In a pinch, when not replacing the copper crush washers, you should aneal them. This way they will seal like new. A common way is to suspend with a piece of steel wire and heat to a dull red with a propane torch, and then drop it into water. The washers on the VW plugs don't come off easily though.
Hey I just brought my 19" 6MT Alltrack into VW to swap the Manual Trans fluid. I DID NOT have the fill plug underneath the car BUT the tech filled the fluid up under the hood with a funnel VERY easily and said it wasn't hard to get to. I think it's worth a look for you to find the fill plug for next time. They said it was like 2.13L to spec but I had them fill it to 2.3L. Either way, awesome watching your vids! Keep it up
Dude love the content. I have a 19 SE 6MT right around 30k. Long time diyer that's been hands off with this car but might follow this. I got an Audi B5 s4 avant manual i gotta get going again lol
This video helped out since I couldn't find much info for a 2020 GTI. It looks like the fill for the transmission fluid is same as the Alltrack, so I'll be using this video for reference when it's time. Did you set the selector shaft to neutral when doing the transmission fluid? One thing to note, looking at VW's documentation, they recommend a 18mm OD tube to fill the transmission. You might have been struggling since that tube is too small for the fluid. Thank you.
Well done! Could you note the tube size that you used that fits in the fill holes on the rear diff and bevel box? I bought a cheap hand pump off Amazon and the tube was too big. Ended up shoving a piece of smaller tubing from the hardware store inside it to fit in the hole. Also, agreed on the rear diff. Spec says that it takes 900 ml, which is what I got out of it... but when I filled it, it took the whole liter and didn't overflow. Glad you got the manual trans. Haven't seen a video of that, only pictures.
Here is a link to what I got on Amazon. It says it has a 4mm diameter. Large 100ml Plastic Syringe with Tubing, Carejoy Indutrial Syringes + 80cm(31.5in) Handy Long Hose Fluid Suction Injector for Scientific Labs Injecting, Feeding Pets, Drawing Oil, Fluid and Water a.co/d/4F1xdiR
Great video and thanks for posting! As an owner of a 2019 Golf 1.4 L and a 2022 Tiguan SE R Line, I plan on doing the same maintaining care that you do on your vehicles. Q: how much do you think you saved in VW labor cost by doing the whole thing yourself!
@@thefadshow VW in ontario offers Haldex at $139.99 CAD at a 30% promotion. Not sure on the other stuff other than the manual trans fluid which most of your cost is the 3 bottles of Fluid. I was over $500 CAD for this service last week.
Hey. I’ve really been enjoying your content. I just purchased a 19 SEL manual, so it’s all been pretty relatable. Good work.

Why do you not warm up your new fluids? Those bags are super easy to do by just dropping in a bucket of hot water for like 30 minutes before....
In 2018, there was a stop sell order here in Canada because of the brakes. I think it was related to the bleed screws.
Great video man keep it up! "Like a Stone" playing - I see you've got great taste in music too! RIP Chris !
Also how do I know if I have the drain plug for my transmission? Is there a way to look it up by VIN?

Besides the manual transmission fluid service. Would everything else apply for a 2018 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagwn 4Motion?
Did you put the car in neutral when you undid the "19mm shifter mechanism detent spring" bolt?

Great video. I have the same vehicle, but in red. What do you use to raise your vehicle?
Quick Jacks
Very helpful! Thanks
Thank you!
I do not see the link for the service schedule? Can you repost?

My guess is VW would charge probably 6 hours of labor for all of this work. Labor rate depends on area but 100-140 an hour.
