The Story Of Noisy-le-Grand's Abandoned Metro Gets Even Weirder

- They invited me back to the abandoned metro station in Noisy-le-Grand, and asked if I wanted to go down the tunnel. Bit of a silly question really, isn't it? But the more we explore, and the more we find out, the weirder the story gets...

The Tim Traveller version of the BBC News theme is definitely my new favourite.
I hope he publishes it on abandoned rugs
Took me a while to place it, and it's one of my favourite pieces of music! News rave!
I thought it was the Apocalypse Rave theme!
There's also accordion versions of Cum on Feel the Noize and Blinding Lights, plus a piano rendition of Left Bank One.
@@mittfh >>Feel the Noize
It seems that your channel has single handedly revived interest in this historical artifact. Coupled with the tremendous efforts of the volunteers, hopefully this can keep going.
I live not far from Noisy-le-Grand, and when I was a child I used to watch a lot of things about public transport in the Ile-de-France region, and I remember being fascinated about the SK. So when I saw his video about the temporary opening I was I had missed that (since it is unique), but now I hope there will be more tour ! And I will go to the exposition too !
He seems to do that.😂
the project to revive one of the station as an art and music place was started years ago. It got postponed by Covid.
there's an English wikipedia page now, I translated the French one.
He's not the one who actually revived interest, people are just interested in general and it's the support of the French people that's bringing it back, not thousands of English speakers that will never contribute a dime to the subway.
"The station that was build for a construction project that didn't happen was then demolished for a construction project that did happen" has to be the most tim traveller comment ever.
I like how you research and highlight these little events and bring them to a bigger audience.
reminds me of some french projects i've partaken in:)
@@sanches2 France doesn't exist.
Would have been cool to actually start using that system.
Only you could make me interested in an abandoned railway I care nothing about, will almost certainly never see, and whose existence or the lack thereof affects me in no tangible way- well done!
deja vu comment?
Always love trying to figure out the background tunes and how they link to the section of the video: “Come on Feel the Noise” and “Blinding Lights” were perfect choices for this video!
Don’t forget the BBC Beep at the end!😂
I didn't know “Blinding Lights” but I could tell it was a particular tune with a particular connection. “Come on Feel the Noise” = "“Come Down and See Le Noisy Station”, brilliant.
The piano that starts around 1:08 as Tim talks about the exhibition is the music that was played on the kids TV programme "Take Hart" in the 70s. :) ua-cam.com/video/46i3A-nInTs/v-deo.html
Thank you, I was wondering about the name of the song because the melody sounded familiar.
How exciting. I wish more UA-camrs could get permission to see abandoned locations when safe.
I don't care if it's safe or not, I don't want them to hurt themselves but "it's not safe" is bureaucracies way of keeping people from discovering stupidity and wrong doing, or just keeping public places "Private".
@@metricstormtrooper I am more than willing for you to go places that aren't safe. Please.
They use low Subskription youtubers to check if the monsters at the end of the tunnels are still alive. This one, shaped like a pile of sand, obviously wasn't.
You could also do it without permission, like Beno
Imagine if they'd connected the residential building to the tunnel so the residents could have their own private path to the train station.
That was my first thought, even without the pods it still could have been a pedestrian walkway to the Paris metro
I suspect there might have been issues with it being a pretty damn long, very secluded and basically deserted (most of the time) place, even if it were to be well lit and full of security cams...
I was half expecting you to find Geoff Marshall at the other end...
Hello! I'm here at Palacio de Abraxas, the least used station on the Noisy-le-grand pod metro network. I'm toold, by the silent station master with no eyes, that a pod is due any moment now. There it is! I did initially think that there would be a lot of pods coming, one after the other, but he assures me that this is how it should be. Wow, that actually physically hurts to look at. I'll just peek through my fingers. An unusual amount of screaming and blood for a system like this, so quite quirky. Let's go.
He was behind all the rubble.
"Come on feel the NOISE" played on the accordion as the backing track is genius-level humour in my humble opinion.
for me the music as a bit to well. especially that part. I forgot to listen to Tim. I was just focusing on the music.
