Stardock is still at it 30 years later, not just games :) Anyone else remember the original WindowBlinds?
Those were the days
Yepp
Oh yeah man, used it to skin xp and w7 :)
Yep. Both
I don't know why Micrsooft won't add more customization options to the Windows 11 Start Menu. They aren't listening to feedback from the Insider Preview about what users want. I use Start11 as well and use the Windows app style as I like to have the list of apps on the start menu as Windows 10 Start Menu has
They seem to be concentrating on other silly stuff
Hello, I agree with you. Microsoft must allow users to customize Windows 11 more. If Microsoft would do that, I am convinced that Windows 11 would gain more users more quickly. Take care and have a nice day.
@@Britec09 I keep hearing they tend to knowingly break these kind of menu mods as well after some updates, which have kept me from trying these. I feel they are really trying to be apple for some reason. If I wanted a locked down single cohesive experience, I would of bought a mac. I wish it was as configurable as my Linux PCs would make it a lot more tolerable on the one Windows PC I need to use. Though it is mostly just used to watch Blu-Rays and game backup and storage now.
hello is this software a one off payment or is it a recurring monthly payment....
@@paulblackman9948 one small payment
It's one thing to use a 3rd party tool to tweak things but its a complete and abject failure of design when you have to resort to 3rd party apps to restore functionality that has been in windows since the days of '95- like automatically creating a very fast slick and smooth menu tree of every single file on your system that runs from the start menu just by dragging the system icon onto it, it seems like every update they screw over the start menu, some of us have been using our machines a very, very long time , and if something isn't broke or doesnt make things easier then it shouldn't be changed, as it affects productivity but what power users find is the functionality that used to be within a few clicks is hidden deeper and further away, or in some cases has been totally removed... its about time the codebase was opened up to 3rd parties as at the moment it is a monopoly..
I bought their suite. Love the start menu, fences, and groupy. My wife uses one or two other.
That said, I never looked into this option and how detailed the customization could be. Awesome video Brian!
Thanks for watching
While we're talking about apps that let you cxustomize the start menu we have to wonder if Openshell has been abandonned or if it will eventually recieve an update that makes the taskbar part work once again. I wish they would fix it because i really liked that the taskbar customization would let users upload textures to the taskbar. You could create some really awesome looking taskbars that way.
Whoa, I haven't thought about Windows Blinds since the late '90's. It's nice to see it's still a thing, and much much cheaper than the nineties.
Thank you for the info Brian.
Any time!
Thank you for showing this app. This will definitely be the first thing I install if I am eventually forced to switch to the lesser Windows version.
Just imagine if Windows had these features build in. I bet the adoption rate would make a huge jump.
Glad I could help
I have had Start 11 for 2 years and it is one of the best purchases I’ve done.
The main reason I’ve got the program was the wide Taskbar in W11 which I very much don’t like. So I changed it to thin, like in W10. I don’t need seconds on my clock and I am using _ElevenClock_ which is free and has endless features.
I have the W10-style Start menu with the smallest icons and no Tabs but the apps are in some logical order. And in the left margin of the Start menu the program lists symbols by default for: Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Control Panel and Settings.
First time in three years I'm tempted to insert my Win 11 Pro disk into the spare slot and continue building it over the coming year, so it's running by 10/25. This is a proper start menu one can use; in fact, I'm tempted to download it and see if it runs on Win 10, coz it's not like I get excited when I switch my Win 10 box on, although I've got used to it; whereas I refuse to even engage with the stock Win 11 start menu, period. Then I'd rather start all my programs from a Command Window.
Thanks, Brian, this has been a very encouraging video 👍!
After finishing this tutorial, it's a good time to return sign-in Long-Forgotten-purchased Start11.
Thank you for great advice.
You're welcome
thanks for showing how to configure looks so easy...! great video
Thanks
Title:
Me: Are you sure I always wanted?
Great! Will be getting this ASAP as this looks like exactly what I have been looking for. Not only that, NOT a subscription!! Hallelujah!
Awesome, thank you!
is it a subscription or a one off payment?
👍Thanks for this! Anything that can make Windows 11 any better at all is definitely worth a try!
Absolutely!
I'm loving your other recommendation Windhawk but I'm up for a challenge. 🤘👍
Choose what you like mate, I use Start11
Nice work
Thanks
Thank you its really helpfull
You're welcome
It allows you to make the taskbar smaller (less wide). That alone is worth the $8 price tag.
Free not so much of an issue at only £7
👍 This was the main reason for my purchase.
I use Start all back its the same thing, 1 time pay u can set up similar to windows 7 or windows 10. U can change most stuff, l like explorer menu icons I used that instead but this is good tutorial for start 11
Hi Brian, thanks for the video. I think I'll download this and test it first, but it looks very nice. And yes, I don't like the Windows 11 Start menu either. So it's absolutely great that there's software so you can customize the Start menu and other things in Windows. I remember when Windows 8 was released no Start menu at all! Of course, Windows 8.1 was better, and you could download the classic shell, which I did at the time, so you got the Start menu back. I like Windows 11, but it seems like Windows 11 is becoming a more and more locked system and a less customizable OS, and I don't like that at all. Microsoft should let us users customize Windows 11 more. Take care, Brian, and have a lovely evening in the UK.
You get 30 day to try it out for free
@Britec09 Hey Brian, thanks for the info and 30-day trial. It's great! I've looked at your Start menu that you have, Brian, with Start 11, and wow, what a nice Start menu! It's so customizable. I just love it. I'll try Start 11 first, but I'll likely buy the software. Take care, Brian, and thanks for your videos, tips, and tricks for Windows, as well as your product reviews.
What is the very best Start Menu design for Windows 11?
