I'm from the midwest, and I think there are some values that exist here, which do not elsewhere. For example: saying hello and talking to strangers. Holding doors open for pepople. You go to NYC and the response to the things I mentioned are different.

People in the Midwest seem to put more of an emphasis on cooperation and agreeableness.

As someone born and raised in the Midwest, the innocence he describes is entirely true.

Hahaha. "its no different than anywhere else" is about the smartest thing he said in this rant. I guess because I am a MN man of the 90's who has lived in the other places, that is the only line that makes sense.

I would say that is just dishonest. I doubt people from California would say their state is like Minnesota.

1:10 is a pretty good explanation of the Trump phenomenon in the Rust Belt parts of the Midwest.

Seems like the writer sort....... very thoughful in an introspective kind of way. Who is this guy?

@@Andy_Idea That was what I was thinking. Writers tend to be more skilled in expression, this guy was just self-centered and tried to focus the interview back to his life. It was just an embarrassing video for him.

The idea of "the Midwest" as a unitary thing is typically an error.

As a mex American I’m not so sold on Americana. I realize author loves this American values crap. Ive read 2 of this guys books. Both filled with lots of junk. author needs focus. This author is way over rated.

He seems ashamed of his midwestern upbringing. That’s a shame.

Because you are raised in a distorted lens of reality that’s why. Who would be proud of growing up in such a distorted sense of reality? No one is ever straightforward with each other and the tension is just sitting there in the air. Not fun. My own inability to be forward with others seems like a lifetime worth of work to unlearn