There must be some ferocious cats living in that area. It's hard to imagine such a tunnel with no rats! 😁
Rats need to eat something. There could be martens or bats, but very unlikely rats.
I love your music; your version of the BBC News 24 countdown theme may be the greatest thing you've done even by your very high standards. Thank you! (Right, now back to watching the rest of the video...)
Don't forget the alternative versions of come on feel the noise and blinding lights.
It's the official TTT News countdown :o)
Ok, showing my age here - there's the Vision On gallery theme in there too :)
@@joncrawford3485 Thank you. I could remember the presenter being Tony Hart but not the name of the programme 😁
@@maxvonderdunk6967 The accordion part for "I don't know why!" made me stop in my tracks and have to figure out what the heck the song was.
And then I was like, "UGGGGGH... Cum on feel the Noisy-le-Grande..."
Please release your BBC News accordion theme standalone! I want to listen to it on loop all day ☺️
Try this playlist for a fix of David Lowe's magnificent theme. ua-cam.com/play/PLP9sylNlf_sv0su7jMWvR0XzBKTs6HKjS.html
Go watch Tim travellers other channel, abandonedrugs for his music excellence
I absolutely love the idea of this quirky line - such a shame that it didn’t ever happen but thank you for taking us down there (and thank you for the epic music too!)
Even if it had happened the system had a very low capacity. It doubt it would have been very sucessful. But I agree it looks very cool !
Your videos are the type where they're perfectly bite sized to watch while eating, but so interesting that you haven't eaten a single bite by the time you get to the end.
I did not know I needed an accordion version of the BBC News countdown theme. Fantastic!
Come on, feel the Nois(y-le-Grand)!
Your musical choices/arrangements are inspired! It always makes my day to see another video uploaded. Thanks, Tim.
I know, right? "Cum on Feel the Noize" by Slade on accordion was something I never knew I needed to hear.
Cmon feel the noisy le grand
@@inwalters 😆 Indeed -- and you can also hear it in his video on the old, mostly-abandoned part of Goussanville: ua-cam.com/video/DD_AK9_b8bA/v-deo.html .
@@inwalters Huh, I never knew the Quiet Riot version was a cover. Thanks for posting that.
The BBC theme cover had me rolling. 10/10 work!
3:07 Is that a French accordion version of "Blinding Lights"? SO BRILLIANT!!
Recognized it, yes !
Thanks for this one !
A French UA-camr "Clé 2 Berne" also made a video about the SK shortly after your first one. I definitely recommend his video and if you like trains, his entire channel. Who knows, maybe you'll find some more ideas of stuff to visit ;)
Music choices are absolutely on point once again. Although I will now probably struggle to get Blinding Lights out of my head again for the next week, so thanks for that. 😄
I thought the music felt familiar
"C'mon Feel The Noisy"!! Fantastic choice of music!
The subtle jokes in your choice of background music is just perfect. Keep it up!
I love this! It’s so cool that they invited you to see the exhibit and take another tour. Getting to see the whole tunnel was especially fascinating, even if it just ends in a pile of dirt.
I'm convinced that Tim chooses his music to increase the video view count - because the first time I watch the video, I'm so distracted trying to work out what the music is that I then have to watch it again to actually listen to the content...
No way! You put my question in your video!!! 😀😀😀
It was a great question!
@@TheTimTraveller Thanks for the video response. Of course I have been down the rabbit hole of trying to find out all I can now about this system now.
Thank you Tim, I really enjoy seeing your content every fortnight. Your curiosity and wonder adds a sparkle to the everyday and forgotten.
This is exactly why I love your channel Tim. Something clearly odd and interesting that will carry on being odd and interesting so worthy of update.
Hello guys, I just want to say that I live in noisy-le-grand since I was born and thanks to your video I know now what's at the bottom of this tunnel. Your video is very interesting
C'est un truc de fou qu'il y'ai de video comme ca sur notre ville
C'est toujours avec grand plaisir que je regarde tes vidéos. Merci Tim 😊
Always love your music choices and renditions, but this video has especially good music! Cracking video again Tim.
