The craziest thing about this footage is none of it is taken where the actual heavy fighting was taking place. Journalists stayed around the outskirts.
This is not entirely true. A lot of popular writers and journalists were mobilized along with all citizens. The cameramen were exactly the same soldiers who killed like everyone else. What the war was like for the USSR is very different from modern conflicts. It was the war of the entire Soviet people. The sons of officials and even Stalin and ordinary peasants and workers fought at the fronts. So there are films with fights. Unfortunately, due to the fact that these were heated battles, operators often died along with their comrades in battle. Some managed to survive and shoot footage, only they need to be found on the Internet or somewhere.
Not to mention the amount of footage that was censored because it was considered either too graphic for the general public or wasn't "interesting enough"
Don't underestimate the soviet war journalists. Helluvalot of them died during the filming real battle

My great grandfather took part in this battle and remained till 47, went back home and he changed according to my mother who said he essentially became schizophrenic and heard German voices telling him to kill his family. To cope with this he would drink bottles of vodka and run out to the forest till he passed out to avoid potentially hurting anyone, my grandmother had to admit him to an asylum on two or three occasions after his death. These guys were made of steel though that’s for sure

Also might remind you that it was not Kursk that won the war but Stalingrad and Bagration operation as whole which started before lend-lease from USSR arrived.

This is what fascinates me the most about WW2. The sheer scale on every level and every year of WW2 and the devastation just cannot even be understood in this day and age. To think that our grandparents actually lived in this era I really struggle with comprehending. The sacrifice was unthinkable.

The sound is not real. This channel is just trying to farm views with a false title, because they know most people can't tell legit from fake. Some of the footage isn't even of Berlin, but of Warsaw in Poland.
I know that at least some of this is bogus because there's no way they have Battle of Berlin footage from the German perspective. All of the actual Battle of Berlin footage is only from the Soviet perspective.
