Yet it has been doing just that since its inception, so much that when the Government runs short of its uncontrolled spending it dips into the USPS coffers to fund even more B.S. You really should pay attention as this is common sense that's been talked about numerous times over the last couple decades, with politicians threatening to shutter the service, then the postage rates have to increase to keep it in service. Kind of like when they raise minimum wages and the big bad evil corporations offset the cost onto the customers, the Post Office does just the same and always has! Government workers Want allot of $$$ for their entitlement including crazy amazing benefits packages, so they can either steal it from you in the form of "taxes" or they can provide a service that makes a revenue and pay those wages themselves.
They are not supposed to treat you like a burden when you have to go inside a USPS brick and mortar. Like DMVs, sour attitude is an employment requirement. 🤣
💯 LBJ knew why that happens - "If you convince the lowest white man he's better than the best black man, he won't notice you picking his pocket. Hell, give him someone to look down on and he'll empty his pockets for you."
working as intended. starve the postal service of funds, watch the service crater, people get angry, privatize the service. which of course will cost more, and most likely end up working worse. sucks.
Was anyone surprised DeJoy made a “sweetheart deal” with the company he used to run, that he took over from his dad, but still holds major stock in and personally profited off of?!
So .. When Congress passed the mandate that the USPS needed to fund 75 years in advance, the outcome was not only predictable but was the point... No other enterprise has such a mandate.. As a matter of fact, some companies fell short on their pension obligations and the taxpayers bailed them out. The GOAL is ALWAYS to put the USPS in total dysfunction so that You guessed it The "pro-business" crowd can claim that privatization is the only solution.. As if that ever worked for the people But The shareholders and execs make out like bandits...
Yup. USPS will now be under their own health benefit separate (PSHB)from the rest of the federal employees (FEHB).They claim it will save the postal employee money by lowering premiums. 🙄
If they really wanted the post office to make a profit they would allow it to function as a non profit bank as it did before, update the equipment properly by taking a portion of funds away from military contractors to fund needed modernization, and allow the post office to fly mail like they did years ago. These corrupt asshats are breaking the post office's legs and then telling it to run. They all need to be removed for corruption.
Exactly! I was surprised the 75 year funding mandate wasn't mentioned. This immediately created debt making it appear that USPS was a drain on taxpayers.
@@TheMysteryDriverno, it would probably be best if you just don't speak on things you know nothing about. use the taxpayer are not going to suffer for this in the beginning but you will in the end once they force this on us and then what are you going to do blame Dems?
The window to get Dejoy out is maybe a few months. If Trump wins in 2024 and Dejoy isn't out of there by the end of the lame duck period, we're stuck with him for at least another 5 or 6 years. I fully expect the Democrats and centrist Republicans to fumble this despite the fiery rhetoric from Ossoff, Collins, Manchin, etc. APWU and NALC rank and file are trying to mobilize a movement to stop the consolidation but union leadership is lagging behind and have a frustrating habit of lobbying Democrats and "moderate" Republicans instead of trying to build a workers' alternative.
I will celebrate when the Federal Election Commission drops election fraud charges on DeJoy for the political contributions he allegedly collected from XPO employees then made donations that were relabeled as being from XPO.
I'm a former City Carrier Assistant and everything in this video is true. Our bosses WILL NOT allow us to get overtime which is required for the sheer amount of packages we get regularly thanks to services like Amazon and Temu. This is because all of the new management under Postmaster General Dejoy wants a "leaner meaner" Postal Service where workers are ran ragged until they quit so he can replace them with automation. Supervisors also repeatedly intimidate and abuse new hires under their 90 days into doing anything they ask for or being let go. I personally had my supervisor cut me down to 4 hours a week as punishment. They don't care all of this causes your mail or messes with the election this year. They only care about numbers. Dejoy and all supervisors need top to bottom terminations if you don't want your mail to take weeks to reach you and for mail-in ballots to not get "lost." Everyone needs to write their senators and congressmen about USPS NOW.
I got hired on as a Rural Carrier Associate. After they cut my pay and hours, they wanted me to somehow buy 2 suitable delivery vehicles. My take home pay after taxes, insurance, and Union Dues is 0. They also wanted me to recklessly drive in my personal vehicle. They had me do City Carrier Assistance (and amoung other things) jobs. Union told me that they offer 0 protection.
There is more to the DeJoy story. Republicans blocked democratic nominees to the Board of Governors for the USPS for a long time. Eventually Biden got his picks through and it was hoped that they would remove DeJoy. But the new appointees were from the rich and powerful and had businesses and investments, so DeJoy preemptively gave contracts to their financial interests and companies. Then they didn't have the votes to remove him.
The mail isn't supposed to be profitable. It's a public service. Something can be "not profitable" and still not lose money. Big issue with brain rot, thinking every single thing has to make a profit.
The Post Office was making a profit until Republicans in Congress decided that they had to put 70 years worth of retirement into a fund for each worker. This threw them into the red. This is intentional to show they are not working so he can privatize it. DeJoy owns stock in other private companies that deliver packages. The more he cripples the Post Office the more money his other investments make.
The post office is very profitable!! But Congress passed the PAEA in 2006 and the USPS has to fund employee medical and benefits 75 years in advance! About 3 Billion dollars a years lost from operations financing. Why?? In the early 2000s the USPS was testing electric vehicles. At one point (hard to find the news clip) USPS held a glowing press conference announcing that it had the finances and was going to upgrade the postal fleet to new electric vehicles! Very shortly lobbying pressure from the oil industry and auto makers resulted in the USPS financial base being wrecked by the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act (PAEA) legislation!
Unfortunately they are believing the trump and GOP lies. They have no idea it's because trump hired DeJoy because he wants to screw up the mail-in votes. I'm a liberal and moved to a very small rural town last year, and the only thing on the radio stations around here is Fox, which says very little about trump and his crimes, but says a lot of lies about Dems. The people out here don't use the internet much, so the news they get is hand fed to them from Fox. That's why it's so many of the rural folks that are in the trump cult, because they've been targeted and spoon fed his corrupt BS.
We need to protest outside of the board members' homes who refuse to remove this trash from our postal system! Don't let those responsible go unpunished for this!
I blame DeJoy, the director of the USPS. A Trump hire, brought on specifically to break the service in order to make mail-in voting unpopular. He should have been fired four years ago.
It wasn't just to prevent mail in ballots. The right has been attacking the post office for decades. Their donors can't charge people outrageous fees if the constitution guarantees the postal service.

