      M C maybe 4 reps, not a single guy did more than 5. At the start the shower rules and said must lock out to count.

      He was pretty old here too. Not old enough to lose a significant amount of strength but the wear and tear on your body def slows you down a bit.

      Jerry Cole youre strongest at the top of the motion the hardest part is getting it off your chest. locking your arms increases the range of motion but it also gives you a rest at the end of the press. if you dont lock you keep the tension on the muscle and off the joint which makes for a more intense set. these guys have all likely been lifting like this since high school.

      If you look at world strongest man contests, there are quite many winners and elite challengers in their mid or even late 30s. Strength is the last motoric trait one loses with age. So i think he rather had an advantage here because of his age.

A juiced up Larry Allen at this age in this video would be insanely stronger than this. This man has insanely great genetics along with insane athletic abilities just like the men competing in those world strongest men competitions, but without the steroids.

I'm not arguing here about Larry's potential. I get that in NFL there is much more money and therefore genetic freaks choose pro leagues and not strongman.

      @@maciejguzek3442 At the end of the day we both gave a damn about this bench press video, and with Larry Allen's performance in this video he displayed a fraction of what he's able to do. The man was an absolute unit on the football field as a run blocker and pass blocker.
      I do watch WSM as well and they are absolute units in their venue. Its extremely impressive to see large men perform with tremendous athletic abilities. Have a good day.

I admit I was naive in saying that “‘most” people could push that much weight, tho I do believe people with above average genetics could if they had decent training and bulked up to 270+ at least. I’m able to hit 29 reps of 225 at 225-230 lbs and I don’t think I have that good of genetics

      They do it deliberately, so if the bar drops down and hits the chest as one tires, it won't crush them, and they can quickly remove the weights.

      nitschke9 Regardless 225 is a completely safe weight for anyone in the NFL. People in college are able to handle that weight just fine. And that's without spotters.

    Here's my solution for all of the locked elbows arguments.... Have them bench an empty barbell and hold it up and mark its height of when the person's elbows are fully and properly locked out... and that's the height they gotta reach for all the 225 reps to ensure the legitimacy of each rep

      jim efwards For hardcore lifters 50 reps isn’t that big of a deal. I bet Harrison could hit the 50 mark. Larry Allen is just naturally a beast but Harrison with his powerlifting background and form on bench could knock out 50 easy.

      none of them were. afaik most bench pressers in football related training never lock out, but keep the chest under tension the entire time.

    Fred Smerlas did 56 reps with 225 at Boston College pro day. Smerlas also did 405, that is405 lbs. for almost 2,reps with an overhead press. He was a 5x pro bowl NT for the Buffalo Bills in the 1980s. A natural amazing athlete. Arthur Karelas

    Lorenzo Neal has incredible bench-press form. That back arch, the whole foot on the ground, the bar to the upper-chest. woo That is textbook. (also he was like 80 lbs less than most of these linemen.... dude was a fullback)
