- Ravi Shastri, Shivlal Yadav and Sivarama spin a web around the Aussies on Day 1 of the MCG test. Shastri remembered this and ensured Ashwin bowled early on in the 2020 MCG test

What a good slip catch by Kapil, a fielding all rounder too.
India should have easily won this Test match and the series. India needed 126 runs in 25 overs. Kris Srikkanth showed good intent and scored 38 runs of 61 balls. But after he got out, Gavaskar scored just 8 runs off 54 balls and Amarnath scored only 3 runs off 27 balls. So basically Gavaskar and Amarnath scored only 11 runs in 14 overs. Their slow batting cost India the match and series.
Still people believe that Kapil Dev was an inspiried leader just because under him we won the World Cup in 1983.I remember so many times we lost close one day internationals when he was the leader especially against Pakistan in Sharjah or in India in 1987.Also the Bengaluru test against Pakistan in 1987 was lost due to poor captaincy of Kapil Dev.
Today they would have made the sane 126 in 10 overs
In fairness to India from memory after tea on the last day rain came and washed out the final session. For a 0-0 series, India absolutely dominated the Aussies in this 3-test leg. Then in India later in 1986, it was 0-0-1 with the tied test!
This was David Hookes last test for Australia.
Man... If this was first day of the Test ... Can't imagine what happened in 4 th innings
legendary aussie umpiring at its best....pun certainly intended...😂😂😂
Well said. Well, if LBW at 6.00 is not out, then what is an LBW?
Pre Neutral umpire era, umpiring was biased all over the World, but it was just the Asian umpires who were accused of being biased.
Super upload
India should have won this test comfortably, had Kirmani not dropped Border. In the end rain stopped India's chase. It was most disappointing as an Indian fan not to witness a historic first series win in Australia that year in 1985 as ours was the more dominant team.
Fair point- India should have won the series comfortably. Some dropped catches, bad weather and terrible umpiring stopped them. This was the match Bruce Reid edged a ball to slip and was given not out
And surprisingly if Australia had a better wicket keeper to spin than Wayne Phillips they could have stumped a number of Indian batsmen and won at least one test. It was a combination of the weather that denied Indian victory as well as Border's 163 in the 2nd innings of this test match.
3 Spinners in MCG,wow!
Requesting one very rare sight in test cricket sunil Gavaskar clean bowled in both innings in this test.
I remember that test match, the ghost came to my mind even during that 2021 MCG test, one of the poorest captaincy ever seen by India and also worst ever umpiring. Even at Chennai when we listen to ABC radio, they were telling rain will come after tea, but strange Kapil who was at the ground told in post match presentation - he was not aware of any rain forecast.
During those days the rain gods played havoc with Indian team and never ever let us win 😢
In Au, RSA, Eng….the moment we came close to victory as a kid I remember many matches got rained out combined with a master class performance by 1 opposition player and that’s it, we used to kiss goodbye to the match/series. Thank god at least nowadays we are winning without the weather gods curse.
Title india spin web around is also excellent
Extremely dangerous and courageous close in fielding, when long-hops are being bowled.
DAVID BOON IS SUCH A WONDETFUL GENTLEMAN.

Waugh made a lot of sacrifices to keep playing test cricket - the mullet had to go 😂🤣
The umpiring was substandard....main reason why India couldn't win the MCG test
Ravi shastri a very good cricketer , initially he was the one who used to dive
Nice cricket
Poor tactics by india. Even though there was rain forecast on the final day india took 25 overs to score 57 runs chasing 128.
Exactly. Too much defensive batting from the start by Gavaskar slowed the chase down despite Kapil Dev as captain had told all in the dressing room to take the offensive.
Nostalagia
Both Shivas playing here could have done more with their talents
🇮🇳INDIA CAME VERY CLOSE TO WINNING THE THIRD TEST OF THIS 1985-86 SERIES DOWN UNDER AT SYDNEY ALSO BUT 🇦🇺AUSSIE SKIPPER ALLAN BORDER STOOD LIKE A ROCK IN FRONT OF ALL ODDS ON A WEARING AND TEARING 5TH DAY PITCH....A SERIES THAT 🇮🇳INDIA SHOULD HAVE WON 2-0 HANDS DOWN....ENDED 0-0!!🤔🤨🧐
This was the shittest Australia team of all time, how the fuck you guys didn’t win……
Bad tactics and rain prevented INDIA from winning this test match and the famous umpiring of AUSTRALIA 😉😉😉
Beer Boon is hilarious 😂
Although this and the 1986-87 touring party was perhaps the weakest Australian squad India played against till 2007, this series should've been won by India 2-0, particularly the Sydney test where Kapil Dev on a spinner's wicket scalped out 9 wickets and this where India scored in excess of 600 and imposed a follow-on upon the home team. It could very well have been India's first ever series win under Kapil Dev.
Boon not happy with Ravi, got different feelings on him
SHIVLAL YADAV WAS MUCH BETTER THAN SHASTRI
