103 Year Old Reacts to Sora A.I. Video | A Profound Perspective

- When we asked Irving, a 103 year old World War II vet, to watch @OpenAI's recent demo videos from their Sora text-to-video AI solution, we expected him to express strong emotions about the technology.
What Irving offered was a profound perspective on how he expects Sora AI, and similar technologies, to impact humanity. We were not only impressed with how quickly Irving grasped the nature of the technology, but how quickly he formed and expressed precise thoughts on its potential impact.

"We ve always made mistakes, so far we survived it" - concrise summary of human existence from a 103 years old
Agreed, love this quote. Thanks for sharing @SerPitr
I also love the intriguing way he says it.
most didn't
Love those words. ❤
Its a pretty juvenile way to think. Just because we lucked out in the past doesnt mean itll be the same in the future
Wow, that is definitely photorealistic. Looking at that, I could actually believe you have a 103 year old guy commenting on SORA.
lol
Haha, pretty impressive right? :)
Thanks for watching!
Right? Centenarians are always farmers in remote villages who haven't read a book in their life. So I'm not buying this. 😆
But it's true? I'm confused now haha @@ThePosterityProject
Haha. Irving is 100% real human. No AI applied to this video.
But it's kinda scary that we need to ask that question now, right?
My great grandpa is about this old. I know this sounds weird but when he grabbed my hand to say hello it felt like a celebrity or royalty touched my hand. God being 100 years old is just unfathomable 🙏🏻
Great share @TheJroddude! Thanks for watching and sharing your story
Maybe he achieved royalty as in inner state of mind
@DanteS-119 precisely, they're all ai generated.
I wish I had gotten to meet my grand perents and met my dad's mum as a little kid, but my parents had me late, and my dad's parents had him late so being age 35 they would be well over 100 and long gone
This is such a refreshing take. This man is zoomed out about as far as a human perspective can possibly be. He's been there for every major development of technology in the last century and watched the world reinvent itself over and over again. It's easy to get caught up in the feedback loop of the algorithms and lose sight of the bigger picture. If he thinks it's going to be okay, I'm inclined to believe him.
It's a calming perspective, particularly when delivered from a World War II vet (D-Day +7). Irving's seen things most of us never have, and hopefully never will. And to hold such an optimistic outlook after all that, it means something.
Thanks for watching and sharing!
@@ThePosterityProject It means he is mentally strong, he doesn't let unfortunate events and paradigm shifts turn him into a miserable person. He accepts it for what it is and acknowledges the present time is just as real as all the time before.
wish my gramps was still around to witness this change. he's around the same age. passed away right after the hubbub with chatgpt.
‘It takes our imagination and spreads it out’ What a great way to frame it.
We loved that perspective he offered.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Awesome - he doesn't lose a beat. No questions. Just "it's beautiful" and "it takes your imagination and spurts it out."
Truly, he got the big idea within moments. Thanks for watching and commenting!
"...as long as it doesn't confuse the moment with the reality."
Ya, impressed he picked up on this. But still remained optimistic.
Thanks for watching!
It's heartwarming to see Irving's wisdom and insights at 103 years old. His thoughtful comments on advanced AI remind us of the invaluable perspectives our elders bring. Thank you, Irving, for sharing your wisdom with us!
Well said!
He's not only 103 years old, but also 103 times wiser than any member of the current generation.
Certainly a wise man, thanks for watching!
I wish we had younger people that saw us clearly as he does. He’s the way we should all be at 103. Unfazed, introspective, and expansive in his imagination and perspectives.
Agreed, I aspire to get there someday.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
We should all be like that all the time not just after 100. He has the right outlook on life
Yeah, most of the people who are against this stuff are arrogant, self-entitled artists.
@@nickgirdwood3082 100% correct. Artists don't like that anyone can create images they like without having to waste years of their lives now (or, alternatively, paying them money)
@@Lar_meWhich is a genuine take lmao, if everybody can make "art" and "music" by typing, it's valueless.
i think people this old are a glimpse of what a human can become when they reach hundreds or thousands of years of age. I think there is a transition that starts happening, for some it starts at 60, for others it starts at 100, for others it would start at 150, but that transition never ends because we die of age. I dont quite grasp this concept yet, its hard to put it into words, but theres something special about people that old. All of them share something. That "something" is elusive even when putting it into words, but IT IS something. The best way of putting it i can imagine is, imagine vampires were real, and you were about to meet a 1000 year old vampire, the way of talking, of moving, of thinking, refined like nobility because of its wisdom and experience, but at the same time with their own personality, i think fiction cant accurately depict what a real hundreds of years old intelligent being would look like, but its the only thing we have to compare and speculate on todays world. Someday we'll know, when humans are immortal
Get your point. If we can retain mind and body into older ages, perhaps we can begin to transcend to a deeper level of being.
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
@@ThePosterityProject Yes, exactly, i was struggling too much to like get a true and accurate way of putting it without it being too much inclined towards some fantasy xD
Wow, I am deeply impressed by his response. It is thoughtful, wise, and particularly soothing. It's reassuring how he can put everything into perspective.
We couldn't agree more @patrickvdheide3906. Even as a tech enthusiast, it's hard not to have qualms about the future application of AI technology. From a personal perspective, we felt comforted by his response.
That's an amazing response. Love it
Thanks for watching @futurepedia_io
It is.
OT: In the nuclear weapon age though, we can't afford mistakes that leads to full scale nuclear war, because we can't learn from them.