Nothing to do with Congress. Trump appointed him and neither Congress or President Biden has authority to fire him, only the Board of governors can fire him. Very frustrating!!!
The postmaster general is now appointed by the Board of Governors of the United States Postal Service, not appointed by the president with the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate.
DeJoy can only be fired by the USPS Board of Governors, like Dbunik said, and Trump also installed a lot of his cronies there as well. Biden is appointing decent people to it, but can only do it when one quits, so it's slow going. Couple that with how the Postmaster General has no term limit, and here we are.
As an RCA (rural mailman that is back-up to the regular carriers), I can confirm.... DeJoy sucks. He was brought in to dismantle the system from the inside by people who want the mail to fail.
This is by design perpetrated by DeJoy, he has a glaring conflict of interest, and as far as the USPS making a profit, does the U.S military make a profit? They are of the same federal entities.

Look at the empty shelves in your stores and realize it is because of lying carriers and brokers seeking gain for themselves by booking too many loads that then don't get delivered on time and sit in yards for days or weeks... that's about to be what happens to our mail, now...
Trump put his in, so mail- in votes , would be affected....it is working. My local PO, in Aurora Colorado ,is one block east of me. They have not done sorting for a couple of years.
The president can't fire the postmaster general. That's a rule they changed in 1971, when the USPO was reorganized into the USPS and the postmaster general ceased being a member of the president's cabinet. Only the Board of Governors can hire and fire, and they're likely getting kickbacks from him, so they won't fire him.

