    This video explains a lot about top motorcycle racing. The combination of the skill to ride at the limits plus memorize such a long and complex course is of course very rare. That is why, to me, the Isle of Man was taken off the GP circuit but remains as an incredibly difficult race to win. The very talented riders of GP could not deal with such a long and complex course. This is not to denigrate them, but only to say that this is a very different world.
    Let's keep this tradition going. There is nothing else like it in the world.

      Your comparison is nonsensical. The only thing that sets Isle of Man TT apart is that it is deadly. And it has nothing to do with speed, but with how unforgiving the "track" is in terms of terrain, mainly because it is not a track at all. You can fall off a bike going at 20mph, hit your head into one of those stone street walls and die instantly, while in motogp you can fall at 180mph, and slide on your back into an evenly layered grass, stand up and walk away. Professional racing tracks are no less complex and require no less intelligence. On the contrary, those things aside they are also extremely physically demanding, requiring maximum attention as the race is twice as long than Islw of Man (40miles vs 80)

      Absolutely would have to ride the course many times to remember every key moment to choose the apex and the max speed. I've been on 2 wheels since 8. I'm 51 and ride FZ6R + FZ09.
      Well if your familiar the 900 3cylinder has tremendous torque and I ride a little sporty but Damn - you need good vision and such control and and calm courage to even think of that consistentl pace. True champions of 2 wheels at the TT brother

      +Rob Mitchell that really depends if your audience are bikers, or at least gear-heads vs regular public. if you have half an ear you can listen to downshifts, before a lean-in or before the little head jerk of the rear wheel pulling back ... but for a regular guy after a few minutes its probably angry buzzing ... to each their own, it is better to have both bike movies for the regular audience, and track films for fans like us. everyone happy.

It shows that other than being a master of the bike, he has also memorized the course and knows exactly where to accelerate, brake, etc. How many people could memorize a 37+ mile course. This is way beyond the MotoGP where you could easily memorize a 12 turn course. This is his genius.

      Leave us not forget that from roughly 1907 thru 1976. The road race the Isle of Manx Tourist Trophy was included in Moto GP. ------- " The 1976 Isle of Man TT was the fifth round of the 1976 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place between 7 June and 12 June 1976 at the Snaefell Mountain Course. 1976 marked the end of an era as it would be the last time the Isle of Man TT would appear on the Grand Prix calendar.[1] Once the most prestigious race of the year, the event had been increasingly boycotted by the top riders, and finally succumbed to pressure for increased safety in racing events.[1] The Grand Prix was moved to England in 1977 with the British Grand Prix being held at the Silverstone Circuit. I'm afraid not there is next to no prize money, and they are mostly small private teams, some of the top riders might get paid, but nothing like a football player. they do it for the love of the sport!!!

    • @mickeypopa
      @mickeypopa 8 років тому +21

      And professional video game players get anywhere from $100000 (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive) to $1.8 million (Dota 2) for winning biggest tournament of the year (that's per player, 5 players in a team), plus a lot of money for other tournaments throughout the year. The total prize pool for 2016 International (biggest Dota 2 tournament of the year) was over $20 million!
      It's like "Unknown Name" said, it's all about the fans and how much the sport is supported financially. Small fan base - small prize pools. IOM TT is something only a true motorbike fan loves and they are a very small minority compared to general population, as I'm sure you'll agree.
      Yes, it makes no sense compared to how much these guys risk but that's the world we live in, it's all about the supply vs demand.

    • @mickeypopa
      @mickeypopa 8 років тому +16

      Also, IOM TT is something very extreme on the sports spectrum. That means very small number of people can really connect to it and an even smaller number can actually ride it. And in order to have a large fan base and be popular, you need to be widely accessible. Not to mention the fact that, if you're not British, chances are you probably haven't even heard of TT or had the chance or money to ever go to one of the events.
      People are more likely to connect to something they can enjoy themselves, personally. Every other sport - football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, etc. that's something all of us can play and enjoy and acquire greater appreciation for what professional players can do. And therein lies the catch - how many people do you know that ride a motorbike? Very small number compared to those driving a car, right? And how many of those like to ride fast, how many like extreme speeds? Even smaller number, I'd guess. So it all comes down to that - numbers.
      All that makes IOM TT a very niche event, something for the aficionados. And when the bikers are already in the minority, it makes it even more special and in turn, less likely to be getting a lot of attention and be viable from financial standpoint if you're a potential sponsor and looking to invest money.

    Amazing riding skills , you can see the bike trying get away from him a few times , and is that wheel slip you hear when the revs suddenly rise very quickly , it must be like driving in a tunnel at those speeds much respect.

    • @thesled
      @thesled 2 роки тому +1

      It’s not wheel slip you hear. The tyre has a smaller circumference on the edge to what it has in the middle. As the bike leans over the bike is travelling at the same speed but the wheel is having to turn faster to match the forward momentum so the revs will rise but the speed remains the same.
