Yah, these videos were such a fun exploration of food. I'm missing the funny. It was the best I've seen and I watch a TON of cooking videos. Hope this evolves with the funny that made it so good.
I don't know, but something is missing. I LOVE Alison; i would watch her videos for things i would never make, but this is feeling like every other cooking show. Ever.
@@soehren1 Good lord, it's a free cooking show. And Teigen is even a bigger troll now that she was before and Kondo admitted to having a crazy messy house with 3 kids. It's called life.
The insane pressure we put on women to not change/age/evolve is right here in these comments. Right down to assuming the new content is missing the contribution that two men made, not Alison. Personally I love seeing you take on different life stages, each time with warmth, integrity and grace.
Change is often good for my creative soul, and I know that it's a process. I'll stick around to see where this goes. Missing the fun in this first one.
Gosh, I love your cooking and SO pleased you are back!!! But part of the charm of Home Movies was the back and forth with David and Dan, it gave such energy, I’m sure the new crew are amazingly talented but it was that element that gave it life. Also had such a great vibe knowing it was also in a similar smallish city kitchen, made the recipes more attainable and relatable in an indescribable way somehow. The new kitchen is gorgeous and I’m enjoying the 90’s feels but dare I say it it feels like it’s been done before? Home Movies was so fresh and vibrant and new. Will of course always watch and support (especially any and all pasta dishes obv) can’t wait to see the rest of the series but just a two cents.
Could not agree more. Happy to support growth but this seems a copy of hundreds of cooking videos instead of the wonderfully unique and funny viewpoint it has been up til now.
I know what you mean and I did enjoy the back and forth. I do think that it took time to build that rapport, and that it is Alison’s natural personality that brings that out in people, so I am confident that as this new team gains experience working together it be just as delightful. She is really doing a wonderful job despite the major changes that she has experienced, which I suspect has given her a limited set of choices in the production of her show. Whatever the case may be, I am excited to watch the coming videos and I am grateful that she has put in the effort to make something beautiful for us to watch and learn from.
@@Jess.-. "the major changes that she has experienced, which I suspect has given her a limited set of choices in the production of her show. " Huh? Enlighten us, because I don't know of any reason she can't do anything she wants with HER show.
I feel like this is Alison’s legacy videos now and I don’t mean that like what we now her from, I mean this production style is more for longevity and timeless. She’s weaving in shots in her store filming more of this new space and the context of Bloomsville… all a bit more rounded in terms of her brand. I’ll miss the old style, I will never stop re watching them and I love all the in-jokes. Thanks David and the team that brought Home Movies to life in the first place with Alison. You guys are a solid part of our lives. Good luck in your next steps 🫶🏽
Awww man! I was hoping you'd bring back David and Dan, but I appreciate the need to grow and shift. It's a little serious and stiff without them. 😢 RIP 🪦 Happy for you and will stick around to see where it goes. Change is hard. Forgive us die-hards!
I really enjoyed season one. I would go back and rewatch many of the episodes, and love them every time. They were so much fun. But this put me to sleep. I could not for the life of me pay attention. I can understand wanting to up your game, but where you were unique and individual, and personable and relatable, you are now like every other TV cook I've seen a million times. I am disappointed.
So glad Home Movies is back but I did find myself feeling like something was missing and I realized its because David and Dan aren't here to banter with Alison and I agree with the others in the comments who say Alison seems much more serious without the boys. LOVE the new kitchen and gosh I wish I could shop in your shop, it's so adorable. And I do know Alison got married so I'm sure she's moved out of the city and into a beautiful home with her hubby and David and Dan aren't moving in with them lol but they will be missed! Maybe they came make a cameo at some point later in the season? ♥
@@pipmercer3803 its in the same state I believe not sure which city of Bloomfield exactly she moved to there's multiple Bloomfield's on the East Coast of the US but its definitely not just a short drive.
Congratulations, Allison on the new shop, new home, newish show. You were a godsend on UA-cam during the pandemic. Looking forward to the new season. I know you must have thick skin, but dear lord dont listen to any of these negative comments. Grow! Change! Its lovely.