this is because there is no longer testing for job applicants. The quality of new employees is not as high as it was when there was extensive testing. Also entry level pay has not kept up with inflation creating a large turnover
I agree, it's a service provided by the government. It should be equal for all who live in the country, wether you live in the city, or rural. It's enshitification ( lol new word) can impact the economy for sure. For profit delivery services suck and wind up putting packages in the USPS to get it delivered anyway when they fail.
The United States Postal Service used to set the standard for mail delivery worldwide. I remember sending a letter to the same city I live in and the recipient would get it the next day. Now that same letter takes three days to arrive even though the processing center is 10 miles away! I send my property taxes a week in advance so they make it to a building five miles from my house before the payment deadline. The United States is falling behind in so many key metrics that once made it great.
My mother lives in an apartment complex one mile from a major USPS distribution center in a big city in Texas. She's lucky to get a delivery every other day. I've had mail returned as "undeliverable." I sent a time-sensitive form by Priority mail and it was returned to the p.o. because it "didn't fit into the mailbox." Priority mail should have been delivered directly to her door.
I live in ft worth area, in a large apartment complex and i know from personal experience that they will deliver NOTHING to any ones door at apartments here. Thats why i hate it when i order off amazon and they decide to use USPS, most of the time USPS just instantly rejects it and sends it back.
Same is happening here in my town. USPS will never deliver to the door. I only get a missed delivery notice and have to go pick them all up on my own. I think eventually they may resort to that entirely. I hate using USPS and wish that we had the option to choose what service the merchant uses to deliver our packages. I would use UPS every time, they are the only ones that deliver on time and to the door.
@tenafleming7199 the routes are SEVERELY overburdened in a lot of areas and a lot of carriers are working 10-12 hours a day 6-7 days a week. Also, no, they do not deliver oversized parcels to the door in apartment complexes, as the delivery point is the mail center, not each and every door, and the carrier doesn't get paid to go to the door. Apartment complexes should have a mail room that locks so large packages can be left there.
As a 10 year employee of the USPS currently I would like to offer an apology from the USPS. Most of the front line workers sincerely care about the service they provide and the contributions that we give everyday but as most of you know the low end of the totem pole gets shitted on and inevitably we all suffer employees included. We are embarrassed 100% at this.
Yes ! Great comment and I couldn’t agree more. I was so proud when I became a Postal Clerk 1994. Now it’s a total embarrassment. It’s pretty sad to see an American Icon that I’ve put my blood, sweat and many tears to fall apart on purpose !!! Pretty soon it will be gone. 😞

All those sorting machines removed sorted letters. Since 2001, letter volume is down literally 50%. Yet not a single letter sorting machine had been decommissioned until Dejoy came in.
THANK YOU, so much, for this report. You are absolutely correct in what is happening. I have 27 years of service in USPS. I am appalled and frustrated and angered over DeJoy's plan and the impact it has had on my Customers in rural SW Michigan. I have a lot of customers who are online sellers. When their parcels are delayed, I have no answers for them. Every day they get scans "in transit", while the parcel sits on a truck, waiting to be sent. Management is more worried about the 4 scans I have to do to return each piece of empty equipment back to the sorting facility. In this day and age, I don't know how you get this word out to the General Public. But it needs to be done. When the plant where I worked was closing in 2015, the local news channels showed citizens saying that they didn't care whether or not they got daily delivery of mail. After being reassigned to a local post office, I hear it every day, "Where's My Mail?" Thank You, again for this great article. I hope that you can get the word out - Senators, Congress, the Postal Board, The President! Whomever!!!
@@doesntmatter4195 As a postal employee since 1980 I would like to know what you disagree about. I have seen management slowly destroy the USPS since 2000 and DeJoy accelerate it since 2020. The public often thinks they "don't care" until they need the service and it fails. Mail delivery has kinda been taken for granted for 250 years
Took me three months to get my USPS mail from Arizona to Indiana. The tracking stopped 6 times on the way here. The trail it took to get here was crazy.
A small reminder that wasn't brought up: The USPS was solvent until congress reworked the retirement plan back in the 70's and 90's. Postal is the only agency that pays for retirement upfront one hire date and then recycles the money into another fund when someone quits. It's also the only one to *NOT* get this funding from the US Treasury; Every other agency does. It's also the only one to adjust retirement funds due to COLA/inflation pre-retirement. What does that mean? They have to pay for the minimum 5 years of retirement pay on hire, pay for it all out of the agency's pocket, dump more in whenever 'inflation' happens [which the legal definition isn't what you would think], and if that person quits or is fired before being eligible for retirement the money goes into a slush fund rather than being used to pay for the retirement package of a new hire. That's why there's a push to 'trim the fat'; The money goes to DeJoy's kill the post office project.
@@erkinalp The US constitution is not rigid, it can be changed and if you sabotage it enough you can push the notion that it's a failure and so shouldn't be funded anymore. That's what the Tory's in the UK are doing right now with the NHS.
Postmaster DeLay’s purpose has always been to break up and privatize the post office. Here in Topeka, KS, a few years ago, they got rid of our local sorting center and moved it to KC (about an hour away). It used to be that if you mailed something to someone in town it would arrive the following day, now it is 2-3 days. And most USPS packages (from anywhere) now take an extra day due to having to be sorted an extra time in KC. (It appears that there is a regional sorting facility and a local sorting facility in KC. They are in different towns.)
I have had issues with my mail for 3 years. I’ve gone to the post office, the post master, my congressman and the post master general. Their response…”there is a ‘Glitch’ in the system”.
well remember back in 2020 DeJoy literally just ordered all the sorting machines to be SMASHED, destroyed-- then ignored a court order to stop...he is a multiple felon on the job who has done untold damage yet the arch-craven reaganite Biden refuses to lift a finger against him