Been wondering if it was worth getting ver 2.0 and the tabbed start menu just sold me. Thx Brian
You're welcome mate
I use DellDock (Dell machines only) for a row of icons along the top showing different categories for various short cuts.
Nice
very nice programm are startallback!
This just confirms that Microsoft doesn't listen to their customers.
I've bookmarked this and will return later. My number ONE annoyance with Windows 11 is the Edge browser that keeps coming back to life. I don't think it can be safely deleted, so I keep it around. I just wish it would SHUT UP. When I leave the computer and come back, I have to login once again and there is the Edge browser lurching about.
I like the Windows Pro Style with the tabs on it, so when I install it, I'd pick the Pro style and have it with tabs.
I would be blind-copying you if I do this but here I am, and I wouldn't mean to do so, letting you know that.
Will Microsoft stop this from working with a later upgrade?
I tried getting the 3 tab groups but could only get one! On the Video there was a "Pinned" label under the first Tab but Not on my start 11. I'm fully up to date so don't understand why I can't do it. Its a Pity as I really like that layout.
Replying to myself! I found out how to do it Just add a group under the tab and then click it and add a Tab . Bit strange way of doing it and not the same as Brian showed but it works
It's a shame you didn't export a Restore file, would have saved me ages, great vid though.
Hmm Brian looks worth a try and if it is not too expensive though as out here in Australia the prices do not always reflect the price that you have in the UK or the US for that matter. Now having said that I have just found it will not even download out here in Australia so cannot comment any further😒 Well I also find I cannot event contact Stardock for more info on why I cannot download the software??.
thought microsoft was blocking all the start menu apps?
I got used to the middle menu and I don't even notice, but people still have a problem with the menu in the middle? I guess these are the folks who absolutely refuse to upgrade to 11 and are still on XP or Windows 7 I have a friend who is still using Vista, my gosh.
You can have it in middle or on left.
Has something changed from the fact that Microsoft has blocked some previously recommended 3rd party menu software ... or concerns that they may block any currently working menu software? This whole situation seems a bit of a crap shoot.
Microsoft is blocking apps that re-enable Windows 10 taskbars in Windows 11, Start11 does not do this and is not impacted by the blocks.
Start11 also works on 24H2 in case your wondering
Thanks bdsams & Britec for the additional, clarifying information.
can anyone tell me is this software a one off payment or is it a recurring monthly subscription?.....
It should tell you on their website. It should say 'lifetime license'.
One off.
Britec mentions this right at the start.
What sucks is that we need to use this type of software because MS is unwilling to hear the users who reject the new start menu...
I agree, but at least you have options
not a fan of start 11. Im not a big start menu user in general mine is mostly empty. I search which is lightning fast with bing search disabled, or taskbar pinned app click. Stardock's software constantly bugs after the bigger windows feature updates.
💪
Cheers mate
@@Britec09 as always, appreciate everything you do for windows enthusiasts
QUESTION: Will Microsoft in the near future block programs that change the UI?
That is what I heard.
they already have started blocking some windows 11 ui mods m8
@@mcloble4229 That is what I heard too. It is worrying. I will most definitely not downgrade to 11 (from Windows 10), if I am forced to use that disgusting UI.
The start menu you always wanted on an OS you never wanted.
Tell the billions that use Windows everyday
@@Britec09 I'll tell myself, but I'm staying with Windows 10 as long as possible.
👍👍👍
Cheers
Who knows why people haven't upgraded to Windows 11 probably because their PCs are old but I've been using it for a year and I know for a fact that it's as good or better than Windows 10 especially with start 11 added
I just want Windows 7 back
Its not coming back, its dead. Time to move on
@@Britec09erm someone is fixing 10 finally
I have this program but I still do not like it completely.
I liked much more the defunct Classic Shell.
Love Start11, more customizable than Classic Shell
@@Britec09 I miss in Start11 the windows 7 style menu. There are many more styles than in ClassicShell but they all look to me very similar.
Glad that you like it. As I said, I bought it a couple of years ago and I still use it.
I like your channel and the content!
start 11 broke my pc when i deleted it....windhawk is better and it wont break your pc imo
I have never had any issues with Start11 and if there is a bug, its fixed right away.
Or you can get Open Shell for free.
I run 2 pc's with W11 ...1 on default and the other tweaked with Classic Shell and explorerpatcher and the likes. I must say, that when using the default one, I have NO issues using the default start menu ... once you have it setup the way you like, it's 2 clicks at most to get to where you want ... not sure what the b|tching is about really 🤔
Good for you.
Terrible you have to pay to get what should have been in the first place.
Just a note though. If they go SUBSCRIPTION, then I am gone too.
understandable
If you have already bought a lifetime license, the change wouldn't effect you.
I watch from the Linux cheap seats.
Don't need to pay to modify my menu,
I'm free I'm free I'm free I'm free of Windoze garbage.
Watching from the cheap seats.
Windows is not garbage 😂 you Linux fan boys crack me up.
@@Britec09 Well, let's be fair... Windows 11, is somewhat garbage-like :). That is why the adoption of it is so horribly slow.
no thanks dont need on 10 here and will continue using 10 even after 2025 will get extended updates for free here
That would be piracy
@@Britec09 yes i know or i can always use 0patch website i think they give you 5 years extended
I am sorry to say this, but i am just being honest, It is God Awful.
Don't use it then
@@Britec09Its a good menu, Boss! Some people are just stupid.
Download it and play around a little. Give it 30 minutes, maybe you'll find something you like.
@@zootallures6470 I am 100% satisfied with the look of Windows start menu. The only thing I always change is the wallpaper be it on Linux or Windows. I always have my own selection. Og, and I never use 3. party scripts on Windows, to change windows in any way.
