I'm holding out for the quintuplet, with the gold paw print.
I'm sure a team of engineers will design one, this dude will make a video taking the credit, and OPT will add a $200 hype tax to it eventually...
I'm waiting on the red frog legs edition
@@Locutus720 me too
@@bollio he asked for specs, he didn't design it and he didn't say he did, he HELPED design it.
I am a fan of yours Trevor; i always recommend you when people ask about AP. However I have been researching this now as I am looking for a more portable set up and so I really wanted to compare all the small refractors... there was one clear (cost) outlier and it was the raptor. It is clearly a branded version of a standard oem design (which, don't get me wrong, looks solid)... however this is so much more expensive - not far off twice the price of other near identical OTAs!!! Plus it doesn't have a few things standard that you really should have - the guide scope mount you showed in the video doesn't come with it (correct me if I am wrong) and you have to pay extra for the eyepiece mount... the mounting bracket is perhaps an upgrade but completely uneccesary. As I said it's not far off double the price of the sharpstar and ts optics, omegon etc. even when they are bumdles with the (standars) flattner, they also clearly state flp53 glass... can you confirm that this also has the same? Why is this so much more expensive, do you still stand by this product/price.
As I said at the beginning I am sincerely a fan which is why this particular video/advert really doesn't feel right.
He designed this the very same way I designed my iPhone 13 pro max.
Honestly I don't want to throw any hate around especially towards Trevor as it is clear he has done a lot to open AP to a wider audience - my point here is really this specific endorsement is something I hope is not repeated. It just undermines the credibility of what he has created with the Astrobackyard channel.
If a person lies about the small things then I assume a person lies about everything. I and others are more than fine when people push their wares onto other if done in an open manner. Trevor wants to wax lyrical about a product that he's been asked to push? Sure by all means, but be honest about it. Hyperbole is one thing, outright lies? His tutorials for the process of astrophotography is fine. His reviews of products? Not so much. He cast his own shade on his credibility there. Reading the comments on this sharpstar (radian) by users that were duped into buying this overpriced clone despite protestations at the time from others who knew better speak volumes.
I, and others are not spreading hate, we're simply banging at the drums of truth. So that when new comers stumble on this video they'll at least be informed of the truth.
You did it! And I can't believe you did that! Talking about a telescope that already exists as it was your own creation! Did you forget that there are many people who look up to you? Don't you think that you have a kind of responsibility!? Maybe you just don't care... Good to know that there are some other serious astrophotographers out there who make themselves the effort showing us this rip-off in detailed videos!
I think it is not to late to go another way and everyone makes mistakes. But fooling people, taking their money and saying "thank you to all of you who made this possible" is not the right way. So the future will show.
I feel bad for all of the people who payed hundreds of dollars extra for a re colored sharpstar.
I don’t know if it is Trevor’s fault. He might’ve not known about the sharpstar.
If this video a joke? All this scope is is rebranded Chinese OEM scope sold at a huge mark up.
The difference between this and the TS-Optics 61EDPH being? Except for the colour and the rings, of course. :D
Basically the same scope, except for minor cosmetic changes. But a big jump in price. A typical business ploy.
Yeah he’s been called out on his bs. A while ago now this channel changed for the worse. This kind of rip crap is the nail in the coffin.
Do NOT buy this overpriced rip off.
I can respect a person for trying to grow their business but to outright misinform and misrepresent products is just disappointing and disrespectful to the Astro community especially since he had a huge following. He was called out as a liar and after seeing and reviewing the facts, I too believe he is a liar and needs to take responsibility for his words and actions. Trevor, Own your mistakes, acknowledge them, learn from them and move on. Don’t try and continue to misrepresent your “raptor design” when you fulling understood that you were intending to lie.
WOW!!! Congrats 😃 I’ve been looking for a new scope and jumped on this sweet piece. I so excited for this to come seems like time will crawl until it arrives Thanks for this 👍
Super cool project you are part of! Keep on your great work!
Clear skies! -Chris
Congratulations Trevor. This is fantastic and it looks like a real winner. On the shopping for my next USA trip. Thank you.