There is absolutely zero regard for postal customers and employees. @@silverwing5254 Biden left at least one of the vacant seats on the Board of Governors open for a long time after he was elected. He should have made it a priority to fill that seat and publicly make it very clear that he wanted DeJoy out. He could have kept up the public pressure on the other members, citing the lackluster performance, cuts in hours and locations and destruction of postal property as reasons to oust DeJoy. That is what a leader does. Presidents use public pressure all the time to get what they want. Biden launched an attack on Syria in his first month in office and within a mere 37 hours of taking the oath of office he ordered the use of federal agencies to pressure social media to sen-sore RFK Jr. If Biden wanted DeJoy out he would have found a way to do it. The truth is that he is complicit in the move to privatize the Post Office, which is included as a mandate in the Constitution. He took an oath to uphold the Constitution but has failed on multiple counts. Biden should have been working for the American people instead of depriving Americans of their constitutional right to free speech, unlawfully authorizing an attack on a foreign country and facilitating the privatization of our constitutionally mandated postal service. Get rid of DeJoy now! And make a law-if you go into public service with the goal to ruin it and parce out service to private companies, you go to jail.

The post office as a public service: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." The post office as a business: "Rural service?! Lol, no"
I've had packages that went to Mississippi, back to my state (east coast) and then finally up north. It's like - WTF? And look, I understand that things get put on the wrong truck sometimes, mistakes happen, but why does it have to come back to my state before heading north? Why don't they just ship it from Mississippi to its destination? It literally costs the post office more money to do it that way and my package ends up being an entire week+ late instead of a few days. DeJoy NEEDS to be replaced. He's totally screwing up the USPS.
Because clerks don't have enough time to sort. Some mail is not sorted in time. The supervisors are graded on how much mail is in the building so they will dispatch unsorted mail to a random location so it isn't counted against them
Usps employees just don't care, it is nearly impossible to be fired. They can cuss out customers to their face, steal mail, whatever they want and have a job for life
This one is easy to explain. It may cost more for them to ship just your package that way, but this is more cost-efficient for the Postal Service. The more mail they can stuff into the same vehicles, the lower the "unit price" is. This translates to a lower cost for the Post Office customers.
Smacks of the enshitification Cory Doctorow’s written on extensively. It’s basically setting the stage for what is the direct antithesis of the USPS’s design as shown in statute to not serve everyone equally but to serve some better than others and to make everyone pay the absolute limit of what they’d be willing to pay but not a dollar more to where they’d just not use the service. Eg the changes to first class service. With the ultimate aim of setting the stage for privatization which is already underway eg the increasing contractor use.
"My fellow americans, you are about to enter an experience that the britsh had to live with during the 1960s and beyond, cause of what british railways did to themselves through the guides of the beaching report." first they cut off the smaller services or anything that doesn't make a profit, then the main source of revenue starts drying up with time, more money may be diverted to research for more ' 'high tec' ' alternatives while the usual equipment that gets replaced are of lower quality, etc, and many years down the line it could all end up being sold off to the private sector.
The problem is USPS was designed and works for its citizens as a service, not as a business. Not everything has to be a business and for profit. The blind pursuit of profit is ruining America and I am watching companies associated with my bills making 2 digit percentage profits year after year but I am seeing my energy and utility bills barely double.
100%. Everything is becoming monetized. And it's disgusting. If it keeps up, civilization will eventually completely crumble with that mentality. Eventually it will only be the 1% that will survive. They'll have loads and loads of money and cars and many huge houses, but there will be no more services, and no more people to "serve" them because it will have all crumbled beneath them. Just AI and the 1%. That is the road they are driving us down, at a very fast pace.
Trump already broke it by hiring DeJoy to break it. It's already broken. We have to now go in and fix that mess, just like all of the other messes that trump got America into for his selfish greed.

