All they can do is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Just have the same, with some new mechanics, abilities due with the female protagonist and leave it alone. Nothing more, nothing less. Just follow the Template of Tsushima and BOOM!, another successful, critically acclaimed and beloved Ghost Of Game. I can't stress on how much I beg these Game Developers to follow that simple and tried-and-true staple.
