  • In this eye-opening video, we shed light on a concerning issue that could potentially tarnish Poshmark’s reputation.
    Posh Shows, the live video feature introduced by Poshmark, has opened the doors for sellers to showcase and sell their items like never before; however, I have noticed first-hand, sellers attempting to sell fake handbags to unsuspecting buyers.
    I’ll share what I’ve witnessed on Posh Shows
    How to protect yourself by learning a few quick tips on how to spot a fake handbag with virtual authentication
    A call to action for sellers and buyers to help weed out these bad apples and report them directly to Poshmark so they don’t mess it up for all of the honest sellers
    PSA: Hopefully, these transactions are being stopped by Poshmark before shipping to the customer (if not, the buyer can take advantage of “Posh Protect” (Poshmark’s buyer protection program), which will provide a full refund for items that are not as described or not authentic. If you are a buyer of a Posh Show, don’t hesitate to return an item. Do not re-posh it, return it!

    NOTE: This is said in the video, but we want to put it in writing too. We DO NOT support selling fake goods, period. It hurts the honest sellers, the buyers, and the marketplace. Doing so is illegal and is against Poshmark’s Terms of Service and community guidelines. If you see it, report it.

    Long time reseller here and I started selling on poshmark when they first started. I am super disappointed with how they are continuing to allow this. I also do not like the live shows, it really has brought down the overall cost that things are selling at! Thanks for all the great info! This was super helpful! Hope poshmark pays attention to your video!

      I have seen a major decrease in my sails ever since the live shows began. It hurts us ,when they're selling garb for three bucks! I can't afford to hold a live show. Take my $250 2-pc skirt & jacket set NWT I have listed. What idiot thinks I'm going to put that in a live show for a five-dollar starting bid??? Poshmark is missing the mark, when it's .50 cent garage sale items being pushed in the live shows now. And how can the hosts afford to give away FREE gifts & raffle items? ....Every night!?!!

    I’ve been selling on their for years. When I used to sell LV they would flag it fake and take it off. Now, people are selling luxury like crazy!!!! I hate the $3 starts because its killing sales. I think people in HQ are scammers too. No way all this stuff is real. Almost all these shows are luxury shows now

    Great information! I don’t buy these bags but learning this about these is cool. Great point at the end about the picture for the item. I hate that some dont put a picture of what you purchased. I just started buying from the live and some of it amazes me on the stuff sold. There are some good sellers on there and there are some phony’s and i laugh at how they say ohhh you’re getting such a great deal and what a loss they’re taking and they have the best prices. Omg it’s sad. Going into the shows you just have to know your stuff and what to expect and what to look for. I have found a couple sellers that do the low starts and wow some awesome stuff. You can get a feel from how they present themselves and explain and show you the pieces and stamps and imperfections. So far they’ve been ladies that have those jewelry addictions and it’s from their personal collection. I see how it does suck for regular sellers. I’ve been going back and forth with listing stuff because of the people that expect you to give it to them for practically free. They hound you for the lowest so they can turn it around and make money off it. I don’t mind resellers at all just the ones that are pushy lowballers that are just in it for the money and don’t care they’ve ripped you off. Resellers that do it because they like it and like to find items that people are looking for are awesome. They are the ones that you don’t mind the xtra little cost. Everybody wants the best deal and everybody wants to make some money which is legit but there’s too many scammers out there that ruin it for the honest sellers. They do need to be stopped. Good for you for taking a stand and putting this video up. More people need to watch it just for the msg cuz it’s not just with bags where the scams happen. So many fake items. It’s sickening when you really learn all what these twisted scammers will do to get a buck. Anyway Bravo and Thank you! 😊

    You are right about fake merch. However, fakes are a more "recent" problem. Items that are even older than yours won't have a lot of the identifiers and markings that you see nowadays. For example, I have luxury items from the 70s that are leather but have no attached verifiers so it's harder to "prove" authenticity.

    • @resellgenius
      @resellgenius  3 місяці тому

      You are 100% correct! It takes some serious knowledge and detective work to authenticate older designer items. The newer bags are getting even easier to authenticate now as companies like LV are starting to use chips and digital authentication instead of printed serial numbers and date-codes too. Are there any particular tips and tricks you have for authenticating vintage?

    How fulfilling to find your video here with so much valuable information. I am very perturbed with all of the knockoff merchandise being sold in the live shows. It's easier now more than ever to get away with making money off of replica fake junk. As a seller, I do report all of these replicas and unsupported items whenever I spot them. I admire your experience with knowing the details of the lux mdse. I've never owned one in my whole life - I am 63 yrs old, can you believe that?!??? I'm even afraid to buy Chanel makeup from Poshmark for fear that it's also a replica. And, don't get me started on the subject of used makeup, girl. Ignorance really shows through when a seller believes her swatched makeup is brand new unused & she has it priced the same as the department stores. I could go on and on, but I won't. I just want to commend you for speaking up and doing something to take a stand for diversion and counterfeit. As a nail salon owner for 30 years, I've seen so much diversion going on. I reached out to Paul mitchell, Redken, Matrix & Sebastian lines, to report Poshmark allowing sellers to list Professional Only Beauty supplies on their site. I sent in a complaint email to Poshmark explaining the dangers of just anyone getting their hands on professional products that require education. Education that I paid for, and that we are required to have continued education to renew our license. And that's not free. Anyway, I just wanted to commend you for voice in this ongoing trend. Will you let me know you read this? TY