Wow, spooky tunnel. I also love playing 'Name that tune' with your videos. :)
Thank you Tim for yet another interesting video. Always waiting for new material
I love your voice! Your sense of humour and ability to engage any subject and make it far more interesting than it would otherwise,... you're the best!
I love the stereotypical accordion music, both the BBC countdown thing and especially the waltz interpretation of "Blinding Lights".
litarelly everytime I'm wathing a TTT video I think "wow I love this channel so much" and hit the like button
I can't really explain... it's just one of my favorites yt channels ever ❤️
Thanks for the update Tim and a big thanks for that snippet of the excellent "Cum on feel the noize".
The music is so appropriate. Excellent stuff. Don't stop making these videos.
Loving the “come on feel the noise” harpsichord
THAT'S MY CITY LET'S GOOOOOOO... I don't know who you are but I'm glad someone talks about that metro. Thank you
Well done Tim for helping the renewed interest in this line. Stranger things than building something and then demolishing it before it is used have happened but only in France!
Apart from the very interesting topic of the past's future, the music was closely tied with the context, amazing! :D
My raised-in-France, fully francophone brain: Noisy. it's pronounced Nwa-zee.
My exhausted-by-work Englishman's brain: No, it's very clearly noisy. I wonder what Tim has found out about that makes so much noise under ground?
Me too.. What was it about that noisy le-Grand metro? I cant quite remember why it was noisy..
3:39 The weeknd Blinding Lights on the accordion? Love it Tim! 😆✌
Wonderful as ever.
Thanks Tim
3:08 Tim: Ok, my camera is clearing struggling with this (almost pitch black video)
Background music: Blinding Lights
Damn you Timothy, I always have to watch your videos twice! Once for the content, which is always magnificent, and again to try and identify the background tunes, all of which are familiar yet difficult for an old git like me to identify.
You probably need to visit the abandoned tunnels under La Défense, regarding which there seem to be a number of projects.
Really Tim? "C'mon Feel the Noise" ?!? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Come on Tim, we need the TIm Traveller soundtrack album for Xmas. We won’t tell the copywrite holders.
3:07 cheeky playing Blinding Lights there
Love your videos! Thanks.
I love to see these kind of strange abandoned things!
The music in this video is spot on, well done Sir!
The fact the tunnel was there beforehand makes a lot more sense. Tunnelling is so extortionately expensive that you'd never use it to put in an otherwise "Cheap option" (rather than as you said in the other video a bus!)
I lived in that town for the last year and i didnt knew about it . But overall, lovely town next to a river. Really great for people who want to live out of Paris. Amazing parcs like Champs sur Marne
it was already weird watching your first video about noisy when i just moved here, it's even weirder watching you talk about the very building i'm living in... if you ever want to see the other side of the wall, feel free to reach out! (event though it's just a run of the mill undergroud parking garage...)
A nice update, thanks.
Noisy also has near there the Abraxas Palace which is a housing complex designed by Riccardo Bofill, it's so iconic and bizarre it has been featured in many dystopian films including Terry Gilliam's Brazil and recent Hunger games movie.
It's quite interesting, unfortunately the area isn't very safe (true to it's dystopian appearance I guess) so I'm not sure I'd recommend the visit. Shame because many people would be interested. Similar and also interesting are Picasso arenas.
Both buildings really look like Star Wars cities they are incredible. But yeah, don't visit Abraxas at night.
Both the Picasso arenas and the Abraxas Palace have this futuristic but 80s look. I passed by Abraxas recently and it just felt surreal, I wouldn't know how to describe it.
But please don't go there alone or at night :')
It became a touristic destination.
