My Mustang GT is also manual and has adaptive cruise control, but if it didn't have it, I wouldn't be bothered as I am not a big fan. I turn off most of these modern "tech" features like lane departure as I like to drive and control the car myself. If I can't steer a car between 2 white lines by myself, I shouldn't have a license.
My thoughts exactly Tim. I just passed on the new BMW 230i and M240xi because you can't turn off lane assist! If you can't drive all the tech in the world won't make you better. Hmmm on further thoughts, maybe the lane assist is for when your fiddling with the enormous touch screen.
Here in the U.S. we don’t get the 4th brake light or heated rear seats. Also with our Limited trim which has the alcantara seats only the driver’s seat is electronic. Feels bad, but I’m going with this car in World Rally Blue and 6MT. I drove it back in November and have been torn between this and a used STI. For me I’d rather have a new car that hasn’t been abused the way every STI has been.
I gotta be honest I love the analog gauge. I enjoy the screens for the consoles and such but something about the screen style digital displays bother me. Don’t know why but it just makes the car feel more like a Subaru.
You know what I hate most about modern car reviews? The amount of time they spend on chrome highlights, carbon fiber look bits and so on. Tell us how well it fits together (are there any squeaky parts, do they look like they're a quality build, is it cheap plastic...) and quickly switch to the actual guts of the review. Is it built to last (is the drive train proven, is something updated to fix blemishes in the last variant), does the motor offer more economy, does it cost performance or add to it.. the meaty stuff.
Your headline says avoid the manual, the Cvt is probably better. But you didn’t drive the Cvt, explain why you think it’s AWD system is better or note how much driver engagement you need to give up in order to get the extra buttons on the steering wheel you want. You seemed to enjoy driving the manual, so why the negative headline?
Yeah headline little strangely written. Still fun review. PS Ok car but last Gen was better. Just get GR Corolla if you want STI kind of car. I will stick with my GR Yaris for a while but would love new Type R next to it.

@@slavstojnic7279 To be fair to Jacob, he has taken on board this feedback and changed the headline from “Avoid the manual cvt prob better” to “phenomenal performance ultimate sports sedan” which better reflects the content of the video.
Great timing for this review! Was in Werribee Plaza Subaru today looking at this in their show room. Looks superb. I can only drive auto so the CVT it is for me. Organising a test drive. So far 95% sold.
I just came to laugh at the title and premise. If you know how to drive manual and love driving, then there is zero reason to get the cvt. There is a reason why 85% of wrx drivers choose manual.
Nice review. Have driven one and agree its fun to drive. But like you mention the lack of safety features is disappointing, and its performance (lack of) in comparison to other competitors means I'm not planning to upgrade.
I hate to admit it, but If I was buying one, I'd also get the auto as adaptive cruise is a feature I won't live without. It's one of those features that once you lived with, you can't go back.
seeing how you use the gearbox almost brought me to tears! One of the best gearboxes you can find used like a bricklayer use the pickaxe! I can't see dealing with jewels like this!
DO NOT GET THE CVT. I have one and it’s shit. Feels like im driving with a rubber band as the transmission (basically is a big ass rubber band in a box). If you’re wanting to modify the car to make more power, you can’t because the transmission can only hold around 300-330 hp/lbft before exploding. Probably the worst transmission on the planet for a “performance oriented” car.
@@JoeNocella well lets just say they are expensive to replace. roughly $10k per trans. They will eventually start to slip. They don’t handle power that well. 330 crank max and thats pushing your luck. Now if you’re just gonna have it as a grocery getter than its fine. It handles really well and is a smooth ride. But like i said. if you’re wanting to modify the car, get the manual. They cant hold up to more abuse and power compared to the CVT.
I just don't think they've gone anywhere in so many years.. Usually with almost every model of car, there's generational leaps - the WRX is no quicker, if at all, than the first model ever was decades back, and that's silly. The auto version is actually slow with the CVT. I just expect this price point to have lush leather, digital cluster, launch control for manual and auto, and a sub 6 second time but ideally more like 5. I don't see the value in it at all, sorry. It wasn't even a shortlist for me let alone a consideration.
I’m not impressed with the performance. At a time of falling AU Subaru sales, they release “performance “ car with the performance of a Camry v6. Maybe with Toyota’s share of Subaru, there might be something better in the near future.
I had an MY98 WRX and it had a pissweak sewing machine sound even back then in peak rally car times. All those farty boxers you heard on the road were aftermarket exhausts/mufflers. So you should expect all the review cars to also have crappy exhaust sound. I was in the market for a quickish compact/medium suv and I visited Subaru's web page and they seem stuck in the past. Their interiors are below average, their exterior design is below average and their only good petrol engines are teamed up with CVT. Even the brand new Solterra has an average interior. All very ho-hum. I settled on an iX1 (but almost got a Cupra). I'm still an old school Colin McRae Subaru fanboy but I think it's better not to relive memories this time around.
