I first saw one at the Circuit of Ireland Rally in the 70s. It was black, and came at high speed over a hill. It was a vision that I've never forgotten.
This car is the definition of insanity (and oversteer). It's a car that shouldn't physically work as well as it did, but through the hands of even more insane fellas it destroyed everything else in its path and became a legend. Amazing.
What comes to my mind are two things. The first, is if you grew up with old style beach cruiser bikes, before they were called beach cruisers, and turned the handlebars and front wheel 180 degrees and road it that way, the curved forks were backwards and the bars so wanted to flip around to normal position, you had to hold them tight...but the inherent urge to turn made the ability to turn lightning fast. Kind of like the second thought, flying wing aircraft that are inherently unstable, stabilized by computer, but ready to make lighting fast moves if called upon, aided by lightning fast computer control!
it's like modern fighters, they are designed aerodinamically unstable to be more reactive in close combat. Except fighters are computer guided, while in this car there is no other help than your skill.
I am not sure he knows how blessed this he is to be able to own such a legendary car.... man... I'd probbably have started crying a bit just getting the chance to have a good look at one in real life. This is one of my top 3 hero-cars, my eyes get watery by even seeing one in a videogame. Just thinking about being able to sit in one, let alone drive one is unimaginable for me....
And motorcycles. Multiple people asked if my Ducati's okay when they hear the rattling clutch sound. And a lot of the time, the bikes not okay, but not because of the rattle.
That's the issue with vintage Italian. The price of a purely visceral experience is vaugly disastrous noises...unfortunately, another price is the lack of reliability due to the fact the cars were designed and built by Italians as temperamental as the cars
I like Phillip, the owner ... love his passion for this specific car & how he describes what it feels like to drive it. Doesn't have to be a accomplished racer or involved with the initial car design to make an interesting and delightful video. The fact he mentions being terror-stricken while driving it is an honest statement = nothing wrong with that at all.
" symphony of vaguely disastrous noises" excellent - know just what you mean - I had a fulvia and a delta integrale - trust me - the harder you drive it the better it will get - so go for it!
What an amazing car, it just looks so awesome. I would have it white with the Alitalia livery on it, with rally exteriors, and yellow alloys. That would be a blast!
I have never seen a guy so excited in any petroliciousco video like MrToledano, of course if I could own an Stratos I will be felling that way too. Thx PetroliciousCo for all these amazing videos. True enthusiasts interviewing true enthusiasts for true enthusiasts followers.
His collection is one of the most tastefull thing I've ever witnessed. Cars that are absoltuley amazing to drive, legendary in their own way and smewhat unknown by most people.
«Austrian von Karajan, one of the all-time greatest heads of orchestra, and his penchant for Ferraris, especially the sound of their V12 engines, which he considered superior to anything he could make a symphonic orchestra deliver. “There’s no orchestra conductor in the world who would be able to replicate the melody of Ferrari 12-cylinders,” he said.»
Your finest feature to date i think. What a legend! Oh and what a collection this guy has! Alpine A 110, M1 and ...there was something else too. Damn damn damn ... And to the guy giving this a thumbs down - miss clicking this video thinking it's Jersey Shore isn't a good enough excuse. Please repent by watching all of this incredible channel's videos and give them all a thumbs up.
Absolutely love this video, I don't own a Stratos but I have the feeling I could love it in the same way this guy love his car, I can relate to him as he speaks on the video
Apparantly there’s a company in the UK that makes a parts kit replica for £30,000. Not sure what engine it uses though. I know some replicas have part-for-part replicas of the original Ferrari Dino and some ones use different, more reliable and affordable engines.
I've only ever seen 2 of these cars in real life before. One at a car show and one just recently on the road and both times I nearly jumped up and down with excitement. I'm 33, but just seeing that car makes me feel like a kid again.
+TRUNYA1 HAHAHA, exactly what I thought! From the first syllabe I thought, that's Stewie. I had to check the comments immediately. Turns out, I'm not alone :-)
im so jealous its ridiculous... i was looking at the Hawk replica's and after this vid i really want to get one... and ur in NY, i have to see this car in person at some point!
The Lancia Stratos is one of the sexiest cars ever made. I used to dream of this car as a teen. This car was designed by my favorite designer Marcello Ghandini, when he was at my favorite design house Bertone. These wheels were the narrow ones used on the winter rally stages. The five star wheels were the wide ones used on the dry dirt and paved rally stages. That Ferrari Dino V6 sounds absolutely glorious. There is a UK company making kit versions with Alfa Romeo V6's in them. Top Gear's Clarkson and Hammond reviewed a red one and in another episode the kit car. Thanks.
This is the type of channel i have always dreamed about to do here, in spain... In my other channel where i upload these kind of videos i only have vlogs talking about old legends... Hope one day i can do this stuff...
Looks like a Fiat X19 ....my stepfather who was from England had a Fiat X19 that he used to race in shopping mall parking lots back in the early 70's. Always raced agianst the Porche 914...I remember going with him when I was young. He was a great driver.
If you're in the Tristate area, come to a Cars and Coffee in Chatham. The owner usually brings his cars (I've seen the M1 and Stratos) and the whole environment is car guy heaven.
It was love at first sight when we met in 1975. Years later, what has changed? Well, sometimes I look at it and it's beautiful. Sometimes I look at it and it's ugly. And everything I look at it I want it.
When my family left Italy and move to New York in the early 1980's I thought the US was flat and straight. No driver roads anywhere. Then we take a drive to the Hudson Valley to visit family in Cold Spring NY. It was brilliant. The Hudson Valley not the same as the Italian Alps I remember as a child, it is very much an amazing place. This Strato's HF new home in NY is fitting :)
Zio Geo That is very much the Lower Hudson valley in NY where he was driving. As a native of the area as SOON as they opened on the greenery and chrirping birds I said "Lower Hudson Valley 100%" New York is ANYTHING but flat!
33yrs of yearning has also meant 33yrs of learning, learning to build a compartment in my mind strong enough to accommodate the most unaccommodating car of all time, strong enough to keep its passion & my passion for a machine I'll never own, drive or likely even see, from spilling into daily life & making any other goal, routine or relationship impossible.... Over the top? Perhaps, but consider this the warning I never had, a warning of the madness likely to possess u right about here... 02:56
BMW M1 and Alpine A110 in the back!!! How many cool cars does this guy own? :) Btw, keep up the good work Petrolicious, your videos are truly fantastic!
Petrolicious is the greatest car program ever made. Seriously!
+Chris Clausen every episode I watch I fall in love with a new car
I absolutely agree!
Chris Clausen " k m. r
U shod try Dieseliscous! - Its full with trucks! 😄
I first saw one at the Circuit of Ireland Rally in the 70s. It was black, and came at high speed over a hill. It was a vision that I've never forgotten.
No this car is definitely beautiful, a timeless and often under-appreciated classic.
He's so genuinely enthusiastic about the car. I love it
The best car ever. Its beautiful and it's a winner.
This car is the definition of insanity (and oversteer). It's a car that shouldn't physically work as well as it did, but through the hands of even more insane fellas it destroyed everything else in its path and became a legend. Amazing.
In the right hands,is the key some drivers adjusted to it's quirks well while others called it dangerous and unsuitable.
What comes to my mind are two things. My all time dream car!!!!!!