It was named Gotham by the inhabitants. It’s pretty safe in reality.
actually as a foreigner or tourist it's not safe at all, even if you're used to live there you're still scared lol. and i must admit that it's not interesting at all because the architecture is very dilapidated now everything is very dirty and badly maintained and there's not much to see. but if you're interested in the architectural buildings of noisy there's the high school Evariste Galois which is built on the shape of a clock when seen from the air you can go and see it on the internet :)
@@_tikiboo i am from galois o:
so weird, i love it! the whole town of Noisy-le-Grand is actually really weird, may be the subject for a future video?... FYI, i rode the SK in Shanghai, strange experience, with a light show in the tunnel!...
and an appropriate Quiet Riot song playing in the background...nice!
And this is how you become brand ambassador for an abandoned transport system
As always, your music choice is excellent. I didn't realise you could make puns using instrumental cover background music until I started watching your channel.
So, the rumbling in the background is why it is called the Noisy tunnel. Ba-dum tass!
Tim: they have tours!
me: yay!
Tim: but only in french
me: merde my french is bad
the rubble pile at the end is like being underground in a Fallout game
i love how your describe what happened to and why, lol always entertaining is the Tim traveller
Always a good soundtrack on your videos!
Nice to hear some Slade in the background music.
"And not just because they gave me free champagne."
Well, at least he admits the champagne had something to do with it.
that was a great video {as always) but extra thanks for the BBC news!! that was amazing
Thanks Tim!
Half of the fun of watching your videos is guessing which songs you covered.
I noticed the BBC Countdown music! Nice touch, Tim!!!
0:55 counts as a shoutout in a Tim video! I'm not really sure if anything I do again could ever top that! 😂
Thanks!
I love your French flavoured BBC background music 😅 greetings from Orly !!
Hi man, that's cool to see you here, I live near Noisy-le-Grand, and I slept many times in the tunel. That was very nice. 👌
t’as dormi dans ce tunnel ???
@@_tikiboo ba j'habite à côté, donc avec des potes on se faisait des soirées et parfois on dormait dedans
You've been invited ? You're kind of a big star in that trade ! :)
I lived here for half a year and never realized there was such a project developed and built in the area. The distances are short though so you can easily walk to your home or office without any transport
Wow never I would had imagine that someone would make a full video about the small city where I live
I've been living here since I was 5 and I've never visited the tunnel of the SK
Btw it was a great video you have my sub
c’est une ville plus connue que tu le pense
This made my day!
Come on, feel the Noisy 🙂
Ha ha come on feel the noisy, also loving the jaunty accordion version of blinding lights.
Loving the Vision On picture gallery music!
Brilliant video sir.
'It helps if you speak the language.' English people who did GCSE French and have been to France on holiday, "Un petit peu."
Bonus points for the special "Breaking News" theme :D
Nice followup, thanks!
The BBC news music at the end was *chef's kiss*
instead of destroying that station they shouldve installed a station for that apartment and ran the trains to the RER stations that's transit oriented development for transit oreanted development, and it would mean a super quick and easy way to get to the RER station!
the people living in the houses near this station aren’t that far from the city’s RER station
no with the placement of the buildings and the RER station it would not be profitable and no one would take it because there are already buses going through it. the whole tunnel is only a 5min walk, especially since you can cut the path so it's really close. it would be useless and a waste of money
I was in Paris a few days after that in 1997, but knew nothing about this.
So close and yet so far.
I recognise that minute-long music at the start, hehe. Nice cover! As you do with plenty other melodies.
Now you need to find a way to visit the "subway station, that will never be used" sitting under the Quatre Temps Shopping Center Car Park at the other end of Paris ( in La Défense )
‘Come on feel the noise’ nice 👌🏻
great yet sad video 👍😢
NO LIGHTS at all in the cars if the light in the tunnel goes out? Sounds like a perfect recipe for a horror movie in real life.
Blinded by the lights I see, haha
Great videos.
The accordion BBC News continuity bed is absolute genius. Took me a while to realise what I was hearing!
You even nailed the picardy third at the end. Respect.
@Real Aiglon I wonder why all your comments have exactly one like? 😂
that bbc countdown theme (french edition) was incredible
yet more great music on this channel.
Loved this. Keep it up. Needed the update from my favorite video
