I sorted out the ones that I never use they went bye bye. I had 3 bins of brushes, I never counted, I'm down to one bin, and then the brushes I keep on my vanity. I'm still overloaded!

Sam, this was so much fun to watch! But, you decluttered the beloved F80? I’m clutching my pearls. 😂 I had a Stilazzi blush palette a long time ago. I only have 1 natural hair brush, I really need to invest in some good ones. I’m not sure if I should get Sonia G or another brand. I only like the Samatha Ravendall angled blush brush, I don’t like many other angled brushes. Isn’t it so weird yet cool how we all like different things. It’s so good to hear that you are moved! Remember my advice about a Front door Ring camera AND a stick Ring camera. It’s so worth it! ❤