Tai Lopez I've seem most of em
is the citroen ds video working for ya? it doesnt for me but the others do? i do not understand
Great to see an owner that totally gets the Stratos! I am very happy for him.
"A symphony of vaguely disastrous noises" can be said about most italian cars.
And motorcycles. Multiple people asked if my Ducati's okay when they hear the rattling clutch sound. And a lot of the time, the bikes not okay, but not because of the rattle.
Yessssss...but we are the best also for this
Ever tried a real Lancia?
Mmmm, have you ever heard of Ferrari or Lamborghini ? I dont think they have more noise than a maclaren, porsche or jaguar ....
That's the issue with vintage Italian. The price of a purely visceral experience is vaugly disastrous noises...unfortunately, another price is the lack of reliability due to the fact the cars were designed and built by Italians as temperamental as the cars

3:30 What a collection he has!
Not only the Strato's, but also an Alpine A110 and an M1. Well done, Sir!
one of the most beautiful cars ever
This is my favourite car. Period
" symphony of vaguely disastrous noises" excellent - know just what you mean - I had a fulvia and a delta integrale - trust me - the harder you drive it the better it will get - so go for it!
you lucky lucky man that's so awesome.
The most articulate and incredible description - best owner you have ever featured!
This may be my favorite video so far. Well done. Excellent car with so much character!
What an amazing car, it just looks so awesome. I would have it white with the Alitalia livery on it, with rally exteriors, and yellow alloys. That would be a blast!
Such an amazing car.. .. just gorgeous

