The people like myself who try to replicate your work for our own collections have lots and lots of respect for your ability. You make it look easy, but in fact it's a lot of work, and then to make it look presentable. Nothing that would ever be mistaken for something you made, but presentable it takes weeks. A master is someone who already has everything I don't know figured out. That's where it's going to be fun if I get there, because then its a matter of expression, and that's what it's all about!
i worked in machine shops for about ten years. what you do is awesome. tempering, grinding. shaping. and hammering are none of them simple tasks and very time consuming. what you do is done at the highest level. if i had the money i would love to have the smallest thing you make. very much respect to you sir. you are a master of your craft! ! !
This is an amazing sword but technically speaking this is not a bastard sword, this is a longsword. Theres really only three types of swords: the short sword, the longsword, and the greatsword. The short sword is obviously much shorter and usually a tad thicker and is meant to be used with only one hand, which is why the grip is so small. The longsword, the one in the video is a blade with a longer reach and is meant to be used with two hands for powerful strikes. You can tell not only by blade length but by grip as well, if there's a gap between your hands when you grip it's most likely a longsword. The greatsword is a huge blade, you really never see it in actual combat, the grip is collosal to suit the blade. But there's actually a fourth type of blade, the bastard sword. But it's actual name is called the hand and a half sword. A bastard sword is a cross between a short sword and longsword. It allows the weapon to be wielded with one hand and two hands depending on the type of combat situation. The blade was usually slightly shorter than the longsword while maintaining the more common thicker to slimmer blade taper (when the blade starts wide at the bottom and slowly shrinks to the top opposed to a more direct and straight line like the blade in the video) however there's really no "better" version of the blade and is ultimately up to preference and what feels more natural. You can tell when a sword is a bastard sword when you try to grip the blade with two hands and your grip extends onto the pommel. It makes it great because if a grip is too long it sabotages the wrists movement when using one hand. But the bastard sword is short enough to not impede single grip combat, allowing for a shield but to also allow two hands in order to deliver more powerful strokes.
This is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. I don't usually watch youtube videos that are this long, but I was mesmerized for the whole thing. So cool!
Your swords look quality made and attention to detail is impressive,, the swords look as if they can withstand the rigors of hard battle and maintain there integrity. Really nice to view process.
today I first time found your channel, and I must say You are an amazing guy with fantastic skills, passion and soul !!! Big words of appreciation, respect and admiration. I wish You all the best, good luck and great thanks for everythings from Poland !!! See You one day, one time, one pleace, somewhere out there........
Did anyone else have to google 'Bastard Sword'? These videos are not only mesmerising and instructional with Freerk's skill level, they also prompt you to educate yourself about historical weapons.
My first time watching you craft... impressive. I like the fuller die that you’ve made to simplify the job. I was wondering at first why you were making ladder cuts at first... I wasnt until I seen you also drilling and scribing further to realize how you were easing the stress of stretching and shaping.
When I was a child of around 6, I had a unique experience with swords, LOTS of them! By way of having an unintended gasoline vision, I had it happen whereby the millions of grass blades in the backyard had all turned into human beings and they were all dressed in medieval war garb which included silver/gray pointed helmets and mail armor and SWORDS! They were all crowded together shoulder to shoulder screaming at each other and hitting each other with their swords! It was only for a brief moment or two that I witnessed this scene and it was in bright colors and minute details. And it was something that rattled me pretty good. Sometimes, because of the experience, I consider getting a quality Sword............
That trip hammer in its first aplications was a modern marvel but now it's used mainly for repairing things when no part is available, using it to forge this item is like being a blacksmith from the 1600's what's discovered a way to get the same results with no skill or effort.
I just wonder if he can forge such a blade using old crafts and technology? Without all those pneumatic hammers and gadgets! Otherwise, congratulations on the excellent work and the many knowledge and skills he puts into his work. A heart is needed!
Does anyone know the purpose of scoring the metal with those X marks before the heating? Also whatever was the purpose of using the drill to make those many dents in the blade?
It's like watching creation itself, but instead of the splendor of a universe populated thus far mainly with anxiety driven monkeys, we get a wonderous sword worthy of warriors of legend.

Spring steel, from mild steel, and artistry to boot. You, sir, are a craftsman. And the scabbard, too! Great video.
Do you by chance know the material he used in this video? Is it, as you said, spring steel?

Omg this is the most beautiful sword I’ve ever seen I want it so bad
No over editions, no jokes! Just work and art!
What do you have against jokes?
Does anyone know the purpose of scoring the metal with those X marks before the heating? Also whatever was the purpose of using the drill to make those many dents in the blade?
It allows the layers of different type steel to work thru to the surface so that after etching in acid the contrasting pattern is seen.
@@grantcox4764 Thank you very much!! That's very cool to know.
That long forge that was like backfiring looks dangerous as hell! 😁 Awesome sword!
i've seen this video something like 7 times...and finally I decided to put a like on it...what a bad person I am