How is your scope doing. Haven’t seen many more videos of you capturing images on it. Or maybe I just missed them
lmaooooo
It’s actually in all of his videos, you just can’t see it because the aperture is too small 😢
Great job Trevor and Congrats. Looking forward to getting my hands on one.
Congratulations Trevor!! Loving some of the features here, this is definitely on the shopping list!
With the Askar FRA400 you get a Flatfield scope that you can use at two focal lengths, one of which is 280mm at/3.9, very nice set of rings, awesome focused and more aperture (72mm) at just about the same price as this.
I received my Raptor in December and finally had a chance to use it at my dark sky site for LRGB imaging. Sadly, the chromatic aberration in the blue filter is really bad, compared to my Televue76, where CA is negligible-to-non-existent. Not sure what I'll be doing with the scope now. I guess I'll only do narrowband imaging with it.
For the corner stars, you may want to add maybe a 0.5mm to 1mm M48 shim - your backfocus is perfectly 55mm, but your filter sits behind the optical elements of the reducer rather than in front, and thus increases the required backfocus by around 1/3 of the filter thickness.
Great thinking Cuiv! Good to know.
But why, it comes with "everything I ever need!"
Congratulation! Can't wait more photos and videos with this scope)
Yup, so basicaly a 61EDPH with a black coating and minir mechanical modifications, for twice the price.
Calling that a rip-off.
Congratulations Trevor! Wishing you and Radian every success for the Raptor’s rollout.
0:17 no you didn't design anything. All you did was spec some options on the order form of an OEM company. You, sir, are a fraud.
I just ordered mine with the star adventurer pro pack can't wait 🤗 I've been doing visual astronomy and taking photos with my phone and minor astrophotography with my cannon t6 on a tripod. Thanks trevor I've learned alot from you and have been watching since I started three years ago next level here we go.
How dare you con people like this, Trevor. We all expect much better from you. Hell, you could have just been honest that this is out of a catalog from a Chinese manufacturer and is only different in color. But no, you lied multiple times and conned people, or at least were part of the team that conned people. Nearly 50% price increase for the same scope sold elsewhere. I hope this really tarnishes your reputation, you deserve it.
Trevor, I think this is awesome! Just placed my order and can't wait.
Congratulations on this superb telescope that you designed. I look forward to seeing it in action.
It looks badass! Congrats Trevor and Radian Team. Looking forward to own this someday.
Congratulations Trevor! That is a damn fine looking scope 🔥
Duuude! That's just pure awesome. Congrats!
Images look great. Congrats!
I Lied. The Pre-Order starts TODAY: bit.ly/raptor61 For those that get one, remember to hashtag #Raptor61 in your photos - I've got something special planned.
Love from India Kolkata I got so many questions a beginner hope u been through that phase..plzz I need some guidance...
Way more affordable than I would have guessed. Looks like something special.
Yes even i can afford it with my salary of like 100$ a month
WG Smit mounted nicely too. I don’t think up ready for another scope though.
Also would this ship to South Africa
?
Man that’s a beautiful looking scope keep it up clear skies
Trevor, once again you are spending my money! Raptor ordered! Thank you for sharing your passion and helping me improve my hobby - I always look forward to what you are focusing on next in the night sky,.
hi trevor thank u for your inspiration i have bought my T7i and thanks for this info keep this good hobby up
Holy balls it's beautiful. Well done buddy. I will be buying this once (if) it's over in the UK. Clear skies sir, you damn well deserve it.
TiddlyWin don’t forget VAT @20% plus 4.20% customs duty until they can set up a uk stockist !
You didn't design this telescope. You picked features from a catalogue and added them together. I doubt you even know the refraction index of each lens in that triplet.
Super excited for you! it is an awesome telescope based on the pictures. They almost look like 3D!
Amazing, looks awesome Trevor!!
I just recently found your beautiful astronomy videos, beautiful shots of other planets , absolutely amazing 👍
Subscribed so I do not miss any new videos .
Congrats, Trevor! I have telescope envy!
Ouch this is an amazing scope, bro u have done a very good work❤️😎
Love that this is f4.5, gathering that light faster is a big help in the North West, even over a f5.9, this helps alot.