Awe…I feel like I lost my friends 😞 Sorry but the old format or approach was why I would watch Home Movies. They were always naturally funny. This is too serious! But…still love you Allison and so happy that you have a nice kitchen and cooking area! Maybe you could let your beautiful personality out just a bit more? ♥️♥️♥️
It’s giving Alison’s Nancy Meyer’s Kitchen era. There’s a fireplace, you’re cooking with butter…honestly I’m a little disoriented but I’m here for it 🫶🏼
Happy for you, but the vibes of cooking in a cramped NYC kitchen with Dan and Dave is what made Home Movies Home Movies. This just feels like every other cooking show now.

this informative, refined and jazzy vibe is soooo nice. a perfect season two opener. so, so glad you're back, alison! looking forward to the further evolution of home movies (and to making this pasta soon!)
I grew up outside Rochester NY, and now I live in the tropics. Looking our her window, and seeing the snow and the trees...really makes me feel nostalgic..and missing that area of the world. I really like the new vibe of your show..and of course, the simple, yet great recipes.
That would be cool. Also, people seem to forget that Allison has a right to move out of New York City and change the setup. David and Dan probably would have loved to work with her, but they want to stay in NYC. I live in Virginia, but would love to visit first bloom. But with Gas prices I’ll just have to watch.
Exactly! I moved from Hudson valley to Virginia a year ago and would have loved to have been able to visit the store but, unfortunately, it wasn't even opened then.
Love the Lemon Pepper Pasta recipe. At first tried making it with ghee (healthier). But no, did not work for a lot of reasons. Quickly switched to the six tablespoons of butter, found a long fusilli, followed Alison's directions to a "T," and boy was that yummy. Accompanied this with an Eric Ripert salad with baby arugula, thin-sliced fennel, and marinated artichoke hearts -- this recipe appeared in the WSJ. Great meal thanks to two great chefs.
Congratulations on your new adventures Alison! I’m rooting for you and excited to see how you and the new season evolve. Change is brave and good! I’m here for the new location and new vibe, but did get a little queasy from the filming and editing style. My unsolicited feeling is that like your cooking, you and your content are so excellent that you don’t need to be fancy and the new style is a little distracting, but we all just need time to adjust to this new version of home movies. We missed you and are so happy to have you back!
I loved the old Home Movies, and I am really looking forward to seeing where this new vibe is taking us!! It's different, but different can be just as good, if not better. Excited to follow along the journey 🌟❤
I actually don't think this is like "every other cooking show now", most UA-cam cooking channels are either all click bait and jokes or super serious with voice over and no personality. This feels grown up in a good way, here for it!
The shift of tone for this Home Movie(s) - from the typography to the music track to the lack of little editing pop ups (Rob Thomas') - is like consuming a different brand than the one you've built. It probably marries well to the brand aesthetic of your store, but such a shift is challenging for your consumers who are let down by this sanitized, stayed version. I would never suggest not evolving, but there is no likeness here of what we've come to love and expect from your films. I regard you highly and am thrilled you're back; just a few notes (fwiw) on the creative.
Your feedback is at least constructive. What I will see as an AVID Alison fan, who owns all her books and has followed her since her BA days, is this: Her growth is to our benefit. She actually grew a lot between NY Times and Home Movies, and I could feel a further shift as Home Movies “season one” continued on. If she stuck to a formula, it wouldn’t feel authentic, and that’s exactly why we love her: Alison is totally, gloriously, human. She’s a razor sharp cook and wit, but she shows us her imperfections with a wry sensibility. She makes you want to be friends with her, or someone like her, because she’s so completely herself. Alison is a wife and a business owner and has reached many other professional and personal milestones since COVID hit. Thus, she has to work from a very real place that reflects where she’s at in her life. The recipes today felt completely “Alison,” just in some different packaging. But it’s still the same woman in a home kitchen full of flowers and items that make her happy, talking us through a deceptively simple recipe with enthusiasm. Let’s trust Alison in the direction she’s headed. I believe she knows her audience and is inviting us to grow with her, one step at a time.
I love your recipes. They ALWAYS work and that is rare these days! The reason for tbis note is to tell you how excited I was to see all of the Rancho Gordo beens on the shelves. I can't find them in stores here in Nashville, but I've been ordering them for many years through the mail. They are one of this country's great artisanal products, and the more people that know about them the better. Keep up the wonderful videos!!!
