    Excellent idea to mimic painting by number to quilting by number and also have the pattern traced on the batting itself. Appreciated very clear and precise instructions.

    I bought this at Joann while standing at the checkout line.
    I am so glad I did and I went in for another one.
    Also asked my friend to get who was struggling to find a starting point for her quilting journey.
    Its simple and easy to follow. just LOVE IT.

    The glue from the batting/wadding has come through the backing fabric!
    Will this wash out as this is a gift for my twin grandchildren and I'm really disappointed the 1st one I did I didn't have this problem.
    Please can you give me any advise. Thank you for your excellent tutorials,very easy to follow and very informative too.

      Hello Christina,
      We recommend dry cleaning to remove the glue in the event it bleeds through. Glad to hear or tutorials have helped you with your project.

    She suggested to wash the fabric before putting the quilt together is that necessary I was taught that washing isn’t needed

    • @JuneTailorInc
      @JuneTailorInc  5 років тому +1

      Hi Carleta,
      Pre-washing fabrics for quilting is definitely a personal preference. Quilting fabrics are mostly cottons that will shrink when laundered. This particular batting product is polyester that won't shrink. In order for the finished project to look most like it's original construction, we recommend pre-washing the fabric.

    The package instructions say to cut the backing blocks 17 inches square but you say to cut the backing blocks 16 inches square....which is correct? thanks, Tina

    • @JuneTailorInc
      @JuneTailorInc  7 років тому

      Hi Tina, The backing fabric should be cut a minimum of 16" square. The layers, including backing, are eventually trimmed so a 17" square would yield a bit more scrap. Some quilters do prefer a little extra backing fabric, especially if they are doing some more elaborate quilt stitching before joining the blocks.

    This batting appears to be very stiff...like card stock. This would be ok for wall art but how soft is it for a bed quilt?

    • @JuneTailorInc
      @JuneTailorInc  8 років тому +1

      +Valerie Mercer
      Hello Valerie,
      While polyester batting is stiffer than cotton, it does soften somewhat after washing. Also, the more quilted stitching that is done to each block can also make the quilt stiffer. If you prefer softer, cotton batting perhaps you would like one of our Quilt As You Go Designs in cotton. Here is a link to that video, ua-cam.com/video/ocWNZg9jNsI/v-deo.html. This product can also be found on our website.

      I think that is the glue that was activated when she pressed the white back onto the batting. I'm sure that a gentle washing will remove that residue.

    I purchased this last year but couldn't get the time to do it, but will be my winter project this year. I purchased 4 packages of the hopscotch. I wanted to use them all with the sashing to make a quilt throw for my couch. So could I make it 36 x 48 (3 across and 4 down)? Would that work? I only made two other small quilts for my grandkids but not in this manner, so I'm a little curious as to how this will turn out. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

    • @JuneTailorInc
      @JuneTailorInc  6 років тому +1

      Hi Mary,
      You can definitely make a 36 x 48 quilt with 12 blocks. One suggestions; when you sash your blocks together, create 4 rows of 3 blocks. This way you should be able to cut your longer strips of sashing the width of the fabric and not have to piece strips to achieve the longer length. Hope this helps and you enjoy the project.

    Hi I just bought this kit from your web site can't wait to get started, one question though the instructions say to sew the seams at a ¼ inche is that a regular ¼ inche or a scant ¼ inch.

    • @JuneTailorInc
      @JuneTailorInc  8 років тому +1

      +jules30040
      Hello Jules,
      Thank you for your question. This product is designed to work with 1/4" seam allowances. Because of the loft of the batting, however, this may slightly alter the width of your seam allowance depending on how you feed the layers through your machine and the pressure of your feed dogs. Try a couple seams each way to find what works best for you and your machine.

    • @JuneTailorInc
      @JuneTailorInc  5 років тому +1

      Hi Bessie,
      The triangles are created by cutting squares in half. All of our Quilt As You Go products include detailed instructions that indicate what sizes and shapes your fabrics need to be cut.

    I am having trouble knowing how to use the very last 4 corner squares. Why was this not shown in the demo?

    • @JuneTailorInc
      @JuneTailorInc  5 років тому

      Hi Shelly,
      I assume that you are referencing the "Rolling Stone" block pattern. The corner stones (or squares) are parts of pieces 8 and 9. You sew the two half-square triangle blocks together like you do for pieces 6 and 7 and then attach the squares, or corner stones, to either end of the pieced half-square triangle blocks for pieces 8 and 9. Pieces 8 and 9 are then sewn to the rest of the block.

      When you open up the package and unfold the batting, you will find the complete instructions. The cutting dimensions are in the center of the first side. If by chance your package didn't have the instruction sheet as it should, please email us at customerservice@junetailor.com and we will email them to you right away.

    how do you finish the sashing on the back of the quilt? It looks like it is only attached on one side of the block.

    • @JuneTailorInc
      @JuneTailorInc  8 років тому

      +Sherry McNeal
      The sashing on the back is finished off by whip stitching the folded edge of the sashing to the blocks. For those who do not like to hand sew, you could also use an iron-on fusible tape or machine stitch close to the folded edge. Keep in mind that the machine stitching will appear on the front of the quilt as well. Hope this helps.

    so its assembled like paper piecing? on a larger scale?

    • @JuneTailorInc
      @JuneTailorInc  7 років тому +1

      It is similar to paper piecing, however, you are also completing the entire quilting process of layering the backing and the batting and creating the pieced top all at one time.

    What kind of thread you should use?

    • @JuneTailorInc
      @JuneTailorInc  6 років тому +1

      Hello Maya,
      You can use whatever thread you prefer. Some quilter's are very particular about the type and brand of thread they use with their machine, so it's perfectly acceptable to use whatever you are comfortable with. We've used cotton, poly/cotton in a variety of brands without any issue. Hope this helps.

      JuneTailorInc thanks for the reply! I'm really excited to start the rolling stone quilt, but I wanted to make sure if I needed some different kind of thread for that.

    If I want to make a twin sized quilt how many packages of the pre-printed batting do I need

    • @JuneTailorInc
      @JuneTailorInc  7 років тому +1

      Hi Barbara, First, determine the size of the finished quilt that you want to make. A twin quilt measures approximately 72" x 96". The finished blocks are 12", so divide each dimension by 12. In this case, 72 divide by 12 is 6 and 96 divided by 12 is 8. Multiply these numbers together for the total number of blocks needed which is 48. There are 6 blocks in a package, so divided the number of blocks needed (48) by the number of blocks in the package (6) and you will need 8 packages. If you want to adjust the size of your finished quilt, you can use this same formula. Hope this helps.

    • @JuneTailorInc
      @JuneTailorInc  7 років тому +1

      All quilter's, of course, have their own techniques and preferred methods. Many do prefer to starch the backs of their fabrics in the event of flaking or discoloration. June Tailor's Starch Savvy is designed specifically for quilting cottons and will not flake like some other starches.
