I have always loved snow. It covers everything in magical fairy dust transforming the most ordinary views into a mystical landscape that never fails to delight the spirit!
@@ciaranheaney1103 yeah, it comes off as very poetic and the way you expressed that makes it sound so magical and beautiful (which i can only agree with)!
@@ciaranheaney1103 The snow delights the spirit not only because of it being magic dust...it also elucidates the finer details, and blurs the broad-strokes that cause most people to tune nature out. The finer the snow fail, the more stark this enchantment becomes on whoever views it. The air quality does wonders for snow's brilliance and timbre (metaphorically)...cleaner water and air gives only more potency; take two scoops of snow, one from the city, another from the countryside. Even in a country as condensed as Japan, the essence of both is varied: - the one from the city possesses more impurity and finer contamination. It clumps together and hardens, however its weight is uneven. - the one from the country in contrast is uniform; pure, untarnished. It hardens evenly, or when moved through, gives yield with the softness of water.
That's what I was planning back here in Canada. We have the Via Rail. A train that crosses the entire country. In my mind, I pictured the train would be as beautiful as this one. Then I watched some Via Rail videos.... it looks... uh.. not like this at all.

For avgeeks like myself, it's not the rush but it's the thrill and the sound of the engines the smell of thre cabin. 😍 To each of their own I guess, I love traveling on train for different reasons.
For most, it's because they don't have much time off and they got something else planned as just spend the entire holiday in a train. For me, I barely got enough time off with my 12 hours flight to comehome (excluding waiting during transit), I can't afford slower transportation even if I actually didn't like the cramped plane cabin.
When I was a child there was a sleeper train called the "Westlander" that ran from Brisbane to Charleville. And I used to ride on this every year to visit my Grandmother . It was a brilliant train , it had First and Business class sleeping berths , and an economy class seated car , as well as a licensed dining car where you could get meals or a drink , and since it was an Australian train at that time the dining car was a pub when it was not time for a meal to be served . The food was pretty good and it was a real treat to have bacon and eggs at sunrise while going down the range . Unfortunately owing to funding cutbacks the service has been reduced to just economy seats and a cafe car that has a vending machine for snacks and drinks . But when it ran at it full glory it was one of the great train trips of Australia.

I´ve never been to Japan, but Tokyo looks so depressing from air photos. It´s all buildings and roads, not the tiniest bit of green spaces. Not my type of dream city.
My husband and I visited Japan for two weeks several years ago. I didn't speak any Japanese, yet got around easily. The train system was clean, quiet and easy to navigate. Now I live in Chicago and the train system is a joke. People are nasty and get violent on the subway. It's like stepping into a reverse world. I wish more people could see how Japan keeps a city like Tokyo running. We stayed in Shinjuku, then Kyoto. We took trains to Osaka, and Hakone for the hotsprings. I wish Japan was a closer neighbor of ours, I'd visit every year!
because people in America have no respect for others whatsoever. You got people fighting, shitting, and throwing garbage on the train. Can't fix the train system when the people themselves can't even act right.

As soon as you get away from any metropolitan area in Japan, the country really shows it's biggest appeal. Beautiful and timeless towns amongst sprawling mountains and forests. I can't wait to call this land home someday.
I have to agree as well, i saw a lot of storks by the river once when i was traveling in Japan, i'll never forget that one. Goddammit wanna travel there again in the countryside. I love seeing the farmers in their uniform, they look dignified.
There's a whole show about it too! It's called "Snowpiercer" and it's on netflix. I think it might have the same name as the movie you were thinking about but I could be wrong.

I took my students to western Honshu in 1999. It was the trip of a lifetime! It was a cultural exchange with our sister high school in Gifu Prefecture. We visited the school, went to small sumo, Hiroshima Peace Park, attended a party for the exchange teacher from Montreal, shared karaoke with the teachers, went to a karaoke box with a few close friends, visited the mayor of Toki City and a ceramist studio owner who is considered a National Treasure. We stayed in Kyoto at an Inn and visited Nara. On the way to Tokyo via bullet train we saw Mt. Fuji. It was surrounded by clouds, as if floating! A true spiritual experience! Your country and it’s people are spectacular!

