We moved to our 11 acres in 2011 from a large city in the Midwest with zero carpentry and farming skills. We live with no solar / wind power / public water or well. We share our adventure to a sustainable life, growing our own food from vegetables to meat. We post videos DAILY and they range from HOW TO to EVERYDAY LIFE and NUTRITION on the off grid homestead. We were city folks just like you probably and wanted to enjoy life and have more control over our food. We share food recipes as well as natural remedies.

Beautifully executed video about what is wrong in America... Nice video... The end of your reminds me of the first Kenworth I bought because my dad bragged how they was all made in America and they still is he would say to me sometimes he pointed to the Walnut dash in his truck. The truck I found was almost identical to his and man it was cheap... Well it was all big kinda shiny the price was dirt cheap and yet the motor was a power house boy did it have some real throttle to it the salesman said so asked if I was ready to sign the note on it yet. It was only after signing the title in my name I got it home went to back in beside my dads dirty old truck all big and proud I straddle clean blocked the drive way only to find out it had no reverse.... Back in those days they wanted almost 7K to fix that Allison gear box. After the neighbors 3 horses hitched up pulled it along side the barn in our working spot the old man really laughed at me called me a few derogatory names for being such a dunce he asked me again how cheap the price of the truck was that couldn't back up and make no money he said to me. Then he said tools over there in the barn it ain't sitting here forever kid we got other stuff that needs to be worked on he said to me... And the 3 months it did sit there was like forever to me and so was the endless list of parts of gaskets and money but compared today it still was expensive although there were not that many parts to that old Detroit made Allison gear box It had... The day I got it running I was cleaning out the sleeper on that old 79 Areodyne... She sits in her spot today all shiny once more thanks to me and PPG paints.. Well a mouse ran out of the truck down my girlfriends arm and she screamed like a woman my dad heard it. I had no idea there was food in the storage cabinets in the sleeper... My old man told me about multi tasking is what ya money

I have a Swisher Splitter. One of the great points about it is being able to disengage the hydraulic pump when starting especially when cold. There is no pulling cold oil through the pump. It is easier cranking and after your engine has run a short time push the lever and engage the hydraulic pump. This feature and being made in the U.S.A. are two of the reasons I went with Swisher. Thanks for the videos.

We believe that the destiny of America is not as a low rent service sector economy, hobbled with foreign debt, and unable to manufacture its own goods. For too long we've conflated a cheap price with a good value, which over time has led to broader negative consequences for our industries, communities, and American workers. That's why we're committed to making ALL of our products with an unwavering dedication to quality, value, and service right here in the United States.
As a US Veteran and American family owned business, we're proud to partner with a great company like Swisher Inc. who shares our values, to produce our LogOX forestry tools in the Heartland and play our small part in America's manufacturing comeback. We really appreciate Doug and Stacy bringing attention to this important issue for our country, and would like to encourage everyone to buy American made products whenever possible.

I have a 27 ton Swisher log splitter, it’s great. I have never seen any wood it would not split. I’ve split four foot diameter, one hundred year old oak. It took two men with six foot pry bars to move the logs. Goes from horizontal to vertical very easy. It has a lever to disconnect the pump from the engine to enable easy starting in cold weather. I noticed that the splitting wedge on your log splitter is on the ram instead of at the end so the wood falls on the ground as soon as it splits. The wood staying up on the splitter let's you decide to split it again or toss it into the pile without needing to pick it up again.
Of course the extension table helps with keeping it up where you can get it helps too.

Nice video, especially the bit at the swisher factory. I've had the small 12 ton verticals only model for about 10 yrs now. It perfect for the average home owner who doesn't have room to store a larger machine. It's a shame that they don't make it anymore and it's likely that the reason is as you said that they can't be competitive in the market. The primary reason I chose the brand was that it's made in the USA. I alway prefer to buy American made products, tool especially but sadly it's become harder and harder to do.

I wish I had seen your video before purchasing my log splitter, that runs off the three point on the Massey. Been using it for eighteen years now with no problems, but the automatic return function of your Swisher's handle/switch would be an upgrade.
I am going to google Swisher, and if I am ever in the market for a zero-turn mower, will give them strong consideration.
Thanks for posting, and I agree 100% that paying a little more for a local product is well worth it, something that needs to come back in vogue here in America.

Toss in the tractor bucket made a pile less than 100 feet from stove used wheelbarrow to bring the wood in this skips the stacking so once dry just cover with Polly and toss some on top to keep the wind and snow from blowing off the Polly tarp .

I absolutely agree to buy local in whatever country you are in, supporting your own industry instead of foreigners. That turkey is just too cute and I wonder if you will ever be able to slaughter him ;-)

I worked in The auto industry for 30 years and that's what we have been saying for years buy American, yes it cost more but it save jobs. I'm glad to see people starting to come on board that buying thing cheaper from other country is just hurting our country. It's time we change that. Cheaper is not better it mean you have to buy it 2 or 3 more times in your life. it sad but true!!!🍒🍒🍒🍒

Asian countries make the best cars today with American at or near the bottom of the pack for value. If they want us to buy American made cars, they need to stay competitive.
I’m not talking about more money for the same quality of car. I’m talking about the same money for quality and long lasting.

@@KingArtexerxes I was working in a plant where we were told back in the 70s that there were 2 Asian company's coming and we had to train them on how to make good Quality part so they could learn the trade. These 2 company's Are one and two in the Auto industry today, Why Because American workers trained them an then years later there jobs were lost to that same 2 company's. what I'm trying to say is our government sold us out along with the Auto Industry because of cheap labor. But what you don't understand is that's not true for today maybe back in the 70s but not today, you have the internet the facts are out there find them and read them, its all about the greed of are American company's and are government. One more thing Ford, G.M. Chrysler back in the 50s took care of there workers till greed took over, final words!!!!🍒🍒

Hi Doug it's Billy with F&M Homesteading here in SE Kansas. We have been heating our homestead house for 3 years with a woodstove. We are fortunate enough to have an Omish sawmill located about 18 miles away. We get bundles of Flat Wood from the mill. The bundles are the size of a big bale of hay. They are 4ft long various diameters. After cutting them to the length we need we get around a rick of wood. The cost for a bundle of this wood is $5. Yep I'll say it again $5 we bought 6 bundles last August and heated our homestead house all winter from October until late March for under $30. So far no log splitter is needed, I'm 58 and enjoy time hand splitting the pcs that need to be split. I agree buy local, buy American Made. Love your channel.

Swisher's are a great product and if you watch you can find them at end of season sales from different companies. Although my splitter sits, I prefer splitting by hand for the exercise and it's faster than hydraulics. So buy a good American made splitting maul as well.

Did not know that. Been busting wood by hand since I was a kid,but like you the years are creepin up on me. We're in the process of having a new chimney installed for a pioneer bakers choice cookstove so its gonna be more of a full time thing now and I've been looking at splitters. I'll give swisher a look.

I paid $13k for my splitter, made in Wisconsin. It's a super beast with a 7.5 second cycle time. All kinds of wedge configurations but I mostly use the 4× box wedge. Produces four 4"×4" pieces in one pass.

I had to refine the search to eliminate the sponsored products before I could even look at one Swisher. Not terribly expensive so I don't understand why you wouldn't buy a made in America one.

Park the loader at the splitter and toss the wood in it, don't move it 2 or 3 extra times. Or load picking bins to move with forks.
