Why didn't the Toa Nuva become Turaga?

- Happy new year! In this video we look at why the Toa Nuva didn't become Turaga and, with the help of canon sources and some of my own speculation, why some Toa don't become them at all.
n.b. apologies for any background wind noise in the video, this was recorded during the series of storms that hit Europe during December '23.

I headcanon that the reason why the Toa Nuva and Helryx cannot turn into Turaga because they literally can't due to being pre-made Toa before the Matoran life-cycle was established
This answers a question that has been long in my mind. Your analysis adds in the idea of fate vs free will into the Bionicle saga, just one of many deep themes within the decade-long saga.
This is especially true when added on the fact that Jovan's team did something similar in the past to reawaken the Great Spirit, and they became Turaga after returning the Ignika. Jovan viewed his knowledge to be his true defense rather than his physical ability, so he had no qualms giving away his power.
This is a good point. I also feel like the more reluctant Toa from the lore would be more likely to choose to become a Turaga if they were in a position to choose.
I actually did a BIONICLE MOC of the Toa Turaga Nuva quite a long time ago. I’m glad you’ve decided to touch on this topic. For Toa Turaga Tahu Nuva, I used the bronze coloured Kanohi Mask of Shielding from the Toa Kaita series, and for Toa Turaga Lewa Nuva, I used the clear silvery green coloured Kanohi Mask of Flying from the other Toa Kaita series, and then for Toa Turaga Pohatu Nuva, I used the gold coloured Kanohi Mask of Speed from the mask packs of 2001, and for Toa Turaga Onua Nuva, I used the gold coloured Kanohi Mask of Strength from the mask packs of 2001, and for Toa Turaga Kopaka Nuva, I used the silver coloured Kanohi mask of X-Ray Vision, and, lastly, for Toa Turaga Gali Nuva, I used the clear silvery blue Kanohi Mask of Underwater Breathing from Lego Land of Walt Disneyland of California. As for their bodies, I just borrowed the body of the matoran Naparu from the Boxer set.
Nice! When I was reading up on it I found it said that due to their enhanced masks, the Toa Nuva upon becoming Turaga would be more powerful than any other (though still not as strong as Toa).
@@DaBIONICLEFan I used the Kanohi from the Toa Mata 2001 mask packs, not the Kanohi from the Toa Nuva 2002 mask packs. In fact there weren’t any gold coloured Toa Nuva Kanohi in existence. At least not from what I remember.
Pretty sure the Toa Metru also would have optet to remain Toa if they had a diffrent way of freeing the Matorans. After all they where essentially defencless against Makuta until the Toa Mata arrived, so staying Toa to lead and defend the villages would have bein a betetr alternative.
IMO I think the Toa mata / Nuva are supposed to be the most powerful team of existence. For 2 reasons. Reason 1. It is briefly alluded to that the 6 are inter dimensional as per Bionicle G2 and the Journey to one ending. In my head canon, I like to think that these 6 are THE elite Toa team, only to be summoned when the universe is in danger. And Reason 2. I like to believe that these 6 are in tune with there elements more than any Toa in there past, primarily because they are named after their respected elements in Māori with that being said, it wouldn’t make sense to make them weak feeble Turaga, when these Toa are quite frankly the saviors ofthe universe.
I think having them remain Toa as a safeguard against any future threats would make sense, and the Nuva - out of all Toa teams - make the most sense being the ones to do that 👍

They probably would have, if Mata Nui didnt die after 2010 story conclusion. Not sure how much Mata Nui's existence effects Toa-Turaga transformation, if it happens seperately from the GSR or because of it.
