My good friend Been Tucker who I played piano with wrote this. He showed me in his brownstone in Savannah on his old Tyrolian upright how he wrote it. He was a monster and a beautiful human being. He played on over 500 albums. Along with Yusef Lateef it was a great honor to of known him

I used to think that Ben Tucker, Herbie Mann’s bass player, wrote this. I think Earl Hagan may have also written “Harlem Nocturne”. Great lesson. I love all 50s and 60s jazz. I wrote what I thought was a minor blues, but nobody likes it!

Great series Richie! By the way, for you folks out there who aren't familiar with the late, great Mel Torme, check out his cover of this tune on the "Judy Garland Show" (television) in 1963. We used to have these, "Variety Shows" and they were terrific. Mel romps over this song by singing jazz, blues and even throws in some "Tarzan." Awesome! Almost surreal. Thanks Richie!

Ben Tucker wrote the music👍 Earl Hagen wrote the lyrics. Ben complained about people playing the minor iv chord. It’s not C-7 it’s an F7.

I’ve been checking out lots of versions and it’s Eb7 . Including Ben Tucker but only on the head in the version I heard. For solos they go C-

@@RichieZellon It looks like in piano some guys are playing the Eb instead of the C-7 in the 5th measure?
@@LastCast2011 Eb is the relative major of Cm...very common substitution!
