I am a Rochestarian, if you are reading this, and never heard of Sibley dept store or saw their windows at Christmas time. If you dont remember Midtown Plaza , you never knew Rochester in the golden years. Like all rust belt cities Rochester will never comeback to the old days, it is over people. Low pay, no future jobs lead to high crime.
It's vague because I'm only 45 but I remember huge Christmas trees, opulence, it reeked of class. It was like going to the high end parts of NYC. I remember a rotary phone store that had every phone imaginable. It was an attraction. Times have changed.
I’ve grown up here and don’t think this is exactly true. Sure, the mall downtown closed down, but we still have businesses in the Sibley building, now called Mercantile. It’s rough, but we are extremely diverse and excepting. Have some of the best technology and medical schools in the nation. It’s also a destination for start up businesses. And we have avoided a lot of the problems of major cities while still offering all of the attractions of a massive city and a very small fraction of the population.
Now let's do rural towns with the most sex offenders
Hilton😂😂😂
What to say here...? I was born in Rochester in the late 60's and Rochester is, has been, and always will be my favorite city. Rochester is deep in culture and history, many don't know or haven't researched the city's beginning, especially the 2nd great awakening in the early 1800's, Rochester used to be a religious city, crime was low, many just don't know the prominent early people of the city or it's wonderful beginning. Sadly in the early 80's, 1980, my family moved from Rochester to a little village to the southwest of the city. My father did not want my sister going to John Marshall High and I'm sure my brothers or I also. It seems as about then that people were moving out, looking for better lives, homes, and neighborhoods, that the city started to go down hill and has ever since. I think one of Rochester's biggest downfalls is the lack of work as businesses moved to the suburbs and people going with them, it left Rochester with a people with no sense or purpose. I think one of the biggest fixes for Rochester is to tear down some of the really old, non-historic, buildings and get companies back in with jobs to give people a sense and a purpose, that with returning to the early 1,800 roots and God would certainly about fix most of the cities problems. I'm sure the that the Rochester now is not the Rochester Samuel Rochester envisioned when it was first a village. To me government doesn't do enough but line their pockets and do as they would rather than really care about a people or a place. Rochester became the flower city after it was the flour city and was a beautiful city at one time, gardens such as Maplewood and such were kept to keep the city beautiful and draw interest, if only the money was used in the right places Rochester can be grown again, it just takes someone with good vision and a good head on their shoulders. My prayer is God will be once again invited into the city and all the world can see what can be done through Him.
@@InsertNameHere911less gangbanging christian crips and bloods🤣 but all jokes roc is trash now im only 18 and from the story from my family it seem better then now
@@InsertNameHere911it builds communities and unites a neighborhood. Go ahead and say that about a black Christian neighborhood and realize you’re being a bigot.
I lived here my whole life, and I’m well traveled. I’ve never seen a city with more greenery hands down. Saying it used to have gardens is total bs. Did you forget about the lilac festival??! Or the fact there’s a park every two miles that like 25 acres?! And a huge beach that’s basically the entire north shore of the city?! And a waterfall in the center of the city?!
And the city has taken some steps forward since ousting Lovely. Sure it can be rough, but we are a major city with less than a quarter of a million pop. Some of the best colleges in America, a food culture that’s around 10 years ahead , some of the best festival and entertainment the nation has to offer. And there’s still a church every mile. So I don’t even know what you’re on. Take a walk around and enjoy where you live and celebrate what is good instead of hiding inside because you want to think it’s bad. Your poor attitude is what is making the community worse.
I'm sorry but who cares about the culture and history of a town that would make parts of Baghdad seem safe. Maybe you should run for some type of government office position there and help make the changes your thinking of. You sound intelligent and caring enough. Stay safe Tim.
I was born and raised here and it's going to get worse before it gets better
Alot of changes would need to happen to slow it down or stop it. Alot
Yes we need ppl to get jobs n being Jesus back into ppls lives
get better ? very doubtful
Wrong I lived in the city my whole life 59 years not a thing has happened. Zero crime.
I live here it’s worse than the video
Thanks for sharing that. my condolences
I was 716 way before 585!
Not sure if thats a move in the right direction....crime-wise
Looks like Rochester is going back to the bad 1980s days,
What a dump
Wouldn't it be great if the governor would work with the police to clean out the criminals and make it safe for the hardworking citizens!!
It was, at one time, a great city
the inner suburbs ( Gates, Greece etc. also have high crime rates )
Rochester New York may be a nice small city to visit-I will never want to live there!🤥
Don’t go out and night
The City Of Rochester ..."A City In DECAY"
Wrong ! I have lived in the city 59 years. Not a single thing has ever happened... Not to mention 90% of Rochester is suburban living.
My first apartment was at the corner of East Main and Akron, right near where this video started.
I knew my city was bad but wasn't aware it was this bad
Its not getting safer thats for sure
@@risingcrimenews You're right. Glad I'm older so I'm less out in the streets doing nothing
Diversity is not our biggest strength🤷🏻♂️
"Summer of Floyd", not the year of insurrection? Fascist much?!?!
You need to tread carefully when talking about murder rates and the Clintons. I was relieved to realise you meant the area not the family.
Which do you think has the higher body count?
Really?
@@risingcrimenews Too close to call.
Baton Rouge LA had freakin 130 homicides smh.
What’s the numbers on break ins and property crime? Car vandalism and theft? Typically murders are among gangs and drugs-usually doesn’t affect innocent bystanders. But property crime and vandalism does affect the innocent quite a lot.
i love reading the comments and alot of the people probably hasn't been to Rochester NY I'm originally from Boston Massachusetts but i move here in 2016 and Rochester is changing alot specially the downtown area with all the construction going on
So its getting better?
