MK7 Transit transmission correct oil change, 6 speed is different than other Transits, read below.

  • The transmission oil for a 6 speed FWD Transit is different than others. If you have the 6 speed 'VMT6' transmission it doesn't take '75W-90' transmission/gear oil like other MK6/7's, it takes '75W FE' which meets Ford WSS-M2C200-D2 specification for the VMT6 box. With Transits the transmission is full when you see oil trickle out of the fill hole.....but not the 6 speed VMT6. You have to fill it to 21mm below the lip of the fill hole. The way you tell if it's full is by bending a piece of wire and using it as a dip stick, you then measure off of that. The 6 speed VMT6 takes 2.1 litres of oil, that's why it's easier to let the box FULLY drain and then put back exactly 2.1 litres. Here's a link for the Castrol oil, you have to select the FE 75W 1L

      I wouldn't know about the RWD as I've only ever had FWD models. I would call a Ford dealer and check as it does make a difference.
