We are planning a trip here and wanted to know how these were formed, turns out the perfect video is made by my friends husband :D You're now part of our homeschool curriculum!
We stopped by the Painted Hills on a whim. The drive to the hills off the main road is very short and it' worth the time to visit. We were in the motorhome and had lunch with the most beautiful views out our windows. Go see it if you are in the area.
Ummm Umm My My :) Matt that was 1,000% Pro all the way Pal. Comparative difference in Seasons was a grand Surprise. Your Narration is perfect buddy, I sure enjoyed this on all levels man, .. Thank You! p.s. The Family Still photo was pure Magic!! All the Best, .. Mike.
Dr Mike. Thanks for stopping by. This place has so much interesting info it made a video easy to fill up. I got another coming from the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm soon.
When I was trucking, I got to deliver the structural steel to the Painted Hills interpretive center. I arrived the evening before and it had just rained. The sage was incredibly fragrant and the night sky was breathtaking. Put it high on the "one of these days" list of places to go.
Hey Matt, started watching many of your videos and was wondering how do you know when or at what state parks it is okay to fly a drone like the DJI mini 2? many of the websites don't offer any info on this.
I always try to follow the rules. Public lands will have same rules for all drones regardless of size. Some parks have a website with info, some have signs, some no info. Wilderness and wildlife refuges are the main places it is always off limits. Did you know every coastal island rock in Oregon is a wildlife refuge? Best thing to do is contact the ppl that run the land and ask. Feel free to ask me about any spots cause I have done the research on most of them.
I hope you are being contacted by educational systems to use your videos to introduce students to photography, the state beauty and diversity, state history, etc.
Thanks so much for doing research, telling us what you've learned, and turning your cool little film into a most excellent awesome documentary. Your voice works well for me to listen to. Subscribed. Isn't Oregon Awesome??
Thanks Rob. I had been meaning to do one here for awhile. Last time I was there in summer, the crowds discouraged me from doing my thing. This winter was empty so I went for it.
Hey, Well done overview of this unit! Once again, I learned a lot. I liked the contrast in seasons on the effect of lighting on the formations. Really stunning photography. Thanks!
Excellent presentation of a really cool area. I think Painted Cove was my favorite spot when we visited (oof...12 years ago I think?) though I loved the main Painted Hills viewpoint when the late afternoon sun emerged from the clouds...truly spectacular. Nice to see the fam making a cameo!
Thanks my friend. Painted hills overlook was my worst footage cause it was a dark cloudy blue sunset at end of day. I almost didn't upload cause of it. Went for it anyways.
Absolutely Agree, I have sent email to OPB, going to follow it with a new hard U.S. Mail Letter. He deserves it 100 times over and I urge others who enjoy the huge effort he puts into these productions to do likewise! Blessings Friend, ... Mike.
I have visited and enjoyed this whole John Day River area numerous times. Chose this location for viewing the last Solar Eclipse. A memorable moment of time in my life in a wonderful location. An area well worth visiting. Thanks again Matt for a very informations video.
Thanks Connie. One of our states most icon stops to me. I didn't have the greatest weather but that meant less people which is a tradeoff I take any day.

Thank you! I can very randomly come in handy like that. Well hopefully the kids like rocks cause that is basically all we look at here!

It is real special. The other two units are great also if you haven't been. I did a video on each unit.
Great place to see. I don’t remember boardwalks but it was a very long time ago.
It is a nice one. Not sure when the boardwalks were added.

Great video Matt! I’m putting John Day fossil beds on my hiking/ exploring list! Thanks for all the ideas and info! 👍👍😄☀
Thank you Jennifer. This is one of the most popular Oregon nature spots of all. Fortunately it is so far out there that it isn't too crowded.
You are correct, the area is photogenic but your little family is as well.
Ha thank you. Glad I decided to include them in a few shots.
As always Matt, great job on this video. I just went to painted hills, when the last snow hit the peaks around the área. It's an amazing place.
Thank you Antonio. This was right after some snow melted. Maybe that helped them look a little wet and darker.

A very special place. Rain has a huge effect on the colors of the hills too.
Donald "small wood" Softroading sent me. Subbed.
Welcome! Softroading is a great channel. I don't upload nearly as much. I do educational outdoor content mostly.

Can you suggest any nearby campgrounds?
Priest Hole or Burnt Ranch nearby. Ochoco is close by which has lots of camping too.

Not really! A mining museum used one once. I do see in my analytics that some classrooms watch the videos. I am open to whoever wants to work with me.
Another awesome and educational video dude!!! We are going here at the end of spring and we will watch this video again before we go.
2x views! Thank you very much!
A wonderful presentation. We’ll add this to our list when we get to Oregon.😀👍
Thanks Lynn! This is one of the more popular spots for sure. Even though it is far from everything many people go here when it is warm.
