Remy has come a long way from the very first video with Ryan Rose. She’s very sensitive and sweet, and if her owners continue on the path you’ve laid out, they will be quite happy indeed. Remy’s old habits and fears are being overlaid with careful and responsive training which has really increased her confidence. Wonderful work, thank you! I’m looking forward to seeing more of her.

I've given this situation a lot of thought, and I love horses. I've owned them and raised them. I love the smell of them. I love their snortiness and sense of humor! I love their loyalty and forgiveness. I have to be honest with you all. I could not trust Remi no matter how much training and handling she receives. To me, Remi is a rogue. I admire her owner and wish her the very best with this horse and pray she remains safe.

I think it is wrong to brand her a rogue. She's obviously had bad treatment and is very nervous as a result. But it does mean she is always going to need careful handling and I'm not sure it will go well with her owner who is, understandably a bit nervous of her. Remmy needs a confident handler who makes her feel safe. Any nervousness will be picked up by her and she may regress.

Thank you for this! We have a lame gelding at the barn we got about 15 years ago from a neighbor that was badly abusing him. He had the wobbles so bad the vet wanted him put down. We wanted to give him a week or two to be with the mares and ‘just be a horse’ ( he had been confined in a VERY’ small space! ) we think he is now about 37!! He had not been sound since we got him) I have been patient and noticing and kind to him all this time…but he is a RBE to the extreme if you just move the wrong way when he is around he FREAKS out like you will attacke him 😭. . After watching you with this horse and using your ‘withers’ approach more in last few weeks….he gave me 3! Feet today,
Although toe tipped and connected to the ground, to clean out today 😳🫣😳🫣😳🫣…unheard of for him! He is so unsteady that this is a 2 person job to trim him and never goes well…he is so terrified and unsteady. In the next few days I will try once or twice again and see if we can do light cleaning and maybe trimmings and make this more pleasant for him. Thank you for your effort and time to film and share with us! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Monumental change 👏🏻👏🏻 she’s still got a lifetime of learning and healing and reconditioning ahead of her but wow wow what a huge improvement!! Jake I love that you use closed loop communication when working with the owner. Keeps things so clear. When working with horses i notice that people struggle with the need to DO to solve a problem or perceived problem. When sometimes the thing that will result in progress is the stand-still-and-wait part of the program lol. Anyway really wonderful job, so impressed and delighted to see this mare gaining confidence and understanding. I have had a soft spot for her from the beginning. ❤

Remmy has really come a very long way. Good to see her owner stepping up from the beginning to get help for this mare. Working with a horse like Remmy is a wonderful experience; not a particular easy one, but what it takes to make progress will add so much experience for the owner! If she can read and understand, Remmy, all that experience and knowledge will transfer over to any horse!

Pet your horse like you are trying to put your toddler to sleep. If the way you are petting your horse would send your tired, cranky toddler careening around the living room for another hour, rethink what you are doing. You can see Remy starting to relax and enjoy her owner grooming her. I just figured out what she is reminding me of. More than anything, she reminds me of a Spanish Barb that used to be at the Kentucky Horse Park. She really wants to be a good girl, and she is really thriving on praise. That little mare is going to give you everything she has when you are finished. She so wants to please. She so wants to be loved. She is going to be one of those horses that when she gives you her hearts, she gives it all. Your biggest problem is going to be not taking too much from her, because she won't know when to stop giving for someone who loves her.

She's a beautiful horse and you are really helping her. I do feel a bit anxious about her returning to her owner, I think she is, understandably a bit nervous of her, and Remmy will pick up on this. When I see people struggling with a difficult horse that is too much for them to handle I think WHY? For most riders we do this because we love horses and we enjoy being around them and riding, whichever area we are interested in. I am in UK and grew up pony club, junior eventing, hunting, I can't see Remmy fitting into any of the sort of activities we do here, even quiet hacking usually involves at least short stretches along roads and lanes, so it's important to have a horse that is calm with traffic. If the owner has children she is not safe for them to potter around with. Just a moment's lack of thought, a quick move and she will be spooked and likely her old behaviours will resurface. It's great she was rescued and given a second chance but personally I am always of the view that if it stops being fun, and one feels nervous and unsafe with a horse it is better to accept it's not the horse for you and find something quieter so one can relax and enjoy. If she was mine I'd take a long view, be glad I had saved a lovely horse but pass her on to a professional who can manage her and make the best of her. I'd take the financial hit and ask Jake to keep her or find a suitably experienced person to take her on for life.