Dejoy does not set the cost of postage. That is set by the Postal Regulatory Commission. Which is not even a part of the USPS. Which by the way is currently 2 Democrats, 1 Intendent, and 1 Republican.
The 'no layoffs' is a gloat. When employees are laid off, their employers must pay (some portion of unemployment benefits). Doing it this way absolves USPS from having to pay for laying employees off. Also, note that if an employee quits, they are typically not entitled to unemployment compensation. It's a capitalist win all around.
It's not just rural areas getting screwed. Even a lot of decent sized cities are getting left behind. Reno, metro area of over half a million, is seeing its mail sent to Sacramento, 130 miles away and over a mountain pass that is so notorious for bad winter storms that it is named after one of the largest groups of people to get trapped there during a winter storm and die there (Donner Pass wasn't named after the reindeer). And DeJoy is pretending that this isn't going to impact reliability.
At the same time everyone is being forced to shop online because brick and mortar shopping is being eliminated or greatly reduced, you can't get **** delivered.
Or brick and mortar is disappearing because people are buying online. Too many people just can’t or won’t see consequences of their actions. Sometimes we need to pay a little more, and maybe buy a little less, to keep businesses local.
"Make it more profitable" the mail shouldnt be profitable. It is not a business. It is a public service. We're supposed to be paying it with our taxes. Those fees that only go to funding- I shan't say
The United States had the best mail service in the mail.it’s been a long time since hs but I thought the post office is in the constitution. DeJoy was hired to destroy the postal service and privatize it.
As someone who lives in eastern oregon (Home to the least populated areas in the US outside of Alaska), it been worse than " a few days". I know people that had to look into telegram service after they needed to mail physical paperwork because our mail was running over a month late on all packages.
10 years ago, DeJoy killed our post office processing center in Sioux City, Iowa and now our mail has to go to Sioux Falls, SD, 90 miles away. That has slowed our service so much and made it almost impossible to vote by mail here, because besides having it absentee ballots having to go back and forth to 'sioux Falls, the Iowa Legislature has also shortened the days to vote by mail from 40 to 21.. Now, DeJoy is talking about closing the processing center in Sioux Falls, SD and moving it to Omaha, NE. This has to stop, but it seems like it isn't stopping. DeJoy needs to be replaced.
This was absolutely fantastic and spot on, from someone with 20 years as a carrier. Also look at the 2007 postal prefunding mandate that bilked us for almost $100B. To this day no one knows where the money went, and it could sure help us right about now.
I worked for the postal service for 5 years I left in December I saw all this coming and I was not having it. Amazon took over in Jan of last year I saw a lot of old carriers leave because of it they took the pensions first which really ticked me off only the old carriers where eligible for pensions it is not the great job they tried to make it out to be.
There have been a lot of temporary weekend rural driver positions popping up in my area. Always have to supply your own vehicle tho. Not exactly a cheap job just to get a foot in the door.
I live in Georgia and had to switch to having my mail delivered in Ohio where it arrives 2-3 faster. Packages are routed from a neighboring city to Arizona to Virginia and all around Georgia before reaching my mailbox. When I have a package or have replacement cards delivered, it's 2 weeks to 3 weeks faster. I see hiring signs throughout the state for the post office. If DeJoy is connected to Trump and other real estate companies, I see why they are temporarily rerouting services until the plans of "development" in these areas are complete.
Because of short staffed. Nobody wants a job where you are treated like a slave and forced to deliver in a truck that has no heat or ac and breaks down every other day.
This kind of conflict of interest (called corruption in other places) is a type of thing that gets pointed out as an example of why is some country corrupt and hopeless and backwards.... Just sayn.
Yet, here in Alaska, in an area containing over 30,000 residents, we can't even get our mail delivered. Maybe Congress will wake up and force the post office to honor the Constitutional requirement.
It may make a difference. But people would vote republican much less if Dems focused on economic issues in favour of normal People, rather than culture war or abortion. Maybe have referendums on those
USPS isn't a business. It is a service. It is not supposed to make a profit.
Exactly,
It was converted to such like Congress is supposed to issue the coin not the Fed.

