An interesting video for someone old enough to remember attractions on the other side of Monks Walk and I recall them with the park maps I kept. Yes, back in the early 1980s the water ski area was open to Thorpe Park visitors. In 1981 the Land Train (a Dotto train) ran through an underpass below Monk's Walk to the Britannia Arena with a stop on the peninsular near the control tower. Nature World was called the Water Gardens at that time, and was accessible on foot. As you say, one could hire boats and have a peaceful picnic. In 1985 there was a bridge to the water ski arena and the public viewing area. By this time the land train ran to the new Thorpe Farm, from where there was a foot bridge to the Water Gardens which now had a nature trail. I always used to enjoy the tranquillity of this area. The Water Gardens area was named Nature World in 1989 and then renamed by 1992 as Thorpe Wildlife. During the late 1990s it became an increasingly run down, forgotten area, eventually closing in 2000. Access to the water ski area for Thorpe Park visitors had closed by 1990. A Drive in the Country opened in 1990 and presumably due to the installation of X NWO, by 1997 was relocated to near the Canada Creek Railway and re-themed as Miss Hippo's Fungle Safari. The last year of operation for this ride was 2008. I hope this is of interest to younger viewers who might not know how different Thorpe Park was in its early days.
I find it fascinating how big thorpe used to be compared to now. Its actually a huge park! Great video marcus is great to see someone going to monks and not doing an exodus video
