Thank you for this vid…..I’m just starting out in making my own tufts and hedges etc so this was perfect timing! Have you ever used dried tea leaves (from tea bags after making a rather nice cuppa of course….)? Great to see another kiwi making awesome videos…..I’m in Christchurch 😉
@@andygorman858 Not a video at present. But the technique was very simple... for physical roads that you would lay on top of a table. I just cut cardboard into strips of the desired size and shape... and painted on a thinned (with water) layer of PVA glue and then completely covered with the dried tea leaves. Put aside to dry. The PVA as it dried will warp the cardboard... so the fix to this is to then paint the underside with the thinned PVA too and it will then warp straight. To finish off I lined the edges with some static grass flock with the PVA mix again, just to help the road blend in to the table... I also added to the center of road to add cart wheel track look. If adding to a table /diorama surface directly then simply paint on the PVA where you want to add the roads and sprinkle on the dried tea leaves.. more recently I have been mixing the dried tea leaves with tile grout powder... the moisture in the thinned PVA will set the tile grout solid giving a very strong impervious surface. I'll be doing a video of this in the near future as I elaborate on making modular terrain boards. Cheers

There are static grass flocks from various suppliers at varying prices, various brands and forms of 'white glue' (PVA) at various prices you can use. And again a cheaper variety of static grass applicators are available or you can DIY them yourself... there are various youtube videos showing you how. Hope this helps.
My static grass applicator is a homemade one. Works pretty well.
I thought about this but was a bit worried I might blow myself up if I DIY-ed it! ;)

Hi Andy, thanks for the feedback. Yes I have used dried tea leaves extensively as a flocking material... often to make dirt roads etc... :)

Does cheaper products work just as well. The stuff you use is expensive and less fun to make.
