Storytime: The Discovery of Oregon Caves National Monument

  • This video shows the Oregon Caves National Monument. I go a slightly different route in presentation this time. Instead of information, the video will tell the story of Elijah Davidson, who discovered the caves on a hunting trip. One difficulty I had was that tripods and lights are not allowed. Having a stable camera is key in dark locations so I did the best I could with the situation. The employees of the monument give a great tour and lots of information when you visit. They tell you the story of Elijah Davidson so I thought I would do the same. I hope you enjoy the story and views of the cave.

Thank you. This one is especially not scary in my opinion because of all the man made equipment. Lights, doors, walkways, steps, etc.

Thank you! I will have to think of more stories to tell. Rocks were way different than my last cave video. Formed more by water than lava.

There's rock and various minerals a cave may add.
Which our species may admire as beauty or being
somehow unique. If my reader is laid under calcite
saturated cave ceiling drip your bones will become
bonded to the cave interior. Under a crystal shroud.
Hard and translucent for future ages. Until our sun
expands as a red giant and uses flame to swallow
our planet. Unless your tomb went elsewhere
first to remember long extinct primitives said to be
      "Human".

Before my group tour walked underground
our guide asked me to step up front. Saying
my helmet decal denoted me as a member
of organized cave exploration and that the
Oregon Caves staffing were honored by my
presence. I thanked my speaker and said
I'd be the last to follow everybody else, be
silent to hear every word said by our guide,
and my lamp light would only scan the cave
extent behind our walking party, "Personal
interests", I said, which earned me a smile.