So ..
When Congress passed the mandate that the USPS needed to fund 75 years in advance, the outcome was not only predictable but was the point...

Or it was to avoid needing a tax payer bailout
If they really wanted the post office to make a profit they would allow it to function as a non profit bank as it did before, update the equipment properly by taking a portion of funds away from military contractors to fund needed modernization, and allow the post office to fly mail like they did years ago. These corrupt asshats are breaking the post office's legs and then telling it to run. They all need to be removed for corruption.

Bold words for a mortal.
Union told me that they offer 0 protection.
it is standard practice to limit the part time emplyee's to 2 hours a day so they don't have to pay benefits.
That’s exactly why I’ll be putting my absentee Ballot in a drop box instead of mailing it. Who knows what DeJoy will do to help Trump get in😮

There is more to the DeJoy story. Republicans blocked democratic nominees to the Board of Governors for the USPS for a long time. But the new appointees were from the rich and powerful and had businesses and investments, so DeJoy preemptively gave contracts to their financial interests and companies. Louis Dejoyless screwing up a 250 year old institution
The mail isn't supposed to be profitable. It's a public service. Something can be "not profitable" and still not lose money. Big issue with brain rot, thinking every single thing has to make a profit.
NeoLiberalism One on One. EVERYTHING must make a personal profit or enable more personal profit. This is the core tenant of the philosophy.
I've had packages held up for inspections a lot this year. They are just old action figures. Absolute joke these days.
this is because there is no longer testing for job applicants.
The postal service is to deliver to the door. There is too many lazy postal workers that want a pay check and not do the work.

How could one kill a constitutionally mandated institution? Just failed to grasp the issue as a foreigner.

