I didn't look at any reviews other than what was on AliExpress when I ordered mine. It shows it went through customs a few days ago, so hopefully I should have it soon. I probably should have watched vids like this beforehand, but at $23 after taxes I wasn't really worried if it ended up being less than my other BFS reels. Looks like it's pretty good though, can't wait for it to come in. I also have a 5'5" telescopic UL rod coming to put it on (if I don't slap it on another rod I already have). I figure if they both end up being nice, it would make an amazing glovebox combo.
Hey brunnen! The castx is a great budget reel by all means. Very smooth and it’s kind of crazy what you get for the price. It won’t cast super light lures say under 2g but most people don’t mind. If you do want to look at sub 2g casting then the Soloking Acura pro is a great choice as it can cast under 1g with the right rod. I gabe used this rewl for a few weeks now and I cam say its veey good for thr price and wouldnt hesitate to recommend it as a first BFS reel or even to perhaps use on a 2nd setup.

Several other interesting competitive clones are on AE as well, I just ordered one of them. Did you ever measure the wormshaft bearing/bushing on full takedown? Could you share which one(s) was confirmed a bearing or bushing, and if so what dimensions if you took them?

Great teardown.Only thing this reel has is my pet hate,those handle drag star assembly that incorporates the spring and nut.They get wobbly and quite often to get the play out of them you have to tighten them right down and end up not being able to back the drag right off . I can't work out why they don't stick to the simpler design with the metal cup/and those springy ear types things .

Hey Jimon! To be honest I am not quite sure =\. I don’t think this sound of the thumb bar is created by the actual thumb bar. Instead, I believe it’s made by a spring and bar that are inside of the reel. I don’t know if they are customizable easily as well as I don’t know if you can swap the thumb bar. Sorry about that but I don’t know of any aftermarket brands that make these for the castx. Cheers my friend!

Hey Nick! You know I didn’t check with the deeper spool but I will later today when I get back from my outing. Seeing as this reel is only $37 USD I kind of chalk it up to the “it’s cheap” mentality. People using the DWU variants also get their line caught between the spool and frame so it’s not quite a deal breaker especially considering the prices these reels are commanding. I know I know it’s a pita but we’re also not paying hundred of dollars for these pieces of equipment. I’ll share this finding with the seller and hopefully they can make some changes down the road to help make these reels better. Thanks for sharing and cheers my friend!
For your opinion this is a better reel or Castfanatic B1? I use now Soloking Acura and Soloking BMC 100. The BMC 100 is my favourite, super easy to use without birdnest's.

Hey Carlos! Wow didn’t even know that existed until you mentioned it! It must be fairly new as it looks like it’s based off of another frame that only had a deep spool option prior. It does seem a bit heavier than the Mansory but it does look to be comparable in specs. The frame looks to be different as well and lighter than the cast-x with a shaftless spool design. Theoretically, this looks to be superior to the cast-x but who knows in practice. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! Cheers Carlos!
Hey Tauf! I would probably pair this with a UL, L or ML depending on the spool. That being said going by action alone isn’t really the best. Instead I would probably go by the lure weight rating. With the shallow spool you can probably safely do 1.5-2g on the low end up to around 10g on the higher end. With the deeper spool I am not sure as I have not used that yet but likely you can go up to around 15g to maybe(?) 20g. Hope that helps and cheers!

I was having an issue where the spool tension would act almost like an on/off switch and it just wouldn’t cast far for me… others though were having really good experiences with theirs so I didn’t post my video because I wasn’t quite sure if mine was a one off… The cast-x is a great reel for the $20 they ask but it’s also not quite a 1g bfs reel. It’s more like a 2.5-3g and up bfs reel. Anywho, that’s why I have no Mansory video sadly =\. Thanks for the question my friend and cheers!

Also, I have not used any budget reels from okuma or abu garcia and am not aware of any bfs budget reels from those two companies. I do think the cast-x is a decent reel for around $20 USD. Imho, it should be used for lures weighing around 2.5g and above however it may be able to do down to 1g with the right rod but not for very far. I hope that helps! Cheers!