He looks like he is doing better than Joe Biden, I would vote for him.
#IrvingForPresident
@@ThePosterityProject he is for sure is more sane and grounded than Biden. Biden is the living proof that lot of things we see, hear and society we live in is full of lies and mirage to fool around humanity, in many levels, starting with president. Every sane person should now that 1st man in the country who should run the country, should be sanest, kindest and smartest guy, not some stupid, senile old guy who dont know even who he is or in times where he is. Its so obvious that he dont run the actual show but he is the muppet to mock the people and real runners make a laugh over sheep (humans).
I was thinking the same exact thing!😅😅😅
Age destroys the body and mind, some of us will have one or the other (or both) decline faster than others. Irving does seem relatively sharp still.
@@jasonshere If I was half as good as he as at that age I would be very happy.

We spent over 2 hours discussing his life. He's a war vet and a poet. Fascinating man and extremely wise.
Thanks for watching, we may have more to share from Irving in the future.
I love this man's outlook and wisdom. I agree with him 100%
He's extremely optimistic about life in general. Likely a large part of how he's made it to 103.

Dude he encapsulated so well how I always thought about Ai Video. Its something to have fun with. Technology will always be misused. Like cars for example, but overall its good for humanity to enjoy the amenity.
Glad this resonated with you. Thanks for watching!

And even with confusing reality. It’s not popular to accept, but unless you are there when something happens and instead you see it on the “news” it’s not real. As in all the footage, cuts, sounds and words used to describe and present the idea of what happened, is manufactured, and has been since we started telling each other what happened with grunts and hand gestures.
In a conflict, you will see a shot of people loading a canon, then a wide of a canon firing and then a third of people rushing, some dead kid etc. It a tells a story, but there were not three synchronised cameras that knew where the mutation would land in advance. We can’t tell if any of them were stock footage, from different days, years or even conflicts.
This man knows. His long view is so valuable. This is awesome.
Your comment reminds me of Wag The Dog.
Good points, thanks for sharing and watching.

Wow, he simultaneously summed up the real power and value of AI and while demonstrating what it's lacking, which is the very human kind of subjective and personal insight that only someone like him could provide. I love this guy.
You summed it up well. I hope to be half as wise as Irving some day.

Mind blown. This gentleman really is wise. It is so rare to find someone so wise these days. Thank you for your words and perspective!
Thanks for your watching and sharing your thoughts
This brought two things to my mind.
1. There's a type of wisdom that comes with age. You can't get it through books. You have to witness the history and the passage of time and life to gain that. The analogy with the works of art was beautiful
2. There is a part of Irving that thinks like a US politician 😄 I'm not particularly concerned about people confusing fiction with reality but the "let's mess around and find out and hope for survival" response was quite peculiar.
Irving certainly has wisdom from life experience, he's seen a lot. Thanks for the thoughts!

The problem is that most people dont grasp what AI can actually achieve. Just this technology alone, its not just going to effect entertainment.
The impact will likely be broad. What do you expect to see in the next year or so?

The kids panic and worry that the world will change with every new technological advancement. The elders have seen the world change many times and know that in the end the world still goes on, no matter how much people say this is the end. If he was born in 1921 he lived through the Great Depression and headlines like "the end of the american dream", "no hope left, the end of prosperity" and headlines in WW2 dooming about the Nazis and a world forever at war. He also lived through the end of the industrial revolution and heard the things about how machines would take away all of our jobs, and that this would be the end of work, so I imagine he'd not be moved by the claims now that AI will take our jobs.
This is an interesting point.
Are people able to transcend the social concern of the moment after experiencing, and surviving it, many times through life?
This looks so real, it’s crazy. I am personally afraid of this technology for our future!
Except when (not "if") will be misused to generate politicians saying things that aren't true. And the things that they DO say, they can now backtrack it and argue that it was "made with AI" if it's inconvenient to them or to the public.
You're probably right. And not just politicians...

How is he so coherent at this age? HOW?!?!??!?!
I think more modern living is changing what it means to be 90 y/o or 100 y/o. After all, David Attenborough is 98 and still making documentaries.
He exercises 3 times a day and regularly writes poetry. Very unique.
He has a good point about the creative literature. I mean, generative AI in and of itself is not evil or bad, it’s just in what way is it being used and for what end needs to be considered.
Ya, him connecting AI to literature was not something I had heard expressed before. Some obvious differences, but the core point is really astute. I've thought about that a lot since our interview.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Computer generated graphics are not new, they've been around for decades and they've looked real enough to pass in many famous movies. What's different here, and i don't know if the interviewer really touches on it enough, is the speed at which these videos can be generated. The internet has always had a sordid relationship with "trust" as it pertains to the things we see and hear, but this technology completely throws whatever trust we had out the window. We live in the wild west now - believe at your own risk.
We definitely did not dig into this point, we were only looking for a hot take on the technology.
But in a broader conversation, this is a very important point. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
The literature comparison was very good, though. You never really "know" if what you're reading is true. It just comes down to whether or not you're willing to trust the source.
Now video and audio are the same way, but to some extent, they always were. AI will be what makes people realize this.
Wow he is still incredibly sharp at 103. Impressive!
