This is a great video! Thank you for sharing! Most people think Minnesota is the Twin Cities, but we locals know the North Shore, is God's Country, truly!!!
From Chicago area, just took a motorcycle trip up there! We stopped in Knife River went to Russ Kendals smoke house for smoked fish. A must do when visiting the area. Thanks.
The split rock lighthouse tour is totally worth it, not for the lighthouse, but because of the lighthouse keeper houses. It gives you a real sense of how they lived then. I go every 5 years or so. Glensheen in Duluth is also totally worth a visit.
I absolutely love this video. I'm originally from Duluth, Minnesota and I miss my home state. Living out of state makes me appreciate all that I've seen and been able to do up the North Shore of Minnesota Highway 61 North. Thank you for providing such a beautiful video. It brought me to tears on how much I love and miss it.
Outstanding ! You showed me 3 places I haven't been yet. Iona, Black beaches and Grand Portage. Though I am no longer capable of doing long all day hikes. I used to spend many hours hiking during the Fall colors . First starting at Oberg Mountain outside of Tofte up the Onion River road. There is a spectacular view of Lake Superior at the top of Oberg. Then hike around the top to the other side where there is a view of a deep valley of trees not far from Lutsen. Then work my way back to Split Rock, Tettegouche and Palisade Head. And end up at Gooseberry Park.
Hike the overlook hikes (like Palisade Head, Bean & Bear and many more) in the fall and the rivers in the spring (like Gooseberry River/Falls). Fall colors from the overlook hikes are beautiful and the rivers (there are many with dramatic falls) in the spring are that much more dramatic.
Love North Shore in fall. Here’s my list-Canal park, Gooseberry park, Black beach, drive up to Palisade. like hiking? Baptism river, Caribou Falls, Sugar cove, Temperance river. Best half day hikes-Oberg Trail, Cascade river. Take a drive up on Maple Leaf Drive to see leaf’s change colors.
Loved Temperance River! I'm from Kansas and when I visited the North Shore in 2020 it was truly a life-altering experience. Incredible fall foliage, waterfalls, cliffs, mountain hikes with magnificent views of Lake Superior. Mount Oberg was great and I also really enjoyed Mount Carlton.
Grand Marais is a favorite of our family. A quaint little town that feels just right. Great place to stay as a base camp for day trips to many different hikes.
I've been going up to the north shore since I was a kid. One of my favorite memories is stopping at your "old school" souvenir shops. The one place that myself and my family stop at every time is Tom's Logging Camp. Other than the great souvenir shopping, they also have an old logging camp tour available. The owners are terrific and enjoy talking with their customers. I HIGHLY recommend this stop go those that enjoy going back in time.
Thanks for the tip! Going to try it next time we are there. Even if Betty's has become a bit of a tourist trap the pie was still really good, but I'm not a pie connoisseur 😉
Betty’s Pies was good years ago. It has declined in quality over the years with its new owners. Rustic Inn is far superior (pun intended). Go elsewhere for pie.
what an awesome views !! you really know how to pick them up . lovely video and footage as always . have a great weekend to you and your whole family . stay safe and healthy .
The North Shore is magnificent! I've been going up for years. In fact I'm heading up tomorrow to go to the Festival of Sails in Two Harbors⛵ Nice video mate💯🤗
Another winter activity in Two Harbors is curling. You can't just drop in and try it but all are welcome to watch. If you have a group and are looking for a weekend getaway on the North Shore, you can rent the facility and local curlers will teach you. Every winter we have several groups come. Some companies do that for their Christmas party.
I have been "planning" this trip for about a year as a honeymoon trip for when my husband gets here as we have been waiting over 4yrs for his visa leaving his country. Taking notes and need to watch this one again a few more times. I live in mid Iowa.
The north shore is definitely one of the best places I’ve been, it’s definitely the place I feel most at home, planning on moving to Duluth once my lease is up. You got pretty much everything, only thing you missed of mine is if you like coffee you have to go to Java moose in grand Marais, I live in a city with tons of coffee shops but none of them even compare to this place, they have a store and a lil concession stand type shop on the beach, I only ever go to the one on the beach
Hey thanks for the comment and letting us know about Java Moose. I'm not a coffee guy, but love comments where people share their favorite spots as well. That way other viewers can benefit. The North Shore is a special place for sure 😁
Wow, that is committment! I have family in Northern Minnesota (not Duluth) and have spent a lot of time there. Love it, but the weather is harsh and the politics for the state are completey driven by the Twin Cities, if that matters to you.
Don't forget to park in any of our fabulous garages where the lot parking may cost $30 for 8 hours, but the homeless man stabbing you is included. Don't forget to ask about the free car break-in window smashing service, or finding orange syringe caps in your upscale hotel room from the hordes of roaming sex workers that keep our many hospitality institutions in varying states of solvency
You will love it, just do a little research to familiarize yourself so you don’t miss anything while heading up the north shore. If you have time on your way home swing over to Bayfield, it’s on the Wisconsin side. You can take a ferry around the apostle islands for a tour or over in cornucopia you can kayak out to the sea caves…..it’s amazing !!! But don’t go on your own, go with an outfitter, they have all the equipment, have experienced guides and are watching the weather closely! Things change quickly out there and there are no landing spots just sheer cliffs, so pay the $60-100 ? And be safe ! Have a wonderful time !!!
Another great thing is hiking the devil's kettle trail in Judge magney state park. There are 3 different hikes. The lower falls, the upper falls and to the top to the devil's kettle.
One of the best things about going to the North Shore is stopping in Hinckley on the way up and getting a (HUGE!) (delicious!) cinnamon roll from Tobie’s!
Fantastic list! Heading there soon - have no idea where we are going or anything, so if there is literally a "must see" in Minnesota...? We are heading East from ND!
The North shore and the Boundary Waters are our Minnesota favorites for sure. Just across the lake the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Wisconsin is also incredible. Enjoy your time out there!
The daily fee of $7 is good for all state parks for that day. So if you are doing this all in one or two days you may still want to pay the daily fee. I always encourage people to buy the annual pass though, there are so many beautiful parks in Minnesota including 8 on the North Shore.
Why would you not stop in Two Harbors, they have a light house there, and places big ships stop to load and drop off, I live in Duluth but Two Harbors has history as well that don't get talked about 😢
If you're going to include Betty's Pies as a "thing to do", You also have include the "World's Best Donuts" in Grand Marais. ...a must stop for anyone making their way up the North Shore.
The North Shore is one of our favorite places! What's your favorite thing to do on the North Shore?
Mt Josephine
This is a great video! Thank you for sharing! Most people think Minnesota is the Twin Cities, but we locals know the North Shore, is God's Country, truly!!!
Thanks for your comment! We fell in love with it while there and still have many dear friends in the area. Hoping to return this summer!
It's more than worth it, seeing inside the lighthouse and views from there.

