merci tout simplement pour la fragilité de l'instant présent...quand viendra un autre plus brutal mais non moins fragile . Merci . Avec humilité et grâce de cet instant précis
Please just remember this was live and hey adlib is jazz forte. not all think and share the same box. Admire and appreciate each musicians solo and nice on. Shredding ones solo or feel doesn't stop me from the excitement when I discover what mode or scale these greats are playing off or coming from!. My picks off to all these great players.
If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one Drying in the color of the evening sun Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away But something in our minds will always stay Perhaps this final act was meant To clinch a lifetime's argument That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could For all those born beneath an angry star Lest we forget how fragile we are On and on the rain will fall Like tears from a star Like tears from a star On and on the rain will say How fragile we are How fragile we are On and on the rain will fall Like tears from a star Like tears from a star On and on the rain will say How fragile we are How fragile we are How fragile we are
Nice, very nice indeed. It's a shame that Michael and Esbjorn are no longer with us, listening to this track gives a small inkling as to what has been lost.
It ISN'T Pat and his ensemble. He is just one of the players in this performance. The other players ALL easily match his level of musicianship. Svensson is the Standout player here...just superb.
totally wonderful.... so fragile we are like soft snow falling down melting away perhaps one day will realize the power is Within then mighty we become not in deed not in money not in greed but in being W-holyness
esbjörn svensson piano , pat metheny guitar , michael brecker , tenor sax , wolfgang haffner drums , lars danielsson bass , nils landgren posaune (voice)
I wholeheartedly agree. Huge contribution to music but also a massive loss. Seeing him play live in Cork Ireland was an incredible experience that will stay with me.
I know some jazz aficionados won't like my comment but I felt that Brecker totally broke the mood (and the drummer followed him down that path). The bassist did an awesome job of kicking it off with just the right energy but with a mellow feel and Pat carried that forward, but Brecker's running up and down the scale with all of his sax squeaks and squawks just blasted this piece to bits. The name of the song is "Fragile" not "smash this". BTW, to bongos added a nice flavor to the bass and vocals, after that he should have just left the stage, if anything the drums detracted from the rest of the piece.
I agree with you there. I don't like his choice here. However, it's not so much of him running up and down the scales, but more about which scale really. Pat and the other guys did run some crazy smoking licks, but they were playing "in" alot, so it fits with the accompaniments. They did play out couple times and were suggestive of that dissonance, but not for long so the ears can still relate. However, Brecker, having to go last, took that suggestion and go completely "out." It's one of those things that he chose the dynamic between the artists instead of the audience. For you and me, it's just not the right song to do so. But then that's just us
davekingpt ... I'm not too crazy about parts of this also. Brecker's solo was kinda harsh. The singer is ok, but nothing special. Overall....good, but not one of Pat's best.
I wonder what Sting could have thought when he first heard this performance. If I were on him, I would probably try and play with all of this guy. It would be such a pleasure!!!
Un moment d une extrême douceur. La vie peut continuer.
merci tout simplement pour la fragilité de l'instant présent...quand viendra un autre plus brutal mais non moins fragile . Merci . Avec humilité et grâce de cet instant précis

Probably the best solo I have ever heard - incredible
The beauty of this music is that there is no noise; just pure sweet tunes.... love it
I am floored by the brilliance of this rendition of this poignant Sting composition. Brecker! Man he just opens me up. Just amazing!
Sting composition, Metheny and superb band - great combination! I bet Sting loves this one!
I wonder.....
Man, what a bunch of guys. Legendary.
Pat Metheny shows his humility and no jealous attitude for to play a song from another superstar such him. Sting must be proud!
Mr. Svenson and his Piano are definitely ONE! Mr. Danielsson = Bass KING!
Esbjorn Svenson like no others..... sourly missed x

Sad about Esbjorn, He was an amazing artist!
World class
Great!!!
Minimalism here this is amazing. Who touches, touches the soul.
Nobody can play like Esbjorn Svenson. RIP
I wholeheartedly agree. Huge contribution to music but also a massive loss. Seeing him play live in Cork Ireland was an incredible experience that will stay with me.
that's not about him, right?....the video's title is about this guy....Pat Metheny....so, we should keep the lead, no?
maybe yes, no? maybe so
Wow I did not know Esbjorn Svenson passed.... :(
Me neither :-( . I just wondered recently why I didn't hear any new stuf from E.S.T. . So sad...
Pig ads right in the middle of this masterpiece - shame on youtube
Who on Earth could dislike this???
fragiles sont les mots quand la musique s'éveille.

to me this sounds great. every solo explored more than the one before. but i like most esbjörn svensson in here. this is a great piece of music.
+stealthyf23 He did go out however the band was swingin the shit out of it by then and it was right in place!.
fully agree
davekingpt ... I'm not too crazy about parts of this also. Brecker's solo was kinda harsh. The singer is ok, but nothing special. Overall....good, but not one of Pat's best.
I love this. Pat is one of my favorite artists. I saw Pat, Lyle Mays and Kenny G (before he was Kenny G) in Stanley Theater in Pittsburg in 1982
Pat has nothing good to say about Kenny G these days
Howard Bankhead I do! ....you already know!!
Who won the fight ?
beauty is !
Jazzdrummers are the true kings!

Holy crap, Michael Brecker f'in kills it! Well done sir!!!
and do you see Pat literally laughing when he finishes...like wow brother.....
I wonder what Sting could have thought when he first heard this performance.
If I were on him, I would probably try and play with all of this guy.
It would be such a pleasure!!!
Michael Brecker.. brings the intensity level to 99 out of 10!
Mostly every jazz musicians have a gold ring on their left hand's ring finger... i guess they are all true with their hearts!
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn
Yea
Godly phrasing
assolutamente eccellente come ogni formazione di metheny
보고 싶은! 예스비욘 스벤손. 다시는 볼 수 없는 스벤손.....당신의 피아노가 그리워.
Ja ja! Tal cual!
Pat's like, " This is pretty cool. I'm groovin' it."
Comparto tu festejo, saludos.
