This is a legal issue. Engage the services of a lawyer. Customary/ cultural as well as religious practices also play a role ( in Nigeria) in dividing assets. There is no uniform approach throughout the country.

Please write a will, especially when you get married and continue to update as necessary. I know it might be controversial in Nigeria, but abroad, some divide their asset assets whilst they are alive. So when they die, everyone knows their entitlement. No wahala.

I don’t blame Vanessa at all. If her husband has also discussed the issue with her and she knows her husband’s wishes, why should she go against that? Vanessa was just out of high school when they married. They were literally babies and yet his parents checked out. The fact that in spite of being left alone so young and sitting on a pile of money, he didn’t go too far astray is commendable. I truly applaud the couple. Marrying very young, having four children, raising a beautiful family. His children came first and it’s possible he didn’t want the children exposed to that toxicity. Vanessa has a responsibility to honor that. People also forget that she’s grieving not only a husband but her daughter as well. Taking care of parents who hurt them and chose to distance themselves is not her priority.
