      V4's are the only sport bike engines that should exist. You get all the same power as an inline 4, in an engine with much better balance, a more compact package that fits better in a motorcycle chassis, AND you don't sacrifice all of your low end power like you do with inlines.

    I wish we had more rotary engine motorcycles. The engine is super compact, lightweight, dead smooth, makes a shitton of power. The Nortons were feared by the Big 4 on the racetracks.

    I thought my 1976 cb550ss and 1981 cb900c were fast until I got my 2015 1000sx. The biggest difference between the old and new to me was the brakes. The windshield saved me from going over the first time I used the front brake.

    Nice, but you're selling short the enormous quantity of French, British and more monos (250, 350cc...) that roamed Europe in the 1920s and 30s. Plus the 500cc twin from Royal Enfield! Competing in the international 6 days was one the ways the motors evolved

    Thank u yammi noob. Love to see some content on mopeds/scooters. They are the two wheeled vehicles that really get ignored here in the US. They’re still pretty common in Europe. But they are all over the place in throughout Asia! The Honda Cub is the best selling motorized vehicle ever and it’s still in production after over 50 years. Scooters & mopeds deserve a place in the conversation.

    Two contemporary issues seem to have arisen:
    People say the inline-4 (flat-plane) is boring.
    People have started to say the inline-2 is boring (not sure which of the 5 configurations they are referring to).
    I tend to think the self-imposed motorcycle-riding limitations people make consciously, or subconsciously are really the most boring part.

    • @RocketPropelledWombat
      @RocketPropelledWombat 6 місяців тому

      Hear dat, but parallel twins were always a bit wheezy / boring & found in pretty basic bikes historically (i've not been paying much attention to the bike scene for years so idk about more recently). IL4's are never boring though.

    • @exothermal.sprocket

      @@RocketPropelledWombat Why are twins boring? Sound? Torque curve?
      180°, 270°, 360°, 285°, or 315°? They all make uniquely different sounds and have a different torque curve, and don't all vibrate the same way.

    • @RocketPropelledWombat
      @RocketPropelledWombat 6 місяців тому

      @@exothermal.sprocket Also true. They're smooth, predictable, forgiving, (if they don;'t vibrate the same way it'll be due to the balancing shaft position).... But that's their drawback; predictable, forgiving, with a linear torque curve and next to naff-all up top. There's a reason they use them for tourers and "easy to ride" starter bikes (GPZ500 et. al.).

    Is this sponsored by Harley? It is a second hand copy of the Indian! Indian made them in 1901, Harley made a bad copy in 1903, and had to hire Olley Evinrude (of motorboat fame) to get their engine running. Indian even made an electric start in 1914, with electric lights!! Indians had a rear suspension, HD didn't make one until the 1960's. Indian invented the motorcycle carbs, hand controls, clutches, belt drives, HD copied them. It was Harely that had to compete with Indian. Indian was the largest producers of motorcycles in the WORLD at one time and won the Isle of Man with 1,2,3 place trophies.