Agreed it's a great place to set out from on day trips!
Spent a weekend exploring the North Shore a couple of weeks ago and totally fell in love with it!

Thanks for your comment. Awesome recommendations!
Makes me wanna go to Minnesota now 👌. Love the video!
Thanks! This one's been sitting in tha backlog for over a year actually 😳
Come on up, you won’t regret it !!!!
Only locals know Betty’s pies is a tourist trap if you are wanting really good pie on the north shore head to the rustic inn best pies on the shore!
Thanks for the tip! Going to try it next time we are there. Even if Betty's has become a bit of a tourist trap the pie was still really good, but I'm not a pie connoisseur 😉
They're both tourist traps now.
Betty’s Pies was good years ago. It has declined in quality over the years with its new owners. Rustic Inn is far superior (pun intended). Go elsewhere for pie.
Totally agree! The ones we tried tasted like generic, low quality packaged from frozen. Not homemade.
Great video! And beautiful family! Duluth and the north shore is a favorite our family
wow this is one of the best travel videos i've ever seen on youtube. amazing b-roll and very helpful info!
what an awesome views !! you really know how to pick them up . lovely video and footage as always . have a great weekend to you and your whole family . stay safe and healthy .

I visited Minneapolis in October 2023 and I've already made up my mind to drop by again in oct 2024
this is Duluth not Minneapolis. best city in minnesota
Thanks for a great look around the North Shore!
I definitely want to go there and do some camping and hiking.
Happy Trails

Such a great video! You did a phenomenal job. Can't wait to take the road trip with the family 🙌
I love the North Shore!
Forgot, during winter time , there are several cross country ski trails along the North Shore. The biggest being Sugarbush by Tofte.
One of my favorite North Shore vistas is Palisade Head, just past Silver Bay (heading northeast).
Great tip! Thanks for sharing.
Very educational I got a friend who is homeschooling and I recommended she use the videos you do as history
Thanks Noah!
@@OurMillionAdventures I introduced her to them right after you started the OMA unedited

Very cool video thanks so much. My family and I are planning a vacation there last week of September, we live in North Carolina.
Enjoy! That is a beautiful time of year to visit!

@@maaingan that’s in downtown Duluth, this video is about visiting the north shore !
The shady part of all cities have that crap !

@@maaingan you got major issues. I've camped up and down the North shore for over 40 years now, now doing hotels, never had one problem!
Another great thing is hiking the devil's kettle trail in Judge magney state park. There are 3 different hikes. The lower falls, the upper falls and to the top to the devil's kettle.
Great suggestion!
Awesome list and collection of vids!
Helpful video. I might visit the area next summer.
You should it's beautiful!
Very well done video!
Thank you very much!
Train museum in Duluth & train ride up to Two Harbours.
Great suggestions! Hadn't heard about the museum. Is it open year round?
Bean & Bear Lake Hike !
Mount Josephine Hike -
All stunning
For winter activities you overlooked and didn’t mention down hill skiing at Lutsen!
So beautiful, I need to visit!!
Definitely! It's a place you'd love

They don’t mine iron ore at Cliff Mining near Black Beach. They process ore into taconite.
I’ve been there like 50th times and still go there

What public beach can my 7yr old son and I go look for agates? We are from St Paul and its a long drive without knowing a destination

No North Shore Scenic Railroad 😭
You missed agate hunting.
What's the best spot for that?

There was a long line at the window today, Oct. 11, 2024. I don't get it, but I haven't had one of their wares.
