    Thanks, good input.
    The smoke you see is not tire smoke, it's dust from the clutch doing its' best to keep horsepower away from the track at launch.
    The speaker says "it holds, it holds, it holds, it goes straight" as he saw what was going on up the track. He knew well that the issue was that the right lane was not favored as the best lane that day and was not expected to deliver that kind of world class performance.
    It worked out well though.

    This is an excellent pass and congrats to all the Swedish team for raising the bar. I follow Chris Matheson here in Aus, and as you know he bought "The Hulk" from Larry McBride 4 years ago. If you have seen the three best tracks we have here in Aus, and seen how bumpy and short they are after the finish, you would realise why Chris "only" holds the Australian record with a 6.04 pass. (He has many 6.0 passes, but never gone 5.99 or better). We know the bike is capable, we know Chris is capable, but the danger only really starts at our finish line. Last year Chris fell off at 371km/h, just after the finish, when he caught air under a glove on the 'bump' in the track. From memory his best half track is 3.84 @ 205mph, so you can see he both the short game and the long game working.. but not at the same time. I do hope he finds a way to race you somewhere in the world. But not in Australia.. our run-offs are just too short! I hope he gets a chance to take it to the US to race both you and Larry. Kudos!

    No, there was no 1% backup of that run at that race. The 5.70 was one of two runs under the record at that time but the current European ET record is "only" 5.860 which was not a backup of the 5.70-run according to the FIA 1% rule for settin records.
    The team did run a 5.72 at the European Finals at the next race at Santa Pod :)

    Guys, calm down. It's a damn drag bike. It's not supposed to be a "practical" bike. It's not supposed to be a "street" bike. It's built to do the 1/4 mile as fast as possible, and that's it. Would you complain that a top fuel dragster isn't practical? Would you complain that a drag boat isn't practical? No. They're not supposed to be. I'm not an expert, but near the end of the video, it gives the time to distance and speed. Can someone explain to me how the guy rips through 1000 feet in 4.76s reaching 238.7mph, and at the quarter (1320 ft), he's going slower (220.9 mph)? I thought that normally, especially at the end, you're into the throttle all the way, unless you have a control issue, which he did not.If he would not have lost speed, that run could have been a 5.67s run (assumes he held the 238.7mph)

    • @ParWillen
      @ParWillen  9 років тому +2

      The bike started drifting and Peter was off the throttle after the 1000-foot mark. BTW, the speed at 1000 feet would rank as the worlds 6th fastest speed among drag bikes if that would've been at the finish line.

  • @ParWillen
    @ParWillen  11 років тому +1

    Noone really knows. You don't take a nitro engine to the dyno like with methanol and gasoline fuelled motors. Estimating what's needed to get that weight down that distance in that time and speed says at least 1200 horsepower. Some say over 1400 hp.

  • @jojoweasel6922

    The bike might have "gone fat" on him. This happens when your injection system is pushed to it's max and too much fuel is dumped into the motor at the high end and max rpm's. The spark plugs are unable to burn all the fuel and the motor falls on it's face.. It's a common problem with top fuel bikes. Well, at least it was in the 90's when I raced fuel.

      Aw no worries young fella, me, I'm 93, blind in one eye and lame in one leg, but thankfully two hands yet. The good eye sees things these days I wish they would stop showing, so I don't mind resting it and spotting for you, drag racing is good.
      Hey you still got one of those dinosaurs, I regret selling my hand cranked computer, very handy indeed... oops sorry old son, would be hard for you to crank and type at the same time, I should've thought about that... do you get the missus to crank it for you?
      My apologies for messin' with you Bill, the missus and I did it that morning for the first time in years... smile still stuck in place after 2 days... I was feelin' me oats kick in and needed to show off a bit, not much opportunity these days.

      Yes, I know Korry personally and am very aware of his many accomplishments within drag bike racing, not only in Top Fuel bike racing.
      But the title here is "the quickest Top Fuel Bike ET", which it still is as of this writing. Korrys best ET is a 5.789. The speaker was off a bit in his comments about fast vs quick but sh-t tends to happen in the heat of the moment ;)

      Svennson has the quickest elapsed time on the planet and as long as his reaction times match the guy in the lane next to him then he ain't gonna be beaten with that run . And that was nearly two years ago !

    Not sure I would qualify one of these as a motorcycle, if it can't lean to turn, in my books that is a big part of how a bike operates.

    • @proto35
      @proto35 8 років тому +1

      +Mevlinous drag cars hardly turn. they are designed to go straight. some cars/bikes are designed for handling, or speed, or both - the field varies. Its still got two wheels, a motor between your legs, and some serious balls. lol

      FastIsLife No you don’t have to back it up the same day to be real. But to have an official record you need to back it up within the hour...or if it was 2 hrs.