DeJoy has been a disaster for the postal service. Exactly what I would expect from a Trump appointee.
A Trump appointee who Biden did absolutely nothing to remove. We need fresh leadership willing to deal with the hard stuff. That why I'm voting for RFK Jr.
@@dao8805 He literally can't remove DeJoy. The president is only able to appoint a postmaster general, and only when there is an opening, they can't fire them though. Only the Post Office board can do that, and they are firmly on DeJoy's paycheck.
@@silverwing5254 Biden left at least one seat on the board open for a long time after he was elected. He should have made filling it a priority and making it clear that his intent was to get DeJoy removed. He should have been applying pressure to every member of the board during his entire term; that is what presidents do all the time when they want something done. And he should have been applying the pressure publicly to make it even more effective and tighten the noose around these stooges. It's called leadership and Biden has fallen down on the job.
Biden is a complete tool of the establishment., as much as Trump is. That's why I am voting for RFK Jr.
Do you not listen the president doesn’t appoint postmaster
Please keep covering this! There needs to be way more exposure on this issue then there currently is. Weve been working "off contract" for over a year and theres no end in sight.
It’s getting old, isn’t it? 😞 I recently got my Postal Post survey. I couldn’t even make myself fill it out. 😢
Mail in Montana flows through Billings already and it's always days late. Adding 1/3 of Wyoming is going to make it much worse for both states.
Get rid of DeJoy now! And make a law-if you go into public service with the goal to ruin it and parce out service to private companies, you go to jail.
Basic disenfranchisement of rural and typically impoverished areas. Who's gonna speak up for us rocks and cows?
When I was a little kid, if you had invitations to a birthday party to mail get them to the post office by 10 am they'd be delivered in your neighborhood with the afternoon delivery. It also only cost 3 cents. Try that now.
I have given up sending gifts to relatives in the mail. It's too much of a hassle and costs too much.
The post office as a public service: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."
The post office as a business: "Rural service?! Lol, no"
No stamps? No where to get papers notarized? Where to get boxes to make shipments? CORPORATIONS ARE NEVER FOR THE PEOPLE😢😢😢😢😢
It sucks that even the Postal Service is vulnerable to enshittification.
@@moonman239 Not that much thought goes into it I assure you
Smacks of the enshitification Cory Doctorow’s written on extensively.
"My fellow americans, you are about to enter an experience that the britsh had to live with during the 1960s and beyond, cause of what british railways did to themselves through the guides of the beaching report."
first they cut off the smaller services or anything that doesn't make a profit, then the main source of revenue starts drying up with time, more money may be diverted to research for more ' 'high tec' ' alternatives while the usual equipment that gets replaced are of lower quality, etc, and many years down the line it could all end up being sold off to the private sector.
Private businessmen taking a job in government is always nefarious, never efficient. They hate competition, especially better systems.
Yes, private businessmen have no concept of government service, only of profitability
Handicapping the USPS will be such a huge loss to everyone
Mail is the only federal services that has run smoothly for nearly 250 years. Don't fix what ain't broke
Too late, money and magats are involved. 🥾⬇️🪱
To many legal issues that's why. 99.9 percent of people don't know the power of the post office.
USPS is broke actually
Trump already broke it by hiring DeJoy to break it. It's already broken. We have to now go in and fix that mess, just like all of the other messes that trump got America into for his selfish greed.
99.999999% of all mail I get is junk mail and maybe bills. Email is what has killed snail mail
I'm 69 years old. Before de Stroy took over, the postal service lost ZERO pieces of my mail. ZERO, not even one.
Since de Stroy took over, it's up to 5 pieces of mail that have failed to get delivered to me to date.
And get this : last year I renewed my drivers license and it literally took 3 months to receive it.
I'm not exaggerating, 3 months !!!
I'm failing to see how the mail taking longer to deliver or not getting delivered at all is an improvement from DeJoy.
it's not, & he knows it, but he doesn't care. his mindset is profit, not the customers & employees' quality of life.
It's not about service, it's about engineering the greatest profits - not for the service, but for cronies.
You didn't see that fat surface shipping contract? Major improvement right there.
(ahem)
Depending on a certain point of view. Like Dejoy's.
This already is happening in my rural community. We had WONDERFUL postal workers at the local office up until 3 years ago. They were all relocated. The people there now do not care. Office hours were cut from 5:30 to 4:30. PO box rates increased. Postage rates increase. Service has decreased.
I worked for USPS as a seasonal carrier and I used to joke those LLVs would unalive you to save itself. Used to skid on ice going just 5mph in those things. Terrifying
I tracked a package that went from Seattle to L.A. before it came up to Canada. That's progress.
DeJoy is another unwanted gift from the orange monster
Like you but you do not qualify as a 🎁. Just unwanted. 🤡🤡
This is happening in northern Nevada, too. Our mail will go 130 miles over Donner Summit to Sacramento to be sorted. Donner Pass is closed an average of 37 days every winter. Then there is the wildfire season. The current standard for a letter to be delivered locally is 2 days. The reality is 4 days. Throw in a 260 mile roundtrip….
I live in a rural area in Pennsylvania. It's been awful!! I've had a lot of late mail or non-delivered mail. Mail going out is just as bad! 3 Post Offices are combined into one. It's totally ridiculous!!!
This reminds me of when the big banks were gobbling up smaller, local ones. They'd always say no one will lose their jobs, of course that was a lie.
De Joy has closed so many post offices in my state. Mailing a letter is no longer quick and convenient.
You don't need a post office in every middle of nowhere town of 1000 people

@lopoa126 education has nothing to do with it. You never addressed what I said..... the only things really sent by snail mail are maybe bills, maybe meds, irs and state/federal stuff and the rest is junk mail. Email does vastly more communication faster, cheaper and better.
Usps needs a major overhaul to not bleed vast sums of money, this means alot of post offices get closed and postal workers lose jobs.