I'm not at the moment an astrophotography but from what I've seen online and UA-cam vlogs it is interesting me,
Your new rig you've put together is in my limited knowledge amazing
Excellent work, thanks for sharing
This is so awesome Trevor. Congrats! I hope I can afford it someday!
This telescope looks perfect, I wish I could afford it lol. I have a doublet that works for me, I'm curious if this one would work on a tracker made for dslrs. I prefer telescopes that are studs, I like short but wide and this looks amazing. Thanks for this design.
I've been thinking about getting a wide field scope in the future and this has just shot up to the top of the short list!
So I just came across a video debunking you as being a designer of this telescope. Do you have a rebuttal to this? I would love to watch it.
Congratulation Trevor!!!!!
This is a fun looking scope. I've pieced together my own wide field rig, and can say going this route will save people a ton of work. On mine, I waited months for the right flattener and had to cobble together mounting blocks for a guide scope, dew controller, Raspberry PI, etc. Having a ton of threaded holes on the rings is an awesome idea.
Well done.
Well done. Would appreciate if you could share the details.
Wow! Thats cool! Congrats!
Congrats!
I am so inspired! I recently made the decision to go completely independent my profession and I am just starting out in Astrophotography, and this has gotten me sooooooo excited about the coming adventure. Thank you Trevor for your courage and passion and aquired expertise 🙏✌️
Been watching your channel for a while. saw this browsing something to amp things up last week. then saw your video below it. I've been trying to work with my tamron 600mm on my nK dslr and its been work. I have subtle vibrations I can never get away from.
Way to go, Trevor! 🙌🏻
WOW all in one ! function ! love it
congrats Trevor! it looks beautiful :)
Congrats! So awesome you got to design your own telescope
Congrats Trevor, I’ve been considering the Space/RedCat, but I’d much rather see a portion if my $ heading ur way, your channel has been a great help and inspiration to get out there. Keep up the excellent work, more regular vids wld be nice to see 😉. I can’t wait to get the Raptor61! Your Aussie supporter Weggs 🇦🇺🦘🌏✨🔭
You've come a long way... Congratulations. I wonder how this compares to the RedCat 51?
Congratulations
Bloody awesome editing mate!
This telescope looks great! I'm brand new to observing the night sky and I'm so excited about what I'm learning from all of you guys. Thanks for all you do!
This scope is a copy of a TS scope with a big jump in price. Do not buy.
You designed it? Wow Trevor that’s really cool! Not around for the premiere but can’t wait to see it 😃🔭
To me "desgined" is a big world. However since refractors had very mature optical design like forever, "designed" here may refer to some nice tweaking of the accessories to better serve astrophotography need: 48mm filter holder, rotator, good focuser, ring holder (with hoes for cable)...small things but nice touch. Very turnkey. I did not see optical and mechanical specs and charts so I don't know how this "design" stack up against others in the 60mm range.
Super looking scope.
Edit in: Looks like you're on top of the world :) long way in a short time!
Congratulations, such a lucky guy, but also very deserved !! Very nice job, following the spirit of Redcat. I like more here the focuser tcp style and less being only triplet. But very desirable and super nice.
Congrats Trevor! I simply must have this scope!
Congrats Trevor! You deserve it!
Beautiful scope AstroBackyard. Must be a dream come true for you! Can not wait to see it in action in future videos!
Definitely gonna check this out for my SA . Trevor , could you possibly tell us what tripod you use for your SA ? Thanks !
He's using the "radian-carbon-fiber-tripod" from OPT iirc
Looking forward to taking delivery. Perfect little portable scope. Paired with the EOS Ra it should be a great system with enough sensor to allow cropping in to smaller targets. I'm planning on using it with a Sky Guider and the ASIair Pro. Now, if only the dealers can get stock in.....
trevor you took the dream to a whole different level congratulations mate
Great work mate, I can't wait to show the world some southern hemisphere targets with the Raptor!
Congrats Trevor and thank you....
In all seriousness congrats man this looks amazing couldn't be happier for you and the fact you designed to fit well with a DSLR is awesome I Will be looking into buying one when we get back home. Does it come with a v style for AVX mount. I think it does I might of heard you mention that
Yea I will probably pre order this friday
Congratulations Trevor. Best of luck.
