It's a VERY true observation that the United States is what happened to British people when the King finally said, "You're on your own!" The American people essentially took their "need for a all knowing superpower" and transferred it from royalty to government. That's why our elections are a fucking mess. Imagine if Britain VOTED on their royalty every 4 years. There would be bombed castles. Keyed horses. Stolen fetuses.

American here: So, I am a big lover of British history and the reason why I enjoy is BECAUSE the apple does not fall far from the tree. The more I learn the history, and especially modern day politics, I see we are EXTREMELY similar. I have my theories as to why that is but yea, I think the reason why the British get away with their crazy (sort of) is like, the accent and the old traditions, and it’s all very “regal”, vs in America, we don’t have that.

I've always found some people's devotion to the monarchy strange. As an Irish person who once lived in England for a bit, it was an experience to listen to people talk about it, it's like they don't realize how outlandish and strange it is, like approaching an uncontacted island and realizing they revere some random dude as a God for no reason.

As a Canadian (commonwealth nation), I view the monarchy as an expensive relic that represents the oppression and colonization of our Native American population. They also represent wealth inequality. Recently, a statue of Elizabeth II was erected in Toronto that cost more than a million dollars to make. We had to reprint our currency for Charles, which cost millions. We were expected to pay for the security of Harry and Meghan when they first intended to live in Canada - to the tune of more than $6 million per year, until the government refused. All of this lead to a public outcry. All this despite the fact that polls show less than half of Canadians support the monarchy.

    • @betternews3835
      @betternews3835 5 місяців тому

They hated her long before the Oprah interview. For eg. the false "Meghan made Kate cry" story was published by the Sun.
The "Oprah lies" narrative was propagated by Piers Morgan who has hated Meghan, ever since it became clear he wouldn't be invited to the wedding. Before that he defended her. Many of the Oprah claims were unverifiable by nature but some were purposely distorted by the media. Chief example was Archie's birthright to be a prince. Media claimed that H&M didn't know/lied about the fact that Archie wouldn't become a prince until he was the grandchild of the current monarch (the George V convention). However when you watch the interview you actually hear them mention the George V convention by name. They were claiming that discussions were being had to remove the convention so that upon King Charle's ascension, Archie would not become a prince.
The Daily Express wrote an article in April, 2018 how Meghan's request for a private wedding was denied by the institution due to public interest. The 30 million pounds wedding was indeed a spectacle and it took place on May 19th, 2018.
Meghan's father and siblings have since made it obvious why she would not have invited them to her wedding. All of them have publicly bullied her via the press. Samantha was unveiled to be the anonymous troll who started the false pregnancy lies and Thomas has worn blackface to mock Meghan. However, Meghan wanted to invite Samantha's daughter to the wedding but the firm requested that she didn't to avoid increasing attention on Samantha's behavior.
H&M are understandably protective over their children. There are people currently in prison who made death threats against Princes Harry and Archie. Also, the media is not above harassing their children. For eg. the lie that the QEII was angry that H&M named their daughter Lillibet. An obvious lie meant to incite anger against a toddler and her parents.

That's no argument at all. We don't just pay for their food and energy bills.
We pay for their *extensive* retinues of personal staff.
We pay to repair and maintain their collection of palaces and castles and the hundreds of acres of land around them.
We pay for their luxury clothing, luxury cars, helicopters and yachts.
We pay for 24/7 police guard for who knows how many of them.
We pay for their kids private schooling and university fees.
We pay for their little jaunts all around the world in private jets.
And finally we pay personally when they and the established that surrounds them block progressive policies that would create a more equal and fair society.
Needless to say, no amount of tourism could ever repay what they cost.

not to be like a peasant from the French revolution, but it actually shocks me how people will fight nail in the head to defend the monarchy but I've never heard a legitimate reason that has made me think the monarchy compensates with purpose for even half its money that it takes from society. the basis reason to the monarchy is just to keep up a tradition from centuries ago. CENTURIES AGO. it's arguably caused more harm that it has good: thinking about the colonial and imperialist history of the monarchy, and how it still has power of the countries it took advantage of years ago. plus, forcing two random people to consummate when they might not have an romantic or s3xual attraction to each other is just wrong. did we not learn from Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI? people to this day still get confused to why the two kids, who married at 14 and 15 respectively, didn't consummate until 7/8 years of their marriage, when maybe putting two people who didn't grow up with each other and feel pre existing pressure from every adult around them to get in bed. child marriage and children giving b1rth is wrong for any class of people. I know they probably don't do that for the present monarchy, but the history of it is undeniably messed up.