The USPS is profitable. It just has to fund pensions 75 years in advance for employees who arent even born yet.

In 2021 I sent a return receipt requested certified, it’s still not found…
How is De-Joy even still there?
From Fortune Magazine: “President Biden doesn't have the power to remove him from his post, despite how badly the agency is struggling. “Get used to me,” DeJoy said in February 2021. The postmaster general is appointed by the Board of Governors of the Postal Service-and can only be dismissed by this group, not the president.” President Biden appointed 4 members when he took office but can’t appoint more until other Board members leave. It’s idiotic but this is how it works.
@@stephencronin304 This is why I hate this damn system. DeJoy is obviously corrupt and breaking the post office on purpose and Democrats act like nothing can be done because it's against the rules. Well then change the f*cking rules. You are letting the system be purposefully ruined by people who don't care about the rules. You need to get aggressive to maintain the integrity of the government functioning. That's why the court system is screwed, why zealot politicians are successfully ruining healthcare for millions of people, and most agencies are so underfunded they only function properly half the time at best. Ironic that it takes the Post Office to prove that government is NOT a business & thus can not be run like a bussiness because it similar to all other jobs the government preforms it has different deliverables. Like my night & day different, where one focuses exclusivly on profit, the other focuses on providing a service & while A+ service is possible in the business world, service in it's self is just a means to an ends & not an end unto it's self, which is why Bussinessmen will always fail at public policy.
I live in GA and this is very much true! Only after Jon Ossof read the Trump appointed head of USPS the riot act are we JUST now getting our mail at least 3 times a week. Before it was weeks before we saw any mail.
Postal service is covered in the Constitution. He also took away high speed sorting machines. His priorities are to build profit for his own company by making USPS too expensive.
Get rid of DeJoy, roll back every change he made. He's raising the price of a postage stamp to .78 cents! And it only gets horrifying from there. If you don't adopt online banking you're going to be royally screwed.
Usps desperately needs the funds to operate and have a positive cash flow
Dejoy does not set the cost of postage. That is set by the Postal Regulatory Commission. Which is not even a part of the USPS. Which by the way is currently 2 Democrats, 1 Intendent, and 1 Republican.
We need the names and addresses of the Postal Board to write letters of protest !!
Good idea! Google the Board member's contact info and tell them to fire DeJoy
Telling people they need to move to keep their job constitutes a "constructive" termination. I don't think they can say "no layoffs"
@user-ps2nn5pj4g
There is no capitalism as far as the USPS is concerned: it's a state-owned monopoly, more in line with fascism than capitalism.
@@seriouslyshortofnormal925 Ah, ok. So how do you explain all of this maneuvering to maximise profits and cost workers their livelihoods, then?

It's not just rural areas getting screwed. Even a lot of decent sized cities are getting left behind. Reno, metro area of over half a million, is seeing its mail sent to Sacramento, 130 miles away and over a mountain pass that is so notorious for bad winter storms that it is named after one of the largest groups of people to get trapped there during a winter storm and die there (Donner Pass wasn't named after the reindeer). And DeJoy is pretending that this isn't going to impact reliability.
I'm all for modernizing the USPS but you've gotta get it *right*. If you can't maintain service level then do *not* make changes. It's that simple.

DeJoy was put in that position to assure failure so that the Post Office will be privatized.
A man who has vested interests in the USPS competition should not be in charge of the USPS.
Sometimes my mail isn't delivered until after 10:30 p.m. my mailman wears a hat with a light on it
Because of short staffed. Nobody wants a job where you are treated like a slave and forced to deliver in a truck that has no heat or ac and breaks down every other day.