I have huge travel anxiety so I love to see videos like this just to see how exciting it would be to travel without actually having to travel! I like the atmosphere of an empty station in the morning too, there is something so peaceful about travelling late night or early morning, like you're the only person awake. Very serene :) We don't have trains where I live in western Norway because there are too many mountains and not enough people - but we do have express boats and ferries!
My favourite thing in the world when I was little was being driven 2 hours back home through the city at night each week after visiting my aunt and uncle
I have massive travel anxiety and just bad anxiety in general. When I turned 25 in 2017, I decided I would suck up the courage and visit Japan (from Australia) Since I was young, I had always wanted to go. I hated planes (even to this day) and I had never traveled in my life, let alone by myself. My Japanese was horrible at the time also. You know what? Not only did I survive, but, I had an amazing, life changing experience. I had seen more of Japan in one month than I had seen of my own country back in Australia. I then visited Japan again a year later in 2018 with a friend, and then almost two years later in 2020, I moved here. I have now lived here for over 18 months, am happily married to a Japanese girl, have some close Japanese and other foreign friends and run my own business in the very country I always dreamt of visiting since I was a kid. The point of my story? Success is never built in your comfort zone. I was so scared to leave the comfort zone of my home back in Australia. But, it’s the best decision I ever made in my life, no matter how uncomfortable it was at the time. Trust me, if you can, suck up some courage and go for what you want! You only have one life, try not to waste it. Good luck :)

OMG! I was just thinking that! I was wondering where the schools and stores were, some of the houses seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. It was beautiful!
Throughout my life, I've often wondered that kind of thing. Like seeing an aeroplane flying overhead, all those peoples' stories linked up for that journey, to then go their separate ways at the other end.

Some people think we don't have overnight trains in the U.S., but actually Amtrak has some very pleasant sleeper trains, and the views can be spectacular. We don't have as many amenities with our bedrooms (and I am very envious of being able to lock one's compartment when one leaves to take a shower), but the rooms are clean, the windows are huge, and meals are included with the price of your bedroom. My favorite train is The Cardinal, which goes through parts of the Appalachian Mountains on the East Coast which only hikers get to see. The scenery reminds me of the mountains in your video. Thank you for your video - it was beautifully done, and made me dream of someday visiting Japan and riding on this train!
I wonder what the cost of a sleeper ticket is compared to a regular one. I've always had to take the 16hour trip in a regular seat with people leaning against me and we weren't allowed to sleep in the observation car.
@@aiaistandley You're basically paying for the price of spending the night in a mid-tier hotel, cost of travel, and meals altogether. The cost for 2 nights, 1 day from California to Kansas City was $1000 (2 people) for a Roommette or $1500 for a Room (bigger + in-cabin shower).

Once we can travel normally again, I want to tour the length of Japan by train. I would not have even considered this idea before watching Kuga's channel.
The JR pass is a fantastic way to travel in Japan. I've been on almost all of the different Shinkansen as well as many express and local trains. In a way, trains like the Sunrise Izumo or Sunrise Seto are better than the Shinkansen because the countryside goes past slower and you can appreciate it. But on the other hand, it's a great experience to take the 320kmh H5 from Tokyo to Shin-hakodate and go under the ocean, or the smooth ride of the new trains to Kanazawa.
The train stations are so clean, with no grafitti anywhere -- LOVELY. I love Japan. It is one of the most beautiful and well cared for countries I know of. I would love to take this train as a vacation.

The train is even better - no driving! I visited Japan years ago with a group. I'd love to do a tour on my own again. Some questions for you: 1. All signs are in Japanese. How do I manage if I don't speak Japanese? 2. Is it possible to do Japan on a budget? Cheapest airfare? Any budget hotels? 3. Best way to get around a city - cab, bike, bus? 4. Best place to eat cheap and healthy? 5. Your ticket was US $267 for that first class train sleeper unit. Can I get a less luxurious sleeper unit cheaper? I would love to get some tips from you. $267 for your own first class cabin and bed and a shower for a 12 hour trip is a bargain. You can easily spend that for an AirBnB and it doesn't take you anywhere.
@@walkthedogs240 I spend nothing in my RV. $267 is outrageous for one night of sleep, frankly. I'd sleep in my car and shower at a truck stop for $6. This is why I travel in my RV - my own clean sheets and firm mattress, shower anytime, healthy fresh food, and can stop and go anytime.
They’re aware how difficult it is to learn Chinese so they accommodate & make it quite easy to travel.
Even in a country as condensed as Japan, the essence of both is varied:
- the one from the city possesses more impurity and finer contamination. It clumps together and hardens, however its weight is uneven.
- the one from the country in contrast is uniform; pure, untarnished. It hardens evenly, or when moved through, gives yield with the softness of water.

What a great memory to have!
As a Queenslander I was really surprised to see Charleville mentioned out in the wild in an obscure corner of the internet.

The whole country is. Tokyo is the cleanest city I even been.
Overall western civilization would greatly benefit from the respect and civility that I see in most Asian people. BTW, I am Spanish.

From what I can tell with all the train travel videos I've watched on youtube, the Japanese have the most stylish and practical trains.
Can relate , I have travel anxiety too
My favourite thing in the world when I was little was being driven 2 hours back home through the city at night each week after visiting my aunt and uncle
And those express boats and ferries are fantastic!

