@@PaulStewartAviation The Qlink A320 has flown Perth to Melbourne on a rare few occasions. Virgin Australia Regional also operates a fleet of A320s, some of these are former Ansett frames. I believe Network expansion with A320s is going to become more common, as Network have set up bases in Darwin and Brisbane, this is a Qantas ploy to undercut Mainline and eventually replace older 737s I believe and at the same time pay pilots abysmally as Network salaries are much to be desired for an A320.
@@PaulStewartAviation It seems to be true. Perth used to have a lot more 737s based here. Once upon a time the handful of f100s they had used to service mine sites only. Now we have f100s and A320s servicing quite a few towns. About 7 to 10 Boeing 717s were based out of Perth with Cobham to service the towns alongside the 737s. Their pilots were paid a lot more than Network. Now all 717s are gone and 737s slowly dwindling. A320 Network first officers start around 90k base after year's of training and hour building. It is an insult to be flying an A320 on that sort of salary. All the contractors are bought up and there respective lower eba's are played off against each other. Meanwhile Qantas mainline keeps contracting. Look at Alliance e190s in Darwin and Adelaide. Horrendous pilot salaries and already reducing 737 flights.
There's something about that takeoff sound from an A320... brings back all the memories of going on an exciting adventure as a kid!! Will never get old!
Hahahahahahaha... The swallowing fly bit! Gold! The lounge looks VERY similar to Brisbane. I flew on a similar Jetstar Asia A320, legroom is tight even for me at 170cm.
Yeh it's all the new QF lounge design which I think is really nice. I was looking forward for Sydney's upgrade. Yeah anything longer than an hour or two would be a struggle in something with such little leg room.

About the only time you’ll see these QantasLink A320’s on the east coast of Australia is when they’re in Melbourne at the Jetstar hangar for maintenance.✈️
Very interesting and an enjoyable video. I wasn't aware that Qantas got in the A320 on their fleet with Qantas colours. Looks great to see the flights and the views. Thanks for sharing this Paul!
So interesting facts for you Paul - these aircraft used to operate in JQ livery with JQ crew back in ~2014-2015 using JQ crew who were MEL based and would do 3 day stints in WA for FIFO flights. These ended up being replaced for a couple of years with B738s until Network Aviation had their own flight crew trained to operate the A320s. They were then repainted in QFLink livery and transferred out of the JQ fleet to Network for the FIFO runs. I've done many of these in both the JQ and QFLink livery to various mines and countless F100s (as I think I mentioned to you on FB haha).
I don’t believe so, up until 2011 Network Aviation was an independent charter airline and then Qantas purchased them, similar to how VA purchased Skywest to form VARA. So the F100s and A320s that run around in QFLink livery across WA are all operated by Network Aviation, but as a fully owned subsidiary of QF, as opposed to say Alliance that runs QF services under wet lease.
Amazing views of Perth, along the flight path and of the open cut mines as you were landing. I love the little wing tips, they're so small! Oh how I miss being on a plane (maybe not long haul 😂🤣), thanks for sharing Paul 😊
Did a lot of flying in Europe with British Airways, mostly through Heathrow on the A319/320. Also done a bit of flying within Australia with Qantas on their 737-800/A330 (PER is my home port) My honest opinion? A320 has it all over the 737, But my favorite is still the 747-400 Longreach. Spent a few hours in one of those.
Amazing video mate! The montage was really out of this world giving unmatched ground view throught your flight. Thank you for sharing your travels with such quality!
Great video as usual Paul. Love the look of the lounge in Perth, even the ‘planky things’😂😂. Apparently being lower to the ground is partially what has led to the 737 Max’s problems. The newer, larger engines wouldn’t fit under the wing so needed to be slung further forward, upsetting the aerodynamics and requiring the use of the MCAS. So while I agree it looks better, the A320 still has more options for fitting larger upgraded engines. I guess that is the difference of 20 years in aircraft design.
Great video that mind was awesome personally I like the A320 have flown with EasyJet from my local London/Luton have also flown on various 737 little to choose between them.👍
Wow this brought back happy memories - I literally sat in the same seat you did in the Qantas lounge in 2018 when we flew back from Aus to Singapore on Qantas. We flew to Learmouth on the F-100 on Qantas Link. Awesome trip LOVE Australia such a brilliant place - fantastic people. Best wishes from the UK.
Awesome flight & review Paul, I wonder if it's only me but I enjoy flights more when it's turbulant, had an awesome flight from Perth to Alice Springs back in 2008 after the Red Bull Air Race, we hit massive sink just after rotating & the plane dropped 50 feet then levelled out, pegged the throttles and zoomed up after regaining speed, the whole 4 hour flight was crazy dodging thunder storms all the way & I loved it! That was on a 737 which I love. I think maybe I like the Turbulence because I learnt to fly in Gliders so you feel every bump ha ha. Cheers for another great video!
