    This is invaluable for new players trying to learn most types of chords in open e tuning. Gonna like and subscribe just because of this video alone. Thank you for all that you do

    Thanks, Dan. I’d been struggling a bit working out that progression.

    Hey Dan! How much do you play in standard tuning? I have one of my guitars in open E but only ever use for slide

      Hey man! I play in open E almost all the time. Occasionally I’ll pick up a guitar that’s in standard tuning to write some different chord progressions

    Hey man, I've been trying to learn this style, getting used to living in open e, and it means so much to me especially that derek is inspired by indian music.
    Its great to find a channel thats dug so deep into this, there's only handful on UA-cam right now. Cheers.

    really enjoyed this! this gave me the tools to expand my chord vocabulary not just in open E! just examine how a major chord is fretted and then just alter the fretting for the desired chord! so simple yet so useful! now I can come up with voicings in any tuning. I would love to learn from another video about inversions, extensions, etc.

      @@danvtoppo Since the low E acts as the root position for chords, could the 5th/low B string act as the 2nd inversion position for chords? I'm wondering since the 5th/low B string is the 5th of E, could it be used in the same manner? Likewise if you tuned your 5th string down to G# rather than up to B, could it act as the 1st inversion position for chords since G# is the major 3rd? Not sure if that made sense in communicating it.

    • @danvtoppo
      @danvtoppo  4 роки тому

      @@samdixon6433 Good question. If I'm understanding correctly, yes. the voicing for the triad with the low B string acting as the bass would be 5-1-3, which is a second inversion major triad. (the 1 would be on the middle E string and the 3 would be on the G# string).
      Similarly, if you use the G# string for the bass note, the voicing will be 3-5-1, which is a first inversion major triad. (the 5 would be on the high B string and the 1 would be on the high E strings).

    Great stuff Dan, yes please make another video on chords! Also if you have anything to say about fingering behind the slide and making chords with the slide on! Thanks for everything!

    Hi Dan.
    Absolutely great lesson. Your own playing is spectacular.
    Desperately trying to learn this chord sequence but first necessary to get the chords. Have to virtually pull my fingers into position for the 7sus4 and the A aug 7.
    Keep up the courses. This has really reenergised my slide playing.
    Not in the same league I’m afraid
    I live in Spain where are you from your accent isn’t very strong.
    Cheers
