His study evaluates the effectiveness of whole-body MRI (WB-MRI) and FDG PET/CT in detecting bone marrow infiltration in multiple myeloma patients.
Among 137 patients, WB-MRI showed higher sensitivity (94%) and specificity (98%) compared to PET/CT (81% and 94%), and influenced treatment decisions in 36% of cases compared to 31% for PET/CT.
The findings highlight the complementary role of both imaging techniques, with WB-MRI being particularly adept at identifying diffuse and micronodular patterns of bone marrow infiltration.
