I was good friends with the inventor of the BCR, wayne renga. Unfortunately he passed away a couple years ago but I used to help him make BCRs in his basement and repair trains. Great product
Oh wow that interesting and sad that he passed away. It’s definitely a great product! Thanks Zaine!
the real trick is do not turn up the transformer power high right off do it slow on proto 1 but you are so right everything is much better enjoy
Ok now I have to do this to all my PS2 loco’s!!
wait til they die bro then do it! lol
Bought several of these because of your recommendation. I have a PS 1 MTH Big Blow with mediocre sound it - now sounds better than new. Thanks - it smokes up the room and is beautifully loud.
Great demonstration Nick. I replaced the battery in my Texas Special F3.
Cool thanks Al! These are a lifesaver for older MTH engines!
Those older Mth Rs-3s are some of the best deals on the market. You can get the ps2 ones for around $125-175 all day long!
yep! you're correct I snagged this one for $150 bucks!
Very cool. That RS-3 was a great find Nick! If you’re ever looking to sell it, I’d take it off your hands! 😂 Need a locomotive like that to pull my military train.
Thanks Phillip! lol the rs3 is a nice engine, I might weather it!
@PghTrainFanatic very nice! I like to see you do a review on the BCR with the plug. My PS2 engines have a blue pack in them.
I think My Q2 has the BCR2. They replace the blue plastic wrapped AA and AAA style batteries in MTH locos.
I just used the BCR2 for a subway set. I was shocked by the size of the unit. Its 3/4 the size of the original battery, very tiny.
Great tip. MTH gets a bad rep because people do not maintain the battery in their loco. I presently have the MTH green battery in my one and only MTH Proto Loco. I will save the upload to my favorites when it comes time to change it. Thanks
Great thanks Lance! glad to help
Great info thanks
Nice review of the BCR Nick!!!!
Thanks so much Jeff!
@@PghTrainFanatic Your welcome!!
Great info - must get those batteries.
Cool thanks!! Technically they’re not batteries. They replace the batteries!
Really helps thanks
Glad to help Jake!
Nice video and installation guide! A few notes however, first why did you run the engine with the white battery in it? That's basically a recipe for disaster. Anytime I get a 5v board engine, I always check the battery before running. Second, I personally would recommend not using a BCR in a 5V board engine, its been noted that it can cause issues to the charging circuit. My go to for a 5v board engine (in terms of batteries) are EBL batteries from Amazon. Hope this is helpful!
i ran the engine with the white battery for a min to see if it worked.
@@PghTrainFanatic Gotya.
Nice I have an old proto 1 mth that won’t run probably a battery issue it’s new in the box. I decided to take it out to run but it won’t do anything?
Replace the battery with one of these
Do BCR'S need to be replaced eventually, like do they get old and wear out?
Nice
Thanks felix
👍
Thank you buddy!
Can you use a regular 9v battery?
Is that a protosound 1 you're running...if so...what are you using to control it with a app?..new to hobby.i have mth protosound 1..
This is Proto 2. Which can be command controlled. Proto 1 is conventional only
Every time you want to run your engine......do you have to charge it for one minute???
Yes you’ll want to let it charge for a minute before running it
Hello. Hoping you can help me. I have an MTH S2 turbine with PS-1. It worked fine and then got locked in reverse. I then replaced the battery with a BCR. Tried reseting multiple times and will not work. Everything else works as it should. Just will not cycle to forward.
Hi I’m not a repair tech but to me it sounds like the board is going bad. Reach out to Sid from Sidstrains he’s good at what he does.
I hope somebody buys mth trains
$25 for a 9v BCR or $5 for a Ni-MH ( Nickle-Metal Hydride ) rechargable 9v that has a low self discharge. Your choice.
These BCR not recommended just replace your batterys every 5 yrs !
