Next “element table” a mountain that has an epoxy cloud on top?

Underrated comment! This would be so cool. The little peak that sticks up above the cloud is what pops in my head. Reminds me of the smokey mountains

John definitely has the coolest projects out of all the woodworkers on UA-cam. I love that you include your messing around in the shop and include footage of you just staring at the project and thinking where to go. Way more relatable (and entertaining) than the step by step videos that only show the woodworking.

Hey John, now you have to create the top for the other three seasons too. ;-) Maybe one base with four tops to change whatever season is at the moment ;-)
BTW: I have the idea for another epoxy project: Take a massive tabletop (i.e. maple), burn it down, really deep. So you have the cracks and it will look like cooled lava. then put in some small amounts of orange/red epoxy. I should look like liquid lava in a cooled lava field. After this, cover the whole tabletop in crystal epoxy ;-) What do you think?

Sweet proof of concept! I think it'd be super cool if you made one with a 3D top; where the epoxy extends down in a tree shape, and the top looks like you took and cut the top of the tree flat! Then the bits of the base that show up look super natural because that's what would happen if you cut off the top of a tree!

Hey John I use the Milwaukee m12 die grinder to carve you can buy any cheap 2 inch aluminum oxide discs for them. I use 36-40 grit to hog away material and you don’t get any tear out. I can carve for around 30-40 minutes on one 4.0 m12 battery. I currently use mine to carve birds. I roughout them out on the bandsaw and then shape them with my die grinder from 36 grit for shaping up to 10000 grit for finish. I don’t do any hand sanding on them. It makes the job fly and you don’t have to worry about losing a finger!

  • @famousamoso7

I think it looks great. The 1 thing I would suggest to improve it is when pouring the resin top that you have the table suspended like a 1/2" so you don't see the limbs protruding through the top.
And maybe making the base a little more organic by cutting through the base so you can see the individual roots branching out instead of 1 big cluster.
