    I put that royal purple in 11 years ago and haul 48 states without a change. 300,thousand miles and going to change it this week.

    I live up north and my G56 wouldn’t even shift when it got cold. Then I went with Amsoil ATF and have never looked back. I thought it was all BS but that is all I use now. I pull a heavy camper year-round and am still on the original clutch so I’ll just keep on keeping on. Thanks for posting, these vidz are always fun to watch.

    You might want to look into a TDS PTO cover for your G56. Makes adding the extra quart so much easier. He only sells them on eBay...I know, I know eBay is not the place to get truck parts, but it actually works and is a nice piece made from billet aluminum. Keep the vids up. I enjoy watching em.

      Jason D thanks for the info! I actually already have that on the truck. Added the tds shortly after this video. Also have fast coolers I’ll be adding this week! And I order a lot of stuff from eBay hah but thank you and thanks for watching!

    What weight of oil did you use when using the Royal Purple? I looked through the comments but didn’t see exact weight specified. Thanks!

    I have a 2008 Ram with the g56. My plans are to get into hotshot trucking but there’s so much debate about what weight of transmission fluid to use. I’m just trying to figure out what’s a good middle ground oil to use. I’m based out of South Texas where it’s Summer all year around and temperatures usually rise up to 118 degrees so I figured that going the 75w-90 route wouldn’t be much of a problem however I don’t know if it’ll be a problem in the northern states in the winter. Also anyone know the weight specification of the royal purple he is using??

    What is the red button on the shifter... OD unit? I'm looking at gear vendors but want to talk to someone that has one first. Have the TDS cover as well. With the bagged oil it works pretty well to fill.

    That’s normal when you bog a dd down they all do that just the noise the floater plate makes when it’s trying to keep up with the rpms

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  4 роки тому +1

      My nv5600 truck with same clutch does not do that. Only g56 makes that noise. I have a g56 12 valve with a single disk and makes that noise. Reason why they went with dual mass flywheel for g56. The floating disk only makes noise when clutch is released.

    I'm a firm believer to not put down other products if you haven't truly used them . For the first 4 years owning my 06 g56 truck I just used mopar atf+4 , one year ago I switched to redline MT90 and my god it sounds different, pretty quiet , I have a large 5 inch aluminum one piece driveshaft and honestly think most of my noise is coming from that and not my transmission. Not saying that redline mt 90 oil is the be all end all , but it seemed to make a difference in my transmission

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  6 років тому

      Mitch Fearey getting nice smooth shifts out of it! I had heard about redline before swapping and going royal purple. But nobody talked up redline you’re. So next time I need to change trans fluid I will try the redline. See how it works. Heard good things about royal purple from another UA-camr but I’ll try redline. Thanks for the info

    I ran mobile delvac in my 08 g56 for a while and it cleared up the noise alot, just recently I switched to amsoil mtg 75w-90 oil and the noise is probably close to half of what it was with the delvac 50. Unloaded there's hardly any noise even in 5th under 1500 rpm where mine seemed to always be the worst

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  6 років тому

      Sledhead 600 I think most of my Noise is third. Gear low rpms. My nv5600 never really makes much noise. But the g56 shifts way nicer. I switched to Amsoil in the nv5600 and made shifting a little easier. I’ll keep that amsoil in mind for my next oil change on this one. Thanks!
      You running extra quart in yours?

    • @andybetz326
      @andybetz326 6 років тому

      I put about 1500 miles on the amsoil so far and I would say it seems to shift a little better, but I've also always thought the g56 shifted pretty good anyway. Yes I've ran one extra quart with both the delvac and the amsoil so far.

    What clutch are you running and how does it do backing up and starting off? I have the stock clutch and I'm looking at putting more power to it.

    • @VBELTandSON

      South bend dual disk. Holds the power and feels just stiffer than a single disk. Drive ability is normal

      V-BELT and SON I’m using 15w-40 synthetic signature series, signature series atf fluid for the transmission and transfer case, and 75w-90 severe duty synthetic for the front and rear diff 👌

    The camera doesn’t pick up the noise. What is the noise you hear called? I think I know the noise you are talking about but not sure what to call it.