Alison, I’m thrilled to see you’re back but I miss the old Home Movie edits. I’m finding the background music too distracting, the text disappearing too fast and font not easy to read on screen. Overall the chemistry isn’t the same., your quirk and wit with this too formal edit isn’t meshing.
Why did you change the format of the show??? I still love you Alison, but season one actually made me lol! It was soo fun and funny! Bring back the season one vibe PLEASE!
Gonna be honest - I don't love the new aesthetic and I'm devastated at the loss of David. I'm obviously going to keep watching and see if this grows on me, but man I fucking hate change.
I know it's only the first video, so we all have to get used to the changes. Definitely miss the guys!! Echoing a lot of other people what made you unique and special was the quirkkiness of the apartments and the banter with the crew! I think once you get settled, a lot of that should come back! I was in the middle of a Zoom meeting and saw this pop up and wanted to end the call right away lol But i've got to pay my bills and sit on that Zoom patiently waiting!! Hopefully, the crew can maybe come as guests for birthday meals they pick 😊 Definitely. Don't forget the roots. What made home movies...HOME movies ❤ welcome back!
I want to add that I do enjoy the ending when the new crew was eating your food and more of your authentic self showing!!! 😊 I think that is great when friends or crew is joining your food at the end.
Oh happy day!!! So thrilled you are back Alison!. And what a beautiful new kitchen and home. Congrats on the new season and also on the new shop. Our girl has definitely kept herself busy. Can't wait to watch every new home movies videos. Thank you also to your home movies crew for always providing for us top-notch production value videos to enjoy. It's always been a highlight of my week to watch them.
Jeez you people are harsh. With fans like these who needs haters? I always watch Alison’s vids for the food because she shares great dishes that are accessible to someone who can’t really cook like me. This is another awesome dish to try to make at home and appreciate the in-depth sharing from a brilliant cook on each step of the prep.
I love Alison for her amazing cooking, recipes, and stylish presentation whether it be more relaxed or more sophisticated. Cooking is an art form, and artists don’t want to do the same thing forever. Artists grow and mature, and their styles may change a bit. I have learned so much through the years from Alison’s cooking videos and am truly excited to see this new side of her!💛
Happy you are back! This all feels a little serious but I am sure the new crew will warm up! Give Alison a break everyone. It’s only the first one it takes a minute. We all just love your humor so much. Hope to see & hear more about your new cat & new space! Congratulations the store is so sweet & dreamy 💕🦋🌙 Happy New Moon! Hope you get some sun soon ☀️💚
Grateful for the original shows. I prefer that production in every way. Someone else said this show had a Martha and Rachel vibe. That’s what was so special about the original series - relatable. Burning pizza oven in the background? Most of us will never have one.
Get a grip on your hateration. Or at least don't couch it in terms of " relatability". That's like me wishing for everybody to live in a tiny apartment like mine in order for me to feel good enough in this world. When the healthy alternative is to work smarter or see a therapist instead of thinking that people that I don't even know have to stifle themselves to make me feel like somebody.
Totally giving Paula Dean with the butter and the faux Italian kitchen but in a way that I'm here for. I think the whole thing will get back to being Alison-fun once they all get used to each other. We miss you David and Dan!!!!!
I made this for my girlfriend tonight and it was really delicious. When I told her if was your recipe she was surprised it didn't have anchovies :) Welcome back!
Thank goodness you’re back, I was going into a culinary decline, without your weekly inspiration. Simply cannot wait to make this in the coming week. I really loved seeing the crew eating the food afterwards as I had always wondered if they got to try your dishes afterwards.
love alison’s personality as per usual. still pouring one out for the rob thomases and performative bad girls club. it was a great era but super stoked for the new one ;)
Giving late 90s Nigella, Naked Chef, Barefoot Contessa, and I love it. You can't do the same thing forever, so bravo to changing it up and moving in a new direction
LOVE LOVE LOVE the new format! You are enough all by yourself Alison! Recipe is on point and this was so cosy and relaxing to watch! Can't wait for more
It takes so much courage to evolve. I can’t wait to see how the vibe evolves with your team and to see how you use your new space and find a rhythm 💃🏻🕺🏻 I loved hearing about your new ventures. Thank you for continuing to share yourself with us!