Wow man I'm so pleased for you
extremely awesome work trevor
The ending was GREAT!
seems to be a worthy competitor to the WO cats although a bit more $$$ than the cats I bought the redcat on yours and other high praise of it and have been very happy with it this one looks like a great scope congrats one of your dreams coming true hopefully many more to come
Have to say it looks amazing!
will they post to New Zealand if so i up for one of those bad boys.. well done Trev..
Got mine a couple of days ago and finally figured out how to access the rotator. Now can you tell me how to find how to put the filter in?
Pretty awesome trevor. I doubt my d3000 is worthless if I had one raptor 61, looks like I need a update. Looking forward seeing more images. Brother.
Dude!!! Looks amazing
I want one!
If I see one show up in Chuck’s video, I’m in.
Dear Chuck, please be a little bit smarter than these sheeps and get a SharpStar 61EDPH II instead. "Travor's" scope is just overpriced repainted 61EDPH :D
Of course you do....
@@heldriver Dear Helen, please understand that Chuck is Trevor's friend and friends support each other, in particular when both are UA-cam personalities helping drive the hobby of astrophotography forward. I'm sure it is a repaint but Trevor is helping beginners with an easy to use widefield scope that comes with everything a beginner would need from multiple mounting plates, a field flattener, and the proper adapters to attach to a camera. I'm sure you can get all of that for the 61EDPH but you have to know what you need to get, something beginners might not. Now Trevor can steer people to a package that will "just work" with an entry level mount and get them good results right off the bat. That will get more people into the hobby and staying in the hobby.
@@heldriver someone else wrote this but it is dead on: "Actually the Sharpstar is $729 US. The Raptor for $999 comes with upgraded mounting plates, a field flattener, a carry case, awesome color, and supports my favorite UA-cam star."
i really like watching your videos i wish i could afford some of these things i just got a celestron 5 se i am trying to get use to it i have got to get a better trypod i have got to get a adapter to mount my dslr to so keep up the good videos
congrats! This is will be my next thing to get...once I save some money...
Cool looks and solid build design. Pictures look razor sharp for such a small telescope. What an honor to help create your own reflector. Congratulations!👏
I meant refractor lol
Outstanding job 👌
My main comment: It has a built in flattener!!! Other than T-Ring, includes everything to get out and shoot. Look forward to user feedback.
Nice1! Looks amazing.
Congratulations, sir.
Absolute masterpiece! I wish I could have the money of it. Time to save money for another thing again haha
lol... I just got an email from OPT to pre-order this. The only thing I wish it came with was a Bahtinov mask like my SpaceCat. Other than that... guess I need to start saving up my pennies, cause $1K ($999.99) isn't just laying around these days. Thank you for all you do!
its a sharp star 61mm rebranded only to Triad
Wow! Trevor! Nice new telescope! Sorry I missed the live stream!
Wow! Awesome man 👍👍👍👍👍
Love this mate
Trevor, you've arrived. Congratulations. I'll see you at Cherry Springs one day....
Wish I had the funds to go around it, since Covid hit I have been struggling to get around. Will just wait until things have settled down before ordering one. In any case, Trevor, you are one lucky person to have your own Dream made into a Telescope. I hope to see more vids of you in the future with your dream.
Love the images you got there. By the way I heard the new R5/R6 are very good in low night situations, would we someday have a comparison between the R5/R6 and the Ra!
Congrats man! You deserved it.
I just got swmbo to approve the Redcat 51 five days ago. Your killing smalls!!! I will wait for the quintuplet design with the gold paw print at the same price.
I wish I could afford one of these right now, I live in Alberta Canada and have spent the last year trying to just get into some astrophotography and see what I really want to be taking pictures of, I have a Nikon D2X I got used for a good price and I bought an Astromaster 130 newtonian telescope prior to diving deeper into watching UA-cam videos and eventually stumbling across you as an amazing resource. Wish I could come visit and take some lessons from you personally. I think the next thing I really need is a tracking mount and I have no clue how to get into that at all.. keep researching I guess.