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  6 років тому

      B&K Excavating LLC it’s like a torque whine that I’m hearing when I’m pulling at a low rpm. But it did clean in up a little bit.

      V-BELT Logging The reason I ask is because my truck makes a sound I believe to be the same type of sound. I’ve only ever heard this sound in manual transmissions. Mine however is a Aisin AS69RC but I have a Chelsea PTO pump attached to the side to operate my dump. From the day I bought it new that pump has always made this sound when lugging the engine between 1,700-2,100 RPM. I’ve tried to find out why but no one understands the sound that I try to explain over emails. My mechanic said it might be the gear lash is incorrect but he saw no damage being done from it and the transmission oil doesn’t have metal in it so I’ve just ran it like this. It’s 4 years old with 80,000 miles no problems yet. I swapped to Amsoil transmission fluid at 15,000 miles and it didn’t change anything

      G56 is common to get a 'gear rollover' noise when replacing the Dual-Mass flywheel. My G56 got horrendous when swapping to a Valair DD clutch set and single mass flywheel.

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  6 років тому +1

      Geriatric Ginger yea I’ve owned several g56 trucks and when swapped to a dual disk it got louder. Dual disk on its on for some reason makes more noise. Miss how quiet the stock clutch set up was but stock doesn’t hold much power:(

    Don’t be hatin on my NV lol mine’s been good to me so far other than getting difficult to shift once it got hot. After the Royal Purple change, overfill, and pto cover coolers, it’s been great all the way up until yesterday..... it randomly started being a pain in the ass the get into 1st through 3rd. Kinda scratching my head as to why?????? Clutch is a dual disc Valair that has about 16,000 on it. I’m thinking the slave cylinder just decided to pack it’s bags and head south or the shift tower has various parts that could be bad. May get one, or the other, or both and see if it’s fixed. Even more odd is that it’s not consistent. For random periods of times it will go into gear like butter.

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  6 років тому

      hmm I was gonna put royal purple in my nvv5600 when I did my g56 and I read somewhere not to put royal purple in the 5600. idk why but it scared me so I ordered amsoil/ how many miles on trans!

    • @mattperry5989
      @mattperry5989 6 років тому

      V-BELT and SON , my NV has 219,000 on it. Had a Valair dual disc installed about 16,000 miles ago (before I bought the truck). I haven’t had any issues with the Royal purple thus far. Btw, the day after my original comment, I took the shift tower out to inspect it. The bushing that drops into the shift fork was loose as all get out. I figured I’d try the shift tower out that I accidentally ordered wrong (for the 2nd gen 5600) since a fella on the forums said he had done this on his 3rd gen and loved it...... Idk how he thinks it’s better at all...it was extremely awkward and I could easily see myself accidentally mis-shifting because of the different throw so I ended up swapping the good bushing onto my original shift tower and I’m back in business. No more fighting to get it in gear. I think there is still room for improvement though because it’s got factory clutch hydraulics so every so often it feels like it doesn’t quite have the nuts when trying to engage/disengage the clutch so I just ordered the Southbend HD slave cylinder kit. Looking forward to getting that in there! You are making me a little nervous with what you said about the Royal Purple, any reason in particular it’s a no-go for the 5600?

    • @brycecrane9061
      @brycecrane9061 6 років тому

      KC Common Rail did your slave cylinder end up being the problem?

    • @mattperry5989
      @mattperry5989 6 років тому

      The Southbend hydraulics definitely helped a lot, but I still get a little pushback from the trans at random. Just to be safe, I’m changing the RP out with 5qts of Redline MTL and 1qt of MTL-90. The truck is down right now while I do the fuel system upgrades. When it’s back up and running I’ll be able to give feedback on how the Redline fluid effects the shifting.