Hello fellow Tracy! I so appreciate this sentiment while also wanting to add some more thoughts. Collectively, we love Allison and growth and change AND aspects of the first season lol. Everything about our girl's personality says she appreciates an open-minded, curious, playful, intelligent as well as *honest* audience. Allison doesn't strike me as someone who wants to be surrounded by yes men. With that said, constructive feedback and negative feedback are not synonymous. I haven't read every single one on here of course, but the ones I saw imo shouldn't be ignored especially when what Allison's creating is mainly in service to others. To a degree it's a collaboration with her audience. Some part of her decision making is based on the studies of her audience and so to me It's okay for folks to have a say in something that's produced for their viewing pleasure. Relationships of every sort grow through listening, acceptance, grace, transparency and compromise. It's a blessing to have an audience that loves you but doesn't stan you, trusts you but also informs you.
The silliness in season 1 was a joy, but this feels so much more mature and elegant. Well done, I can’t wait to see more in your new space! (And for the podcast this week, which I think may be the episode we did…👀)
This looks wonderful! Can't wait to try this. What I've always liked about your videos is that you 'teach' a method, not necessarily a recipe. Love the new kitchen. Looking forward to more Home Movies.
Absolutely agree w everyone about missing the light-hearted, but oh so lovely banter with the previous crew and the laid back/funny atmosphere it gave to your videos. Also - can you give us more flavor ideas other than lemons, anchovies and capers? While I am most definitely addicted to anchovies because of you, i hope for more variety this season. Pasta sounds yum, but I'm looking forward to something more exciting. 😋
Love the new vibe, including the jazzy music and the kitchen is lovely! Love the fireplace. So homey but contemporary. Beautiful. I’d be very happy in your kitchen.
Loved this, so happy for you and thank you for always sharing your infectious enthusiasm for food and feeding people, we need more of that these days. Also at the end this had the 2000's Nigella Bites vibes when I'd watch her on the Style Network, loved it! I was finishing an FD order while I was watching and added broccoli to it, ah can't wait to make this :)
The new kitchen is so beautiful, but this video feels stiff and stripped of the humor and playfulness of season one. At the end you guys said “this is so fun!” but I didn’t get that vibe at all as a viewer. Maybe it’s the music/editing choices? They feel discordant with the moments that you are more playful. Though, I am interested to see how Home Movies evolves!
I totally agree with you! I will be a ride or die FOREVER but the music was distracting and this felt a bit too polished. We really love the laid back vibe of all of your other videos sans music and this felt out of place. I'm sure you'll find the right balance as you work with the new team. :) We love you!
You look happy, Mrs. Roman, and that's wonderful, as is living in a beautiful new home (congratulations), but I'm missing the playful relaxed atmosphere of your previous videos, that distinguished you from the rest. Will keep on viewing to see how it progresses
I love it, Alison! So cozy and fun and jazzy!!!! I love that with each video you’re more comfortable with your wonderful self and your incredible talent. I have to admit I cried when I saw the footage of First Bloom. It’s my dream to own a grocery store just like that and seeing a glimpse of it up close made me so hopeful. ❣️Here for the pasta and the broccoli and for you! Love you so much, Chef!🧡
The biggest upgrade is the fridge 👌 And also italic writings gives medieval look with the sepia-ish colours. It’s not bad, we are just used to goofy mood.
The vibe is more serious than I expected. The editing is so different. Thank you David + Team, you will be missed.

Alison, I’m thrilled to see you’re back but I miss the old Home Movie edits. I’m finding the background music too distracting, the text disappearing too fast and font not easy to read on screen. Overall the chemistry isn’t the same., your quirk and wit with this too formal edit isn’t meshing.
snow...a fireplace in the kitchen...you in the kitchen...bliss!!!!

Love the cozy new set up and getting a glimpse of the new store! These videos are always a highlight of my week - so glad you're back.
I made this and my mind was completely blown away. Added some simple seared shrimp on top and it was soooo good.
I’m already excited for Thanksgiving
I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING!!!!!
So happy to see more Home Movies! Always inspires me to get cooking!
