Shepard's pie was traditionally made with sheep. It was probably "mutton"- older sheep. Which is very tough. It was a common "poor" meal.
Hearty and warming when looking after the sheep flock and protecting them from wolves and thieves etc. The meat used was probably frequently "waste not, want not" salvaged from sheep which died from wolf attack or injury etc.
I love the lentil version. I'm a meat eater, however I enjoy many vegan and vegetarian recipes. ❤
I'm still watching the video, I hope your list includes mushroom pate 😊😊

Consider adding about 1/2 teaspoon of vegemite for extra umami in that Shepard's pie ❤

I've never tried vegemite before, but from what I've heard about it I'm sure it would be great in this recipe 😉

@steamyvegan it would. Treat it like salt... it's very salty, so a little goes a long way. :)

Happy to be watching your videos, bingeing on them at this moment, can you e,plain to me what is beyond meat made of? and why vegan needs to use the name meat when talking about food items that have nothing to do with meat ? I love your vibes ✨️

So glad you're here! Thank you for watching 😄 That's a great question. Many vegans didn't become vegan because they dislike the taste of meat, but rather for ethical reasons. So it's normal to miss the taste/texture of meat but still not eat it. That's why these mock meats are so great, they give the familiarity of what we grew up eating but without the animal cruelty. Hope that answers your question! 😊

What can I use in place of the fake looking meat???? TVP?

Absolutely! You can use TVP if plant-based mock meats aren’t your thing. Or just double the amount of lentils ☺️ enjoy!
