Ninh binh is one of the underrated village in vietnam, I had to skip Sa Pa for ninh binh and I feel its the best decision. Stay was super refreshing in Ninh Binh. And the trekking is one of the toughest one for common people for sure. And regarding scam, I've never encountered any, may be you're bit unlucky.
