If you find you can’t remove the key from the ignition after this repair you will need to take the black plastic piece out and widen the bottom and top holes where the metal shaft slides under to make sure that the shaft has enough clearance to release the key. I removed the shaft and used a small drill bit to widen the plastic and then tapped it on and left it there for about 20 minutes. I removed the shaft and reassembled everything and was able to remove the key after shifting into park. You can use the old plastic cylinder to see how much wider you need to make the holes so that the shaft seats closer to the top of that black plastic piece.
I had the exact opposite problem as you so far no help 😢 my replacement piece is slightly larger so from reverse to 4-1 gear It just needs to be pulled or pushed a little to shift no pushing down on button needed
I got the whole thing, handle and all for $25. It's a piss poor design; like you, I replace it twice. 97" Accord. The whole thing needs plenty of grease to operate smoothly.

This was a huge help! The knob on my shifter crumbled and had to take off the handle like he did in the video just to drive it home.

If your button breaks, unless you take the handle off like I show at 01:02 you will not be able to shift gears..

It broke yet again!!!! 😡 I'm now going to try to replace it with the 98-02 knob, with the handle. I just hope the whole thing will fit. 🤞