Is this their last effort of reliability with the British public?

LeT iT bE kNoWn: I am not trying to start an argument etc with my opinion, or downgrade others, because none of us have the time for that online.
I’m a Gen Z who is fond of the monarchy. Granted, I do come from South Africa, which had HEAVY colonisation, so people do find me odd in that instance. However, no one has forgotten about that past where I am from. I suppose I like them quite a bit, mostly due to Kate. She has been my role model for a while, and from my own experience, she is a great one! Additionally, I used to be a very anxious child, but when I began watching royal etiquette videos and teaching myself what I could, said etiquette has helped me hugely when I didn’t know what to do in certain social situations.
Tbh, I’m not involved in talks about the different generations, partially because Gen Z is painted out negatively in most cases and a lot of articles around it are nonsense. Though, I will admit, there is hardly any interest in the RF from Gen Z.

Pomp, beauty, valour, fantasy. The monarch’s feels like a brand, it romanticizes a bygone era, it’s a holdfast for nostalgia.
It doesn’t rely on you knowing everything about them, it relies on mystery and presentation. It actually thrived when the public knew very little of them, just like how celebrities in the 90s felt grander than current ones, because now we see everything whether they like it or not and the mystique is crushed. And when we see them try to build Parasocial bonds with the public and try to be relatable we interpret it as inauthentic and pr.
The Parasocial social phenomenon is actually a neutral thing, it’s just in our socialized nature to be inspired by one another and observe. But now we’ve entered our Truman show era...
People like the monarchy in the same juvenile way they like the movie Cinderella. They love a pretty and fashionable woman in pearls and a ball gown dress, and a prince in a waist coat.
Fantasy and vicariously living through those living indulgently.
A faith based system ultimately because of the use of a god justifying their power.
Of course, they’re right and of sound mind in saying divine intervention came fourth and decreed them the ultimate power for eternity. Right, guys? 🙄 But anyone else to use such language would be listed as a schizophrenic with religious delusions.
Sounds to me William the conqueror yapped his way to the top besides the whole scorching the earth and genocide campaigns bit and weaponized religion and the public’s lack of education. Serfs probably were told to be grateful to exist on the holy land of their supreme leader (owner)
If the genesis of any new power came to be in modern times like the monarchy we’d call it a terrifying religious cult.

    • @surette2012
      @surette2012 6 місяців тому

I get that if we sourced all our histories and the history of those who are in power to this day, we’d likely see some injustice, murder, senseless destruction and greed.
I don’t believe in the whole ‘sins of my father’ concept that anyone that obtained wealth from an amoral ancestor are of the same cruel nature.
I think there’s possibility of those with great power to do great things with it. Create better systems, level out the wealth disparity. But restitutions and fairness is top priority of those still suffering from past harm. we should also not tolerate bad behaviour from members of the royal family just because they’re protected by the power of their forefathers.

Benadotte. The norwegian monarchy is NORMAL. The people VOTED to have a monarchym, and was gifted a non-heir son to the danish throne. Because the public chose the king, the church doesn't crown the,, and the current king has never once worn the crown. which is kind of a bummer for most kids. lets be honest. at this point monarchy has outstayed its welcome, but maybe it is cheaper than voting in a new president every now and then? it just kind of feels like elder abuse

So, United States-ian’s perspective. I have yet to go to the Britain, but I happen to know a fair amount about British history, like going back to the 1100 (note, I like all history, not just British/UK but that’s what this particular video is about). The royal family, especially once they lost pretty much all law making powers, have always fascinated me - it’s like the most expensive pizza party ever that your boss gives you when you really wanted was a raise. It’s very wild to watch, especially when tied up in the “divine right to rule”. However, let’s say that the monarchy was abolished today, there is some much British history in that country that does not revolve around Buckingham Palace, that you would absolutely still get tourists. I think that’s such a crap take that the monarchy has to be a tax burden on the people so people can like, wait for hours to see a royal person. Like, nah. It’s takes 14 hours to get to the UK, I’m not standing around for hours to maybe see a person. Vacation time sucks in the US - time is limited 😂

Honestly, I never got the tourism argument. They don't need to exist for tourists to still come and pay to see royal sht. Even if that argument was valid (which it isn't to anyone who thinks about it for more than two seconds) the money they supposedly bring in is vastly insignificant compared to how much they cost the country each year in tax payer money. They should just abdecate, no bloodshed needed.