Hi Paul. What an amazing part of the world. Great views. I’ve flown on JQ A320s a few times and although the flights themselves were always perfectly fine, I certainly have no particular fondness for or feelings of sentimentality towards the A320. To be fair, I don’t love the 737 either though 😂 #widebodiesarelife
Great video. Thanks Paul. I have flown that route many times in my sim (MSFS2020) in the Qantaslink A320 but in the NEO variant. Was very cool to see it in real life. Another link I have with Kalgoorlie was as a 12 year kid, I was luck enough to take my first flight in a plane with my younger brother from Perth to Kal in a MMA F28. It cost $12 each and we didn't even leave the terminal. Just waited for the return flight.
@@ashleyw8116 …with decisions like that, no wonders their operating costs were out of control. Having never ‘chanced it with Ansett’ I didn’t know they had A320s, learnt something new today.
Loved the views over the open cut gold mine...too lazy to calculate what 14tons of gold is worth today...though it does explain the statistics you gave on the size of that mine...A320’s always lived up to their name for me with “Bus” being the key word...utilitarian efficient design that results in an air “Bus in the sky”...and usually my knees against the seat in front!
You managed to get a departure from RWY24. That's notable in itself - the normal run for SW winds is 21 for departures and 21/24 for arrivals, unless works in progress or abnormally strong crosswinds.

Yeah I'd never seen one before I flew into PER a few weeks ago.
Thank you Paul. Always enjoyable and entertaining. Perth does look a super airport. ✈✈✈
Cheers Tony
I thought QantasLink had service from all major cities… maybe they don’t have A320s at their eastern hubs
Mainly Dash 8s & 717s
Yep they do but the A320s don't seem to ever head over to the east coast.
That's because the a320s are operated by Network Aviation. Qantaslink East coast operations are Eastern, Sunstate (dash 8s)and National Jet (717s)
Western Australia has the toughest domestic border restriction thanks to Premier Mark McGowan
It's true. It's also the safest state.
Jetstar A320 - Snug as a bug in a rug.
Very interesting and an enjoyable video. I wasn't aware that Qantas got in the A320 on their fleet with Qantas colours. Looks great to see the flights and the views. Thanks for sharing this Paul!
Cheers Sagar!
You mentioned you were in Perth for work. What do you do Paul, that allows you to fly so much?
I work in health
Interesting! I'm only now learning about all of these different subsidiaries within QF. All to minimise tax and crew entitlements I'm assuming?
Glad you enjoyed it
Did a lot of flying in Europe with British Airways, mostly through Heathrow on the A319/320. Also done a bit of flying within Australia with Qantas on their 737-800/A330 (PER is my home port) My honest opinion? A320 has it all over the 737, But my favorite is still the 747-400 Longreach. Spent a few hours in one of those.
Definitely can't complain about the 747-400. In fact I'm editing a video onboard one of those as we speak and will be uploading it in coming weeks. :)
@@PaulStewartAviation Look forward to it!
Hope you had a good look around Kalgoorlie. Wonderful town. I grew up there.
I’ll be working here so I’ll definitely be exploring :)
Amazing video mate! The montage was really out of this world giving unmatched ground view throught your flight. Thank you for sharing your travels with such quality!
Glad you enjoyed it Quentin!
Legroom is awful.
grate video Paul hope you are wall and say hi to Dennis from us
Cheers mate!
Very happy to see the A320 JQ Asia get a Aussie life .. never made it to HK … but that’s another story 🧐 #QLinkSavedthis320
Thanks Keith
Great video that mind was awesome personally I like the A320 have flown with EasyJet from my local London/Luton have also flown on various 737 little to choose between them.👍
Glad you enjoyed it Ian!
Glad you enjoyed it! I've just uploaded my F100 video so that may bright back some more memories.
@@PaulStewartAviation It very much did although we were in the front of the aircraft.
LOVE the quietness of the Airbus in comparison to Boeing
Can't believe that I tracked you mate
cheers Alan
Well written and spoken Paul...
Cheers mate
It's a short flight and mainly FIFO but Qantas as usual providing a poverty spec interior and charging like a wounded bull for tickets.
Damn, the spoil hill is huge, and who doesnt love a big flying bus. They always amaze me.
hmm Kalgoorlie is spelt wrong
Ops fixed
Glad you enjoyed it Leo!
Are you come from Australia?
Yep
Cheers Hugh. Yeh wide bodies are better.. haha
Nice to see you in Perth Paul
Nice to be here :)
Glad you enjoyed it Graeme
Nice one mate!!
CHeers mate
i saw your flight take off
Nice!
The advantage of the A320 over the B737 is the cargo hold is containerised making turnaround faster.
Actually I did hear that too. Less work place injuries for the guys packing.
It’s an option. Not all A320 operators use containers. Ansett is one who didn’t get the container option.
@@ashleyw8116 Ansett?
@@camf7522 Ansett? An Australian airline that flew A320’s. Folded in 2002.
Cheers James!
You managed to get a departure from RWY24. That's notable in itself - the normal run for SW winds is 21 for departures and 21/24 for arrivals, unless works in progress or abnormally strong crosswinds.
I was very lucky! I lucked-in getting the approach pass the giant pit too.