Design by Marcello Gandini, Torino (Miura, Urraco, Carrabo, Countach, Diablo)
beauty is in the eye of the beholder......
A fantastic car! Lancia built cars with caracter and charisma! The exact opposite of what we now see on the roads!
And lancia now is as good as dead... Unless you count the ypsilon as a car... And I don't.
That's because most of us like to get to our destination alive,a Honda civic cr,will run circles around it and feel safe at highway speeds
Not only the first American channel about cars I like ... but overall one of the best on YT. Congratulations.
By a snobish European :)
Only people with taste appreciates a Lancia Stratos
Joe Bloggs I am one of those people. I love this car. I’d love to own one sometime in the future.
I think that applies to all Lancia cars
«Austrian von Karajan, one of the all-time greatest heads of orchestra, and his penchant for Ferraris, especially the sound of their V12 engines, which he considered superior to anything he could make a symphonic orchestra deliver. “There’s no orchestra conductor in the world who would be able to replicate the melody of Ferrari 12-cylinders,” he said.»
Simply the best!
My first dream car. Thank you guys, you keep nailng it to perfection.
Your finest feature to date i think. What a legend! Oh and what a collection this guy has! Alpine A 110, M1 and ...there was something else too. Damn damn damn ...

Thank you for this video - I once owned a Lancia Beta Scorpion- nice to meet the STRATOS.
Absolutely love this video, I don't own a Stratos but I have the feeling I could love it in the same way this guy love his car, I can relate to him as he speaks on the video

The Lancia Stratos is one the coolest-looking cars I've ever seen! Thanks for showing!
what is this stunning garage? theres an M1 and a Renault Alpine in the background, i want this guy's life.
Plus he's very British and maybe gay. Inherited small fortune?
emjayay Or well paid job, like a lawyer, stockbroker or whatever.
I like the Stratos, but I'd take the M1!
These have realy grown on me over the years. Lovely car. And another great video.
A Stratos, a Renault Alpine A110 AND an M1. This guy is killing me.

Best, I mean, very best channel on UA-cam. Made by passionates with passionates for passionates!
I could have bought one of these when i was in my 20's - i did not - i weep like a bay before i sleep every night.
Amazing looking car. The oringinal Zero concept by Gandini was even more amazing.
I'll say! A Stratos without the cabin.
ulteriorz Lol. Not forgetting the tv/ufo style ariel.
I don't really like it, but I think the Zero concept is one of those designs where you either love it, or hate it haha
I love this channel I cannot say it enough thank you
alpine a110 and a bmw m1 and a stratos, what a collection :)

una leggenda incompresa. Da salvaguardare la sua storia.
Would have loved if you would have mic'd the interior, since he speaks so fondly of the interior noises.
Great video, as always!
Didnt know theres a stratos here in the US....its a pretty kool and rare piece. Good to see an authentic one on the road.
33yrs of yearning has also meant 33yrs of learning, learning to build a compartment in my mind strong enough to accommodate the most unaccommodating car of all time, strong enough to keep its passion & my passion for a machine I'll never own, drive or likely even see, from spilling into daily life & making any other goal, routine or relationship impossible.... so cool!!! I'm ready to devour the next video !!!
Gotta pay the bills. Hopefully this just means even more wonderful content!
he should talk about that red BMW M1 in the background 2:02
If there is a Stratos in Germany I really want to know... I love that thing. ❤️
One of my favorite cars ever...
BMW M1 and Alpine A110 in the back!!! How many cool cars does this guy own? :)
Btw, keep up the good work Petrolicious, your videos are truly fantastic!
This is the most beautiful car in the world! ❤️
My #1 favorite car.
Always loved the Stratos. It seems to have many traits in common with the Sw20 3Sgte.
Diseño único, belleza extraordinaria.
Definitely one of the more interesting owners on Petrolicious, (some really boring personalities on certain videos) & omg, his Stratos, & M1!
...and the Alpine.
yeah i hope they do a video on his M1...that's an awesome looking car.
i found out about this car threw rally (evos and sti's) and fell in love with it ever since...why cant I have one!
Because the last one sold at auction for almost $400K USD.
point proven lol!
A110 in the background!
How could you not LOVE the sound of that Ferrari V-6??
alhalhalal1 That's a V6? Damn!
Awesome channel! Thank you)
"Everything is nuts" could not describe it better.
Top British bloke. Roll your shirt sleeves up and let's go for a drive. Great Lancia and great film as always
I have finally found someone, finally, that shares the same taste in cars.
