before the fall our purpose was to subdue the animals as it says in genesis. After the fall the purpose of life is to be restored to the image of God in which we where created or (Theosis).
Everything is being restored to the image of God, body, soul and nous(spirit). We do this first by cleansing our nous. This is done initially by baptism, chrismation and communing. True restoration can only be done in the one true church(Easter orthodoxy), trough the sacramental lifestyle. Our spirit longs and wants eternity and only can find it in being restored to the image of God. So any one, even if they are not Christian has this purpose built in them.
Our purpose Starting last year, I began contemplating my free will. Why was I doing anything I was doing? Was it just for pleasure of the flesh? Was it to impress, to prove something to someone? Was it to prove people wrong? How does one find joy in anything when nothing really matters when dawn turns to dusk and skin to ash? When I began having these thoughts, I was in the midst of a spiritual journey and rendered myself Buddhist. In this mindset, I developed a sense of detachment from material things and an appreciation for just BEing, just living in the moment. I have since been saved as a Christian, feeling Gods presence and developing faith in Him. Since, I have reevaluated these thoughts. As I read and think about the Bible, in Genesis, God creates man last, in image of Him, to herd the flocks and take care of the land He has just created. And when man destroyed the land, He sent the flood as a Reset. So applying this to present day, does this mean our one true purpose (all selfish pleasures of earth /idolizations aside) is to care for Gods creations (His plants, His people, His land, His animals)? That in creating us in His image, giving us this inate consciousness and knowledge other organisms don’t have, we were meant to father the creations as He Fathers us? Any thoughts on this theory? What’s our purpose and why? I’d hate to entertain the thought of having no purpose- wouldn’t that be depressing. Then there would be no point in following rule or religion. I have also theorized that maybe life is just a Gift and our purpose is simply to enjoy- but I feel as if God works through us using the Holy Spirit too much to not have purpose beyond that. Since the New Testament, our purpose has seemed to be spoken to love others and spread the word.
And on the thoughts of absence of free will… I’ve also contemplated this line of thinking, but it begs the question, if God controls all with no free will, why are bad things allowed to happen? At first I say it’s to teach us things we couldn’t learn the easy way, but this contradicts what a good, just, loving Father would do. He wouldn’t will mrder or rvpe, etc. i ultimately came to the belief that free will exists in the sense that we have the free will to chose to let God control our lives as a follower with faith or to reject God and essentially be the cause of our own demise (picking God or against Him, in a black and white sense). Because we have this sense of free will, sometimes things happen outside of Gods will (He is not invasive and will not control those who do not submit themselves to Him). However, as an all powerful being with ultimate control, I believe He works with what He is given, always in favor of what would be ultimately best for his children. And the bad things that happen to His children are not willed to happen, but rather worked with, with the faith that He has built us a future, a way out, where it ultimately helps us (or His creation) in some way. Thoughts on this perspective?
One of the main proofs of the existence of God comes from just this for me- multiple people, completely unconnected, united by a shared experience brought about by pure faith. Those who feel His presence have a mutual understanding of who the Father is, even though they could have never talked with each other before. I know this was a lot but I hope this gave some insight! As a newly saved soul, I have been in desperate search for the answers to these very questions and I love hearing others and how their life experiences fit into my perspective of the way it all works. Stay safe, pray, and ask God any questions you may have- He is who got me this far in my processing of life. This is essentially one large ego death.
You don't need to degrade other religion just to prove your religion to be true . Gravity will be true even if not believed by anyone . You just born in Christian family . Thanks for the straightforward answer. What is being restored to the image of God? How do we do that with our life?
