    Bought at 30yrso + 99 = 120
    One already dead gone. 75yrs enough for 1 life already.
    Units need to vacate and make available to the younger gen.

    Very small factual error (though your point is still valid): The nearest MRT to 16 Taman Ho Swee is not Jalan Besar MRT / Lavender MRT but Havelock MRT. Paisay hor, occupational hazard. BTW, r u hiring copy editor for your scripts? I can give special "idol" price. I'm a fan.

    When you build a bungalow in Malaysia, after a century you also have to tear it down due to safety reasons. You want to stay in a building that may collapse on you?

      Furthermore, if you think Malaysia land is a good investment, you can buy their land while you reside in Singapore. Would you invest in Malaysian land???

      1. The value of the demolished building drops to 0 too.
      2. You have to pay a high amount of money to get people to demolish the building.
      3. During the months of rebuilding, you would not be able to stay in your house.

    Singaporeans all want long lease..actually,,when they buy at age 30 or 40, whether Pty price go south or north, all die in 3-4 decades time..in short is 30-40 Xmas..so why bother? So long leverage on banks..use not own $$ u don’t feel painful

    Owners cannot do lease top up my friend. Unless they are approved developers. If owner can top up their lease. All the 99years landed that turn zero soon will have done it.

      Actually you forgot the HDB pre-war units in Tiong Bahru got free 35-year lease top up in 2005, I think.

    It is 99 year *LEASE.*
    Till today, people are buying such *LEASE* with the mistaken believe that they are buying the property.
    The fault lies with the marketing.
    They way they talk, make people think they are buying the property, not the lease.
    They just mention 99 year lease may be once or twice, and that's all.
    They mostly talk about value, other people buying, price can go up, good location, good prospect, etc.
    The remaining *lease* can be sold, to someone who is interested to take over, at an agreeable price to both parties.
    Its a lease!

    If after buying and living in HDB BTO/resale for even 15 years and never sell, or renovate, or rent out rooms, or upgrade to private, or upgrade to better location HDB resale, or upgrade own work skills to earn higher salary. And keep kpkb and blame govt, the problem is NOT the HDB 99-year lease policy. The problem is your own mindset and attitude, hor.

    Young couples cannot afford living in Singapore. Better to immigrate to other countries where one can afford big car and house. Furthermore, the house and land is yours and no such thing as leasehold which is ridiculous.
    Young couples needing to wait for about 5 years for BTO is not acceptable. The waiting time should be about 1, 2 years. The government wants more babies and yet the waiting time is so long and expensive. Pretty hypocrite.

    You buy a HDB flat with a 99 years lease obviously the lease will expire in 99 years. This applies to all properties with a given lease. What is the complaint all about? You go in with your eyes wide open. Just because because you buy a HDB flat you are entitle to ask the government to extend the lease whenever the lease is going to expire. What kind to logic is that? Be sensible and reasonable. Stop talking for the sake of talking.

    As 80% of Singaporeans own hdb flat. Current ruling party PAP would not Risk the political risk to allow hdb lease yr runs to zero.
    The first mission of HDB mandate given by our MM LKY was 居者有其屋. So it is common sense for the ruling party to know that not manage the lease yr properly would against HDB primary mandate, as well as political risk should the said lease yrs run to zero.
