Haha thanks Mark, I always try and keep the music fresh. Sometimes I get it wrong but you can't keep using the same music in every video can you! Hahaha
Brilliant video, I have just been out on my local small river with my centerpin reel trotting a float and traveling light and mobile> Its proper fishing and great fun! Beautiful Grayling Jamie.
Completely different from what we normally get to see you do and to catch a Grayling! Brilliant and do hope you do more of this type of fishing in the future 🎣
Thank for posting another great video. These are the only thing keeping me going whilst shielding again. Love the simple guide to swim selection and talking through swims. Nice one again.
When I was a kid Jamie I used to go on Don at back of bassets under bridge We used to catch some beautiful graylings there and trout and the odd bonus big perch. Great content as always mate 👍🎣🎣
You should catch a few if you can still get on the stretch above ball bridge, there was always plenty of roach & skimmers there. This video brings back so many memories thanks Jamie.
@@CatchFishingChannel It's on Ball street which runs from Neepsend lane to Green lane, there's been so much new building work up that end of the city it's hard to tell whether you can still get down there.
you have fished where i work and have fished from Bramalls right down to Ladys bridge over the years and the river gets better just hope it gets looked after as there seems to be more people not returning the fish where they belong but nice to see you out and about and doing what we all want to do.
Jamie.... One of my favourite venues where you fished. From the spot where Loxley joins Don is prolific fishing all along that bank, surprised you didn't hook a chub though, plenty there. Great stuff mate IAN
Nice change of scenery Jamie and a beautiful fish. A lot of grayling in the Don but unfortunately access is terrible. I used to fish around meadowhall area and caught a lot of grayling plus dace, roach and chub but flood defences have made access even worse and impossible in places. Real shame.
Great to see you diversifying into all-round, roving tactics during another (match) lockdown, Jamie! Another quality video and a basic but enjoyable style of fishing I like doing myself when I’ve got limited time. It’s how so many of us started off and I remember doing the same sort of thing on the Rivelin, around Marshall’s or near Hillsborough, too. Loads of little brownies. Although the Don might not have been quite so clean during our childhoods! Goes to show it’s not all about bagging and loads of gear or bait as well - almost always just nice to get out and have an explore 👍 PS. Let’s hope the words ‘city’ and ‘bomb’ in the title don’t cause you any aggro with the UA-cam algorithm 😂
i fish that stretch of the river where you caught the grayling. ive had some really nice trout, perch grayling and i caught rather large bull trout about 10 years ago. i.m off there today with my nephew and brother in law.
Hi Jamie I said to the misses i bet he nails a grayling and so it was, a great video bud, i like a little bit of roving, its hard to beat at times of bordom, i do it on a tributary by me and it always surprise's me what it throws up, trout, roach, perch, pike, hybrid to fish of several pounds, its good fun for a couple of hours. Beautiful fish the grayling and nearly a guaranteed bit when its freezing cold, good job bud. Take care, Stay safe and keep it lit.👍 my friend.
I watched a lad catch a 30lb plus common carp 1/2 mile down river from there a few years ago. It must have come out of a commercial when the floods hit
Thanks Rob mate! I just used 6lb Horizon reel line (no shockleader) and as it doesn't flow much there I used the 3.3m Horizon Slim with a 1oz tip this one mate www.fishmatrix.co.uk/home/product/horizon-pro-slim-rods?c=rods-horizon
Great vid mate, every town and city has little places that hardly get fished like the one you shown. Lovely Grayling worth getting out of bed for 👍🏻🎣. Quick question please i am gonna purchase the 4000 and 5000 Horizon reels soon and would like to know roughly how much backing the spools need before I can put braid on. Cheers and tight lines.
Your right and thanks for watching mate! Backing wise you'll need about 150m of 6lb line I think on those mate but you'll need quite a bit as your braid will only be 0.08 or 0.10 won't it mate?
@@CatchFishingChannel Thanks mate probably be 0.10 or 0.12. The reason I asked is because I am new to using braid I've watched countless UA-cam videos on the subject. But nobody really covers the spooling up of it properly. Once again thanks 👍🏻🎣
Great video. Not fancying the flask then? I fished that stretch from where you started down to and including underneath the road bridge in the summer. Got absolutely hammered with crays everywhere. Good to see a few fish of quality are there :-)
Oh no mate I didn't know the crays had got in there already! That's terrible news :( TBH I didn't know the 'flask' was open until yesterday. They closed it in the first lockdown so I didn't know we could still fish it but now I know I'll be going up their mate :)
That stretch used to be a 4 foot deep stick float glide all the way from the Loxley entering the Don to the wier. The top of the wier is wood and was part washed away in the 2007 floods, that's why that stretch is only shallow now. Lost all it's depth, the flagstones are all damaged or overgrown now, not as good as it was.
Hi Jamie. Been watching you for years . Love it. I wanted to put a video on you tube, and i know back in the day you did a series on what software you need etc. Please how do i find the info and what have you changed since. Regards Gary
Thanks for the support Gary mate! Camera wise I just used GoPros from the start. Now I use the GoPro 9 and a DSLR camera for shooting videos at home. Software wise, for the first 100 videos I did I used GoPro Studio which was free but for the last 300 videos I've used Final Cut Pro X, hope this helps mate!
Great video as always Jamie. Out of interest is the don in sheffield free to fish or can you get day tickets anywhere? Always wanted to try it but had no idea who if anyone owned fishing rights.
Thanks jamie. I have only fished commercials since moving to sheffield but used to do a lot of river fishing when lived down south. clubs owned most of the waters then hence the question about the don. Time to dust off my stick floats again 👍
theres also a lot of red claw crayfish in the don now especially on that last stretch where you caught the grayling. i caught a crayfish the other week and i threw it over the wall. horrible things and bad for the river. i dont like doing it but it has to be done. sorry.
@@CatchFishingChannel Yeah, another great place to go as a kid... buses were only 2 pence them days...and Calcott's would sell you 10 pence worth of maggots!
Trout and grayling in the Don! Wow. Things have changed. Growing up in Rotherham the Don use to be so polluted you could smell the chemicals. Also if you got the river water on you,you would get a rash. Thanks to the EU legislation rivers have been cleaned up !!

Will definitely sort that this year Jamie