    I believe the easiest way to spot this with live shows is if they have several unused designer bags/wallets/electronics. Margins are super tight when you work as an authorized retailer of a brand which usually means you have to charge top dollar to make chunk change on the product. There is nothing that I have that I could even sell on poshmark due to the 20% cut they take on top of the expectation of it being cheaper. You should always use logic. Ask yourself how this person could get all these products and how are they making a profit? If they are all very old models that you can find cheap in outlet store they could be real but if these people are selling things that look new that we're released only within the last 5 years and have a lot of products, I would automatically start questioning if it is authentic.

    • @resellgenius
      @resellgenius  10 місяців тому

      Spot on!!!!!!! Yes! I’m shocked when people think they’re getting something that costs like $3,000 for $400 and they don’t automatically know that it’s fake. “If it’s too good to be true it probably is!”

    I've also bought a couple fakes in Poshmark, I was refunded .
    Whatnot had been doing the same thing. Vanessa from Vad is Rad has been trying to report them and whatnot doesn't care. wonder if Poshmark is also looking the other way. Shit, even the big thrift knowingly sell fakes, I Try to point it out to them, and without outright admitting they know, they'll answer "that's why it's $40, and not $400"
    Great video, Amber,

    • @resellgenius
      @resellgenius  8 місяців тому

      What is Vad is Rad? Yeah, I try to spend time reporting listings and shows with fakes as much as I can, but it’s like whack-a-mole and I don’t see the hosts getting banned. I’ve even written emails to Posh. It is so annoying but at least they will cover the buyer when it’s a fake. During Poshfest they were talking all about shows and how many millions of dollars were made during shows and at no point did they acknowledge or broach the issue at all. So sad, but I’m hoping that if more people report the bad apples hosting shows, that Poshmark will eventually do something. Or they’ll have one of the brands force their hand via a lawsuit. I did hear during Poshfest that they were all popping into random parties, (like all Posh staff) but still there is too many for even all the Poshmark employees to catch. Now if the 60 million users would report we’d definitely make traction!! Thanks for watching my video! What do you think about Whatnot and the ability to make sales vs Poshmark Shows?

    How can people get away with selling fakes if Poshmark offers Free Authentication on all items over $500?

    • @resellgenius
      @resellgenius  10 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the comment and for watching. So… That’s the million dollar question! I’m sure there are other answers but here are a few things that I have seen…
      - They’ll sell it just under $500. If you see a LV, Gucci, Chanel, Fendi, Balenciaga, Prada etc for $450 or $475 then 99% of the time it’s fake. But that’s not all. Many I see selling for way over $500.
      - They’ll sell it on a Posh Show and the listing doesn’t include the brand on it, or even a photo most of the time. They’ll say “posh show” “mystery bag” or something else.
      - The brand is very important because many authenticity programs have certain rules for certain brands, categories and price points.
      - Posh Ambassador II’s (maybe PA1’s too - I’m not sure because I’m a two) can self-authenticate. The first time it happened to me was almost two years ago and I noticed b/c I printed the shipping label and it was being sent straight to the customer instead of the Posh Facility. I even messaged Posh and was like “did you stop the authentication program?” No, they said their policy for authentication says it will be authenticated by Posh OR its trusted 3rd party suppliers. Guess who that is? The seller! They will randomly send some for actual authentication though and you have to have a spotless record of no fakes (at least I assume you have to because I have a spotless record).
      - Posh protects the buyer if the item is “not as described” but on the shows many sellers don’t even put a photo of the item so there is nothing to compare it to.
      -I’ve also heard on several shows, sellers saying “if it doesn’t work out for you don’t file a claim, just re-posh it” so they are basically telling buyers not to file a claim before they even buy the item!
      - Some fakes are 10A / AAA and they look very close to the original- but they’re still fake. It takes a great deal of experience and expertise (and/or technology) to authenticate a luxury item properly and fake items (unfortunately slip through even the best platforms).
      - Some sellers are clearly brand new accounts with the same pictures and they’ll sell as much as they can, hope the fakes pass authentication, and then just use a new account if they get caught. These accounts usually have a weird gibberish user name with lots of numbers or letters. They used to not have profile pics, but nowadays most of them do have a profile picture but it’s just stolen or a stock photo.
      - some sellers are passing off fake items as “Vintage”. In many cases the vintage bags didn’t have the same date codes, serial numbers etc or they’ve “worn off” or sometimes they didn’t even have them.
      I always report sellers and items that are without a doubt fake. Posh really relies on other sellers or buyers to flag the items or sellers but I find that this is just not working as good as it used to. Posh Shows are also a huge driver of this problem IMO, I’ve seen it get 10 times worse ever since they started.