How wonderful for you.
@@sherriewilsey8613 💙
Can you do the trip again and document it like this? So we can imagine going to a trip there in Canada thru train. Good luck
@@benp3485 That was 60 years ago. Better trains, food and service back then. Too busy with retirement now
I've watched this several times now and it's impossible not to appreciate the care you put into your videos. Thank you Kuga
Travelling through the snowy hills was like a train ride through a delicately crafted painting.
That was such a beautiful ride. Thank you for taking us along with you.
I was having some serious anxiety tonight. I put this video on and was immediately whisked away to Japan and found myself breathing calmly once more. Thank you. (:
I also have serious anxiety, it really keeps me awake during the night and breathing heavily and crying.
@@user-charlie2 I invite you to listen to Qur'an. You can try Surah Ar Rahman by Basmalah Muzzammil.
@@Millielai12 Personally calm beats and misc sounds is better for calming me down, hearing a man singing, especially with his deep voice with no background kinda takes the sleepiness away
@@Millielai12 - why would anyone want to listen to that evil, misogynistic, vile, made up drivel
Simply, no country does trains like Japan. In every respect they are the best in the world- timeliness, cleanliness, service, design, safety, style, and availability (good cost/value ratio too!). I travelled on a sleeper train from Tokyo to Sapporo about 8 years ago, also on a snowy day. It was an incredible experience. I'd recommend it to anyone!
This sound of the Train sliding through the snow is a wonderful feeling.
How cute! The train played a musical melody when arriving.
dude, you should have made an audio recording of the entire trip and then posted it as a 8 hour ASMR vid to help people sleep
You could just convert this video into mp3 audio
@Ann Hanover Oh Kuga-san is a girl?
This channel likes to have ads. Wouldn't work for ASMR.
@Ann Hanover i think they are male. you can see them better in a different video, and it looks like they have an adam’s apple. also the word, dude can be used for both males and females, whereas dudette is used only for females.
@@fjp9 Uhm, the only dudes I know that bang dudes aren't straight. I really don't think that Dude is a girls title.
Thank you for sharing, not only we got a feel of the train but also an impression of the Japanese countryside. It looks very beautiful, it looks surprisingly similar to the Swiss/ Austrian countryside. In Belgium trains aren't that clean and as we have a small country you travel from one side to the other in a couple of hours.
I loved the way the windows are shaped to give a marvelous view.
Ich glaube, dass ich träume! So ein Komfort in dem Zug - unglaublich, unglaublich schön.
Trains in India:
Departure: 10 minutes early
We: "oh no!"
Train: stops midway for 2 and a half hours
Arrival: 6 hours late
We: "oh yes of course"
they may be late but they can never depart early not even a minute.
This topic isn't even debatable! Mumbai peeps know this!
That stupid local trains suck
Sucks to be u eh
@Harsh local trains don't run hours late man! Its definitely the express trains which get delayed in India by hours and sometimes by days, especially in northern parts of India during winter, due to fog.
The inside of the train, the stations & the nature: Feels all very similar to here in Switzerland ;) Thanks for the upload.
Thank you Kuga. This video is great. Your cabin is wonderful; the interior looks so restful. This gives a great idea of the experience. Love the snow when you are inside in the warm! In New Zealand, we no longer have overnight trains, but we have a couple of daytime tourist trains through some lovely scenery. 🇳🇿
Thanks for watching!
I'm going to take the New Zealand train someday🇳🇿

That train is absolutely beautiful. It is amazing how spotlessly clean it is kept. Thank you for posting this video. The editing is done perfectly.
Swami vivekananda once said, "The world has never seen such a patriotic and artistic race as the Japanese, and one special feature about them is this that while in Europe and elsewhere Art generally goes with dirt, Japanese Art is Art plus absolute cleanliness. I would wish that every one of our young men could visit Japan once at least in his lifetime."

This so relaxing. I watch this every time I am having trouble falling to sleep. Thank you.
Everything in Japan is a work of art....including this train. We can only dream of having trains like this on Amtrak (USA). Eto Kieri ney!
I lived in Japan for 5 years and I miss trains and tokyo, skytree and odaiba, tokyo station and crowd, shibuya and shinjuku alot! Is there anyone who feels the same?
I was there only one time for 10 days and i want to get there again so badly 😭
I was in Japan when I was a teen & at my oldies now, I still want to be Japanese!

I have visited Japan 23 times over the years for two or three week vacations - and I feel like I need to visit another 23 times to catch up after this years travel restrictions.....
Wow, 23 times over how many years?
@@YamiTheEevee i guess over 25 years more or less. Probably at least a yesr in total. Loved every trip - always something different, always pleasurable.
Love it! I'm from Scotland and have folks over in Osaka, with one cousin living with her husband in Hiroshima. Trying to visit every year or two. Was *supposed* to go this year in October with a pal, but the virus scuppered those dreams. 😔☹️
Hahaha I love Japan too
Thank you for the film. Always enjoy them. Can’t wait to come to Japan again. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