I love Alison for her amazing cooking, recipes, and stylish presentation whether it be more relaxed or more sophisticated. Cooking is an art form, and artists don’t want to do the same thing forever. Artists grow and mature, and their styles may change a bit. I have learned so much through the years from Alison’s cooking videos and am truly excited to see this new side of her!💛
I CAME AS QUICKLY AS I COULD ❤
Happy you are back!
I agree, keep it simple! You don't even need to defend or explain. This is what I need right now. Just easy, no stress. I can make tonight.
season 1 opening music riff was perfection 🥲
I’m so glad this show is back! I love watching it while cooking!!
Grateful for the original shows. I prefer that production in every way. Someone else said this show had a Martha and Rachel vibe. That’s what was so special about the original series - relatable. Burning pizza oven in the background? Most of us will never have one.
Obviously she needs that fire back there because it is right next to the door. Chilly!
Yikes, get a grip.
We miss you David and Dan!!!!!
this season 2 is giving late-stage Nigella and I'm loving it
Without the meecro wahvay
YES! very Very Nigella!!! my two absolute favs
@alexandramachado3124 I don’t know why but this comment has me 💀💀. Glad you’re back Allison!
I said the same thing! Love it!
I made this for my girlfriend tonight and it was really delicious. When I told her if was your recipe she was surprised it didn't have anchovies :) Welcome back!
Cute!
Love the new vibe honestly!!
So happy you are back. You have been missed. The openness about mental health is next level awesome.
Giving late 90s Nigella, Naked Chef, Barefoot Contessa, and I love it. You can't do the same thing forever, so bravo to changing it up and moving in a new direction
She's baaackk!!!! YAY I missed your videos T_T
LOVE LOVE LOVE the new format! You are enough all by yourself Alison! Recipe is on point and this was so cosy and relaxing to watch! Can't wait for more
Excited it’s back! Just was kind of dull and had no life or personality like all of the other ones.
yes, no jokes and just like any other boring cooking show :(
It takes so much courage to evolve. I can’t wait to see how the vibe evolves with your team and to see how you use your new space and find a rhythm 💃🏻🕺🏻 I loved hearing about your new ventures. Thank you for continuing to share yourself with us!
You are allowed to grow...and change. I mean we ALL should be actively doing that - geez!!! Ignore the negatives. Keep on keeping on. ❤
It’s not negative! We are the fan base and giving her feedback!
Love the new season ! And the new kitchen, the new camera work , everything!
Yum! The store looks adorable and I’d love a kitchen renovation tour. ❤
This wood-burning stove in the background pushes the coziness of the video to the top 😚
I like the new vibe and that pasta looks SO GOOD!
What a gorgeous kitchen!! I'm happy for you, you deserve it 🥰
ngl missing the low(er) budget feel
Loved this, so happy for you and thank you for always sharing your infectious enthusiasm for food and feeding people, we need more of that these days. Also at the end this had the 2000's Nigella Bites vibes when I'd watch her on the Style Network, loved it! I was finishing an FD order while I was watching and added broccoli to it, ah can't wait to make this :)
Good job, Allison. Happy you’re back in ANY kitchen! ❤
I love this so much. Love the vibe and whatever Alison is making. Cheers.
Looks like everything is blooming in Bloomville! Glad you are back and thanks for another great pasta dish!!
A beyond 10! Glad you’re back! And love the new space. 🎉
Never been so excited for a video. Glad to have you back! :D
glad to BE back!
The biggest upgrade is the fridge 👌 And also italic writings gives medieval look with the sepia-ish colours. It’s not bad, we are just used to goofy mood.
I'm with you for the growth and change. Loved the first Season 2 episode and will make the pasta and broccoli this weekend! Congrats, Alison!
I heard "a world of pasta-bilities" and I can't stop thinking about it and how it may be the greatest phrase ever.
I’m glad you’re back! Can’t wait for more recipes to come
This is *so* cozy and comforting, def a shift away from the old home movies but absolutely love it. ♥️ can’t wait for more!
SCREAMING, CRYING, THROWING UP - SO GLAD YOU'RE BACK!
The pastabilities! Thank you Allison ! New kitchen is beautiful and I can’t wait to see moreeeeee 😊x
So glad you're back!