Hey janoy! Easily I would swap the handle. It won’t change the weight and might even make it a bit lighter. They use a fairly large handle length, if I had to guess the original is maybe 90mm? I’d swap it out for something like an 80mm make it feel more “bfs” like. Cheers my friend!
Hey Eric! Thanks for the question! What happened with the Mansory is basically that my copy was absolutely horrid… and I wasn’t quite sure that mine was just a lemon or if all mansory’s are like that. So, I sort of just waited and watched to see what others were saying about their copies. It seems like most people love theirs so I didn’t bother making a video to share my horrible experience with this reel. I mostly chalked it up my copy being defective. What I experienced with mine was basically just really poor casting due to how my spool tension was working. Basically, the spool tension had no fine tune adjustment and was either too tight or too loose. Very odd and I’ve never experienced this before in any other reel. I did take it apart to inspect it and I even swapped in the castx spool, which worked fine, but could not identify the issue. So… I was at a bit of an impasse. Since then, I’ve just moved on and decided not to really endorse or mar the Mansory and chalk mine up to a one off… not quite sure what else to do frankly. Sorry if that dashes your hopes to see a Mansory review on the channel but this time it doesn’t seem like one will make it. Let me know what you think, happy new year and cheers my friend!

This construction looks 95% the same as my budget okuma ceymar ODT BFS. One nicer touch about this is the extra pinion bearing. They are both baitcaster reels with shallow spool added. However the cast x also has better brakes and not over greased! This reel literally costs the same as a box of dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts. There’s videos that’s proven it can cast 1.5g at least 12 metres!

The gap between the spool and the frame threw me off. Is it the same with the deeper spool? It'll be a pain if you use thin braid lines with it.

Hey janoy! Easily I would swap the handle. It won’t change the weight and might even make it a bit lighter. They use a fairly large handle length, if I had to guess the original is maybe 90mm? I’d swap it out for something like an 80mm make it feel more “bfs” like. Cheers my friend!
where is the mansory review?
Hey Eric! Thanks for the question! What happened with the Mansory is basically that my copy was absolutely horrid… and I wasn’t quite sure that mine was just a lemon or if all mansory’s are like that. So, I sort of just waited and watched to see what others were saying about their copies. It seems like most people love theirs so I didn’t bother making a video to share my horrible experience with this reel. I mostly chalked it up my copy being defective. What I experienced with mine was basically just really poor casting due to how my spool tension was working. Basically, the spool tension had no fine tune adjustment and was either too tight or too loose. Very odd and I’ve never experienced this before in any other reel. I did take it apart to inspect it and I even swapped in the castx spool, which worked fine, but could not identify the issue. So… I was at a bit of an impasse. Since then, I’ve just moved on and decided not to really endorse or mar the Mansory and chalk mine up to a one off… not quite sure what else to do frankly. Sorry if that dashes your hopes to see a Mansory review on the channel but this time it doesn’t seem like one will make it. Let me know what you think, happy new year and cheers my friend!

Hey Sanotsuke! On paper it’s a home run! I have a copy that I’ll be putting a video out on soon. Found some interesting things… might just be my copy… but I will share my findings nevertheless. Sorry I can’t be more forthcoming just yet. Hopefully I’ll get that video on soon!
This construction looks 95% the same as my budget okuma ceymar ODT BFS. One nicer touch about this is the extra pinion bearing. They are both baitcaster reels with shallow spool added. However the cast x also has better brakes and not over greased! This reel literally costs the same as a box of dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts. There’s videos that’s proven it can cast 1.5g at least 12 metres!

Hey Bruce! Yep! A 5mm is what will fit there. I think the measurements were 5mm ID x 9mm OD x 3mm width. Hope that helps and cheers!

197g for a bfs reel much heavy and 8kg break total overkill and if you have 2 upgrade bearings cant be a king xD kingdom micro monster out of the box 1,2g spoon 2 the moon thats a king
Hey Soren! I agree with you on your assessment but you have to take into account that this reel costs $37 USD and is half the price of a micromonster or dark wolf ultra variant. Very impressive to see this kind of value in a reel. Cheers my friend!

That’s probably a close assessment for sure! They do have the double spool option which kind of lends to that theory. Also, the reel is a bit on the larger side. Cheers my friend!