I live in Rochester now, they keep building loft and luxury apartments downtown but I'm not sure where they are going to find the people to live in them.
@@kevinonthank The Governor will likely fill them with people coming from the border same as Adams is doing in NYC. They won't stay vacant
@@risingcrimenewsno mostly Asian people live in them and white people. You can’t walk in the buildings without security guards stopping you. I’ve delivered to most of them.
We get busy in Rochester 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
These statistics are very wrong, before floyed the average was around 50-85 homicides a year. Sometimes dropping as low as 40. Never have we had 15 a year, maybe in the 19 hundreds.
Correct. I'm from the area and for as long as I can remember Rochester averaged about 1 murder per week.
I never said 15 murders I stated that the MURDER RATE was 15. Thats murders per 100,000 people. Sorry if it was confusing
Your video gives mr motion sickness, i wish you wouldnt do this :(
yeah, trying new ways to show the city. I know that its rough sometimes. I'll keep trying other ways. thanks
What about Joseph Ave?
I've been downtown to get a garbage plate or see an Amerks game. No fear.
The mere fact that the 45th , president doesn’t even want to keep the Affordable Care Act for all of the people in Rochester N.Y. ….. people really need to do their homework 📚 before VOTING !!
Thanks
Things are going back to how they were in the 1990's before Mayor Johnson. He lowered the crime. Johnson began forming community with Empowerment Teams and Community Oriented Policing. He got people working with Rochester Works jobs program, as the criminals were illiterate and couldn't get jobs, but the core issue of the city school district wasn't fixed. The district ranks last among the state's five largest school districts with English proficiency of 11.4 percent, and 10.7 percent proficiency in math.
Robert Duffy undid many of the changes he had introduced, doing his best to stamp out community, so it was only a matter of time before the crime rate shot up. Robert Duffy favorite bar was shot up and closed. But the shooters were donors to the republican party so the murder scene was cleaned of witnesses.
So certain neighborhoods have a propensity for violence.
Looks rough, just the state of those roads is a bad omen.
Welcome to the ROC
Present for support
Mr. Presentdent!
🗣BROOKLYN!!💥💥💥💥
Wtf is mayor's height?😖
Democrat ran city
If you want to know who runs a city, just look at the crime stats
Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, Kentucky, West Virginia, Alabama= all on the bottom of every quality of life indicator.
@@risingcrimenews - Does that include meth, fentanyl and opioids rates/overdoses as well?
Like republicans are any damned better!
Great im going there next month
Head on a swivel
Did you end up going there? If so what are ur thoughts?
Rochester I member for two things: 1) Former global headquarters for Eastman-Kodak. 2) Serial killer Arthur Shawcross, who murdered his grandparents when he was a kid, and served minimal jail time--then became "The Genesee River Killer" who murdered 14 women.
Love,
David
I've never heard of Shawcross. Thanks for sharing that. More reasons to stay out of Rochester
Shawcross was my neighbor, and we had no idea.
Eastman Kodak is still headquartered in Rochester. It is no longer a Fortune 500 company due to its mismanagement over the past two decades.
Shawcross didn’t murder his grandparents. He murdered 2 children in WaterTown. He was sent to prison. The families of the children were never notified of his release. One of those families relocated to Rochester.
He then murdered 11 prostitutes in 88-90.
I know the family of one of the children he murdered.
This video is wack. You chose some google street view of a beat up area. I live here and have been really well traveled across America. We have huge lush parks of open grasslands and trees every couple of miles. Large areas of nightlife, some of the best colleges in America. This has led to a diversity that you couldn’t even imagine. We have a food culture here that covers every country casually in every neighborhood. Nobody really cares who or what you are as long as you are respectful. Of course we have a few no go zones, and the nightlife areas can get wild, but it’s not like most places these days. Sure it’s hood, but this is just pointing out the bad parts.
I'm about to move here in September. Is it really that bad? I'm a PhD student at UoR.
Yeah, its getting worse every year. I'm sure there are safer areas you can find though
Just mind your business and stay out of bad areas you’ll be fine I’ve lived here my whole life and I feel pretty safe
Rochesters always been progressive and gets more accessible and safer by the year, if you’re brainwashed enough to listen to some curated UA-cam channel without fact checking or considering all other factors then maybe you shouldn’t be moving at all
@@AllsWellInHell just stating the stats
Move to a surrounding town like Fairport. I moved there to put my children in a great school district. They've since graduated and we moved to the south. It's a great town to live in.
My parents are from Elmira NY and I just got done with a job in Utica NY. Both towns are Way better! I drove around Rochester when driving to Erie PA and back. Only time I got on the highway and paid the tolls. Got to ask- why are you driving around these slums? Well, stay safe out there!
People need to know what these places are really like. Maybe in some small way it will help create some change for the better in some of these places
thank you, it is unsafe!

No its not nothing wrong with it fool of crap 😅
Clinton not dat bad
Democrat run. Democrat city. Democrat state. I pray for the police it’s the citizens that vote these democrats in.
Like republicans are any damned better. Look at West Virginia, republican run and one of the poorest states in the country.
America just has poor leadership. Republican states are the poorest, high in crime, mental illness, and suicide. They only operate with funds made from democratic states. They get those funds and pocket it. The world is falling apart under the leadership of The West, yet they still see themselves as good leaders, when even the climate is showing that they are not.
Parties don't matter Americans are just bad leaders.
Smug city
